Great food, fun drinks, new owners 4/20/2010

I went here with my gf and our friend from NY and had no idea what I was getting into. My gf had worked here a few years before, but it sounded like they had new ownership. We ordered a lot of different apps, the house special noodles, a lamb curry, and the drinks with coconut, avocado, and jackfruit. Everything was really good...and worth the price. Pros: avocado drinks! killer curry Cons: n/a more

I have had better from a vending machine 9/24/2008

I have eaten many hundreds of Indonesian meals of all sorts, coast to coast and in Europe (especially in the Netherlands when I lived there for several years), and this is rock bottom. I have 20 course rijstafel, simple meals and everything in between, eaten in many homes, top restaurants, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and, yes, even vending machines, and search out Indonesian restaurants everywhere I travel. I salivate just thinking about good Indonesian food, and I cannot overstate my disappointment at this place. I even tried it again a year after the first time, as with the passage of time, I convinced myself that it really could not have been that bad. So we went again, and it really was that bad. The meat was tough, the sauces were either badly flavored or even burned. Nothing seemed fresh, and I was not confident in the cleanliness or the food safety. more

Truly excellent Indonesian cuisine. 8/9/2007

My husband and I have been to Indonesia Restaurant twice in the last 2 weeks and we love it! The first time was for lunch, where I had Nasi Goreng Special and he had a mixed dish of coconut rice, tofu, beef and chicken. (I can't recall the exact name.) The food was delicious and the service was very nice. Pros: Great food, good service. Clean. Cons: Hard to park, although there are parking garages in the neighborhood. I recommend reservations, since the restaurant is quite small. more

The worst Indonesian Restaurant I've ever had 4/18/2007

I ate there with my friends two weeks ago and I was very dissapointed with all I got. The service is terrible and slow, and the food quality is far below from the other Indonesian restaurant just one block away from them. It's not worth to spend your money eating there. I would not be there twice for my whole life... Cons: service, food, ambiance more

Authentic and tastes great! 1/8/2007

Came with friends last week who have lived in Indonesia for the last 3.5 years. They said food authentic and very tasty, even if a bit different in flavor (different selection of ingredients in U.S.?). I've come here for years but wasn't aware there had been a change in ownership until we arrived. New owner (2-3 months) has updated interior and remodeled so it's much nicer. I found the food tasted even better! The bbq chicken is great and so are the rice noodle dishes. Their fried rice is fantastic as is the chicken soup. The only disappointment for me was the fried bananas, though the accompanying mango ice cream was good. If you have a party of 8 to 12, see if you can reserve the upstairs dining area. There's a sofa there along the seating for 12 (14?) max, so it makes for a nice semi-private dinner party. Pros: Authentic and tasty food at good prices Cons: Small restaurant can get crowded quickly on weekends. more

Best Indonesian Food! 12/12/2006

I recently tried Indonesian food for the first time and it was slamin. The beef and rice is soooooo good. If you're feeling adventurist I would recomened trying something good and new. Pros: Good Food more

If you're looking for good Indonesian food stay away from here! 10/11/2006

This restaurant is one of the worst examples of Indonesian food I have ever tasted. Not only was the service terrible, but it took about an hour for my food to come out and it was a bit cold and tasted like cardboard. If you want your money's worth I suggest you stay away and eat somewhere else. Pros: couldn't find any Cons: everything more

Great Indonesian food! 6/25/2006

Very good, and great prices! This is a local restaurant that has been in the bay area for the longest time, definitely great food. If you haven't tried it, its a must! more

The only Indonesian restaurant I like 11/29/2005

I was introduced to this by an Indonesian friend and I have also tried another one just across from it and the food here is so much better. Try ordering number 28 and 82 and it is so different from any other asian restaurant. Food are delicious but the place is so small so dont expect romantic athmosphere and go there for the food. Pros: unique dishes, value, delicious food Cons: small place, service slow more

Great Indonesian Food 10/6/2005

I am an Indonesian, andalways looking for good Indonesian restaurants. This restaurant has great selection of food although not all of them are great. Their Mpek Mpek, Gado Gado and Siomay bandung are excellent but their lumpia is way below average. Their beef dishes such as beef rendang and empal are excellent. Their fried chicken and chicken Kalasan are below average. They have great dessert menus and most of them are great. The atmosphere is really relaxing and the service is family oriented. Overall I would recommend this place. Pros: Value, Menu Selection, Ambiance Cons: Parking more

Good Indonesian food 10/25/2004

I went with an Indonesian friend based upon his recommendation. The food is pretty good. Especially recommended is the $7.95 lunch special, 11:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Mon. through Friday, where you get two selections plus gado-gado in a bento box plus rice. Try the empal balado (beef) and ayam kalasan (Java BBQ chicken), both of which were very good! more

Good food, Good service 9/22/2004

This is the best place to experience sundanese and javanese food. My husband and I are so thrilled finding this restaurant. We tried so many different things and all of them are good. We will be happy to come back and recommend this restaurant to everyone who will die for a real Indonesian food. Pros: good food , good service, vallet parking more

Ok but too slow 12/30/2002

I am from Indonesia, so i know indonesian food well. The food in this restaurant is a OK, but the service is not too well. The waitres are not friendlyand The order took too long. The place is not comfortable and enjoyable because the lights are too dark and the place looks dirty. more

Nothing fancy but surely Indonesian 8/4/2002

Just got back from Indonesia and I think this restaurant does serve pretty good Indonesian food. Yes, there is a better restaurant, Java Restaurant on Geary, but Indonesia Restaurant is a bit more low profile, centrally located and moderately priced. more
