Walk into the store and try to place that wonderful aroma. You can't -- it's a mix of dozens of spices, all in open buckets. Buy a half an ounce of turmeric, a pound of white cornmeal, Greek tea and the honey to go with it, feta from various countries, fresh homemade yogurt, sour cherry preserves, dried fruit, pickled mushrooms, etc. And if they've got any roasted, stuffed tomatoes left, be sure and get one. Bulk foods are measured out and packaged in little paper bags. Sure, you have to find a better container to keep them fresh at home. But you'll never buy those stale, overpriced supermarket spices again.
