Awesome haircut, great price 12/4/2009

Just got a haircut from Jaleh at In Vogue. I have hair that is both curly and straight, and I have had so many bad cuts, but Jaleh was great! Go see her! Pros: Great Haircut, no wait, affordable more

Go see Melissa! I found a stylist I can trust! 9/22/2009

I have been looking for a stylist for the past 10 years, and I called Dosha to book color, highlights and a haircut. I was sent to Salon In Vogue. The atmosphere was very welcoming. They offer fantastic tea, followed by a scalp massage and a thorough consultation. Melissa Stoner was my stylist and I couldn't be happier. My hair turned out fantastic! I believe I found a stylist for life! I highly recommend her and the salon. Pros: Very intimate and welcoming Cons: Outside of the salon needs a makeover more

Fantastic Haircut! 3/28/2009

I had the pleasure to meet a junior stylist by the name of Amber who did a fabulous job on my hair. Before I went in, my hair was way past do for a new style, it was just blah! I told Amber I wanted layers and cute, and that's exactly what she did!! I have a wonderful new style to me thanks to Amber - I will definitely be going back and will refer any of my friends/family! Pros: Affordable Cons: None more

Affordable / Emily is GREAT! 12/18/2008

I highly recommend SIV! Also, just to clarify on some of the other reviews, SIV is no longer a "learning" salon; this changed a couple of years ago, so the stylists who work here are experienced. Emily C. has been my stylist for over a year, and I have been more impressed by her than any stylist I have ever had anywhere (and I have searched high and low for the right person!) She listens to requests, but is also knowledgeable enough about styles and applying them to different skin tones and facial structures to be able to make recommendations. The hair color she has applied on my hair has received more compliments than ever before! Additionally, she doesn't push Aveda product, but if asked, is extremely knowledgable about it and can make great recommendations. However, even more than her expertise with hair, I appreciate that she is genuine and completely unpretentious, which is rare at most of the Dosha salons! I will be a loyal customer as long as she does hair! Additionally, I have never had a problem finding street parking around SIV; they are more affordable than any of the other Dosha salons; the front desk staff is always friendly and knowledgeable (again, rare at other Dosha salons.) I would highly recommend SIV, and especially Emily C. for hair. more

I Paid for Torture 8/12/2008

I am a regular Dosha VIP and needed a brow wax. I usually visit Dosha NW but as Dosha in Vogue is very close to my work, I decided to try them out. I was immediately put off by the buildings exterior yet was relieved by the wonderful surroundings inside. The staff was very friendly and quickly ushered me into a lovely waiting area. The wax technician was very polite yet didn't say much. I told her I wanted a natural look and just needed the edges cleaned up. She said she understood and began. She must have used a different kind of wax because she ripped off some skin on one spot. After she finished, I was greeted by brows that she had shaped to a point (not natural looking at all) and to different lengths. When I asked her why one side was longer than the other, she said she thought one side was just longer normally. I know my face and one is NOT longer than the other. She said she could "fix it" by waxing even more off. "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!" VIP I do not feel by any stretch of the imagination. And for those of you who may not know, this is no longer a training site as citysearch states; it is a regular Dosha salon. I expect Dosha quality and did not get it. This could be an isolated event; nonetheless, I will never return to this location, no matter how convenient. I expect quality and excellence from Dosha and was horribly let down here. I can't believe I paid to have my face tortured so drastically. If you haven't figured it out by now, I DO NOT RECOMMEND this location. I will give Dosha a second chance though as this is my first negative experience. Pros: Convenient location Cons: Disfigurement, parking more

Worst haircut ever 1/25/2008

Not all of the stylists charge the same rate. I paid $30 for a 2 minute bad haircut. When I asked the stylist to check one side that was longer, I got an attitude. I will have to go somewhere else to get this mess fixed. I will never go back. If I am going to pay $30 for a haircut it will be in a salon that at least looks nice and a stylist that cares about her work. more

Great haircut, great color, great service 7/5/2007

I loved my experience at Salon in Vogue...the receptionists were very professional and polite. Offiered me water or tea. My stylist Megan G. was AWESOME! Very sweet. Very friendly. Knew exactly what she was doing. I got highlights and a cut and it turned out perfect. No flaws. I am actually going back tonight for a touch up! I would highly reccomend this salon! Pros: Friendly, professional, service was excellent and cut/color was good. more

Best Facial treatment 9/6/2006

I went yesterday for a hair cut and color and decided to get a Facial treatment also. WOW it was so amazing, Relaxing. I recommend it to EVERYONE. The GENTLEMAN that does my hair does a wonderful job too. Thanks so much for the great experience. Pros: Relaxing, Tons of time spent, Relaxing Cons: none more

sorry for the inconvenience... 5/15/2006

I went here because I just needed a trim. My regular stylist is a bit pricey and I'm short on money at the moment. I found the people at the front desk to be quite friendly. My stylist, however, acted as though I was a huge nuisnace for wanting to get a haircut! She did the absolute minimum possible. I kept having to suggest how to she might improve the cut and eventually it seemed like a lost cause. The atmosphere was totally depressing. Not only my stylist but others I observed seemed to be extremely unhappy to be there. Next time I need a haircut but I'm low on cash, I'll just have a friend do it or even go to Great Clips instead. Pros: front desk Cons: apathetic stylist, environ.= depressing, dorky haircut more

