Love this place - our favorite Indian take out place in SOMA!

Food was ok, not great. It took over an hour to receive the food. When I called after 30 minutes, all they said was that it was out for delivery. Poor customer service.

Editorial review from GrubHub 11/12/2013

Food was three hours late. GrubHub was, of course, apologetic -- the restaurant was not. I don't really know that anything else needs to be said. more

Amazing Food, Notorious Service 4/1/2007

There's a difference you'll get when reading this review versus most of the rest: you can trust this one. A review is nothing without experience or objectivity. I'm know my Indian. I've been addicted to it for nearly a decade (I'm 27). I only feel the need to establish this because I'm shocked by the accuracy of the other written reviews. Pros: Gourmet Indian Food, Moderately Big Menu, Spicy Beyond Belief, Easy Parking Cons: Bad Delivery, Spotty Service, Get Rid of the Paper Cartons! more

great experience with delivery food 8/7/2006

Just ordered the chana masala and chicken tikka masala last night. more

Worst Delivery Service and attitude 8/5/2006

My order came later than the 1 hour window that they asked for. then the food had soaked through the chinese food cartons, wrapped in cling wrap. i called them immediately for a refund, but they insisted on sending replacments, promising its arrival in 15 minutes. I called when it was late (again) and asked for a refund which they were not accepting as a reasonable solution. The food actually came 40 minutes later. They really have no concern for making their customers even remotely satisfied. I will never order from them again. period. They blew it. After all of that, the worstpart was that the food was really ordinary. Pros: they serve indian food Cons: Long, terrible delivery service. poor packaging, poorer attitude. mediocre food more

Bad delivery service 7/18/2006

Make sure you have plenty of paper towels when you order delivery from this place. At first we like this restaurant because they make a great aloo muttar and a so so chicken tikka marsala (only small chunks of chicken, mostly sauce) but for the past three times we order for delivery, our orders came in a drippy curried soaked chinese take out boxes and food was cold! Obviously the delivery guy took the long scenic route before getting to our place (we are only about 10 blocks away...) but the worst part is that he ignores the direction to get into the building so my husband has to go down to get the food!!! If you want delivery then go somewhere else!!! Pros: large menu and they deliver Cons: long time to deliver, horrible containers and rude delivery guy more

Good atmostphere, Average Food 7/13/2006

This was my first time to this place. The service was average. they do have a huge menu. There were alot of selections. Good atmosphere. We ordered about 5 dishes. The mushroom rice, naan and the veggie dish were good. The curry chicken had little taste to it. The Chicken Kabab was very dry. I would probably wait a while before i will try this place again. Pros: Ambience Cons: average food more

Horrible! 7/12/2006

I was very excited to try India Garden. Unfortunately, I was highly disappointed. The food arrived in a chinese carton wrapped in saran wrap as the saltier than salty channa masala was in an almost soup like consistency. They gave a lot of rice, which was laden with butter and made me sick. At least the naan was hot and good! Pros: Good naan, delivery, a lot of food Cons: SALTY and BUTTERY!!!! more

Crap 10/22/2005

Took a year out before reordering from this place after a few bad experiences a while back. Tried them again a few days ago with similar experience. Food took ages to arrive - had to call in twice. The person taking orders took down my wrong phone number and ignored the apartment number - meaning the delivery person couldn't contact me. Food was cold (freezing) when it arrived and most dishes looked and tasted like they were left overs from yesterday - certainly not fresh. Won't be ordering again.. more

Worst Dining Experience EVER 9/24/2005

After 12 years in San Francisco - This is the worst service we have ever encountered. We waited 40 minutes for our food while all of the other people that arrived after us proceeded to eat and pay for their food. After we finally asked where our meals were the waiter pretended it was on its way and asked us to repeat our order (he actually forgot to put our order in). No appologies or discounts. The food was mediocre and not worth the price (there are several other great Indian restaurants in the city). My water glass was empty, we were ignored, and it took even longer to get the check. We would NEVER recommend this restaurant to anyone! more

Best Indian Food in America 9/15/2005

OK, hyperbole in the title notwithstanding, I'm from the UK---second home of fantastic curries (first home being India, of course). Good Indian food is difficult to get our here in the States. I lived in Denver for three years, where the India House did a pretty great job of good breads and wonderful flavored dishes, but apart from that it's all been pretty much a muchness. Now I live in SF, though: this place just like home. Lush, rich, spicy, dangerous... delicious. Highly recommended. more

Great Veg dishes.... 1/14/2005

We discovered this place a couple of years back when I needed to forgo all meat and dairy foods. Yes, they do have meat and dairy items on their menu, but, if you're familiar with Indian cooking then you know that there is a plethora of dishes you can indulge in that are strictly vegetarian...and this is the place. Fantastically seasoned dishes, breads, and desserts make this a must stop when you're SOMA in S.F. The interior murals area really a blast to view, and the patio dining is a plus as well. Parking has never been a hassle here either. There is a lunchtime buffet that is offered M-F that will give you a better idea of the dishes they offer. Enjoy! Pros: Great buffet, huge menu selection, nice atmosphere Cons: , a tad pricey more

Great Delivery Service! 6/13/2004

Not only was the delivery service fast, but the food was fresh, authentic, and delicious. It's not the cheapest, but worth every penny and more. I would highly recommend this restaurant for take out. Pros: fast service, delicious, authentic more

Best of SF 9/27/2003

Please, if you've had better nan than that which is made here, let me know where to get it! This is the best, chicken masala, lamb curry, nan, and sweet lassi I've been able to find outside of New york. more

Plesant Fare 4/28/2003

I've been here a few times and the food has always been good. With such a huge menu, you're bound to find something you like. It's small, yet warm and relaxing. Also quiet--good for couples. Not the most outstanding Indian food, but if you're in SOMA, it's tasty pre-club dining. Pros: atmosphere, quiet Cons: beer & wine only more

fastest 12/1/2002

Best Indian!! 6/28/2002

This is the palce for Indian food. Great waiters and friendly bordering romantic interior. Order the Chicken Korma for sure with an order of Naan Bread. You will not be sorry. Ask your waiter to suggest the dessert, it is always more fun!! more