Acceptable haircuts and prices 5/12/2006

I didn't get a $20 haircut, paid about the same as I pay at the place I go now, and had a disappointing experience. Everyone who spoke to me was just going through the motions, not bringing any genuineness to the experience. I suppose this might not bother some people but I couldn't relax and enjoy myself when I could see how fake the pleasantries were. The stylist was remote and did not put me at ease. Pros: aveda products Cons: aggressive sell, staff's demeanor more

An unexpected disappointment 5/2/2006

I was excited to try Salon in Vogue- I had heard great things from several different people and it's very inexpensive and it is right by my house. Unfortunately, the stylists must be hit or miss because the girl who cut my hair paid absolutely no attention to my comments and asked me very little about what I wanted. I have very fine, wavy hair, but I have a lot of it, so it can very quickly turn into a big mushroomy mess if the stylist doesn't know how to handle it. Well, I ended up with a big mushroomy head of hair with something like a duck tail in the back. Not what I was aiming for. It was only $20 but definitely not worth it because I had to go to another salon to get it fixed. Pros: cheap, aveda products Cons: no communication more

User review by alemapmatt 7/9/2005

I have been going to SIV for five years for hair cuts and have recommended many friends who have consistantly received great service. SIV has always provided consistant satisfaction and quality, but this salon is the starting point for the stylists entering the Dosha salons here in Portland and these stylists are LEARNING the Aveda way before moving over to one of the Dosha facilities. A waiver is signed when you arrive for your appointment acknowledging the stylists are new talent - this is why their prices are so affordable. Because cuts are cheap I can always afford to load up on some styling products or shampoos which I can't always do elswhere. Seeking a fresh cut for a affordable price then consider SIV. Pros: Affordable, Creative Stylists, Open Sunday's Cons: Stylists are New, Hair Services Only more

terrible haircut at Salon in Vogue 6/14/2005

I received the worst haircut of my life from this salon. The stylist was very abrupt and said nothing to me while she was cutting, until she tried to get me to buy products. My hair looked like Carol Brady's. It took a good six months to look somewhat presentable. My regular hair stylist (not at this salon) did what he could to fix it and was incredulous at how uneven, etc., the cut was. A horrifying, horrifying experience. Pros: hours Cons: rude, poor quality more

Pretty Good. 1/18/2005

I have a lot of hair - and I'm picky of how it's cut. I was a bit nervous, but thought I'd give it a try, as it is Dosha Salon. "Bita" cut my hair & did a great job. She gave me a scalp massage before my shampoo which was wonderful. Without telling her much of what I wanted, she layered my hair so that it looks great both strait or curly. I received a lot of compliments. A hand massage followed. This was all for $20! I didn't initially know what to think of my cut, as the layers were angled differently than I had in the past. I'm going back for my 5 week maintenance cut tomorrow though. Be brave, try it out. Ask for a stylist that's almost finished with their program there, and if your stylist doesn't act confident, ask for someone else. Pros: scalp massage, Very Inexpensive, Nice Staff Cons: , Training School, have to take a risk more

Great Styles at a Great Bargain 9/12/2004

I have been going to see the new stylists at this salon for several years. I have been very pleased with the hair cuts and colors that I have received. Now that they are offering lower priced massage services, I have gone for that too. The salon is homey and comfortable, and I always feel welcome. Keep up the good work Salon in Vogue. From a loyal and satisfied customer! Pros: Inexpensive, Friendly, Homey more

Lack of skill was made to be my fault 5/5/2004

I went for a wedding hair appt- the lady didn't even know how to do the simple design I had in mind (which she figured out after an hour of yanking my scalp sore). I had to come back the day of my wedding to see another stylist- I didn't even know if she could do it. It turned out okay, but definetely not worth it. As an added "bonus," they were going to refund my "practice appt" as a gift certificate there- as if I'd ever go back! Pros: good intentions, nice ambiance Cons: , stylist not trained, not too friendly more

Fabulous and Cheap!!! 6/19/2003

It's tough to find a good stylist for my naturally curly hair, especially one I wouldn't need to sell my firstborn child to afford - but at Salon In Vogue I feel like I've found a goldmine. I've gotten cuts from two people in the New Talent program (the first one finished the program and moved on to Dosha). For $15, I've gotten a scalp massage, shampoo, great haircut (that even grows out well!), and hand massage to end the appointment. The staff are great, the environment is cool, and although they are happy to sell their Aveda products, I've never felt the slightest bit pressured to buy. I have sent friends, and my husband, there, and everyone else has been as thrilled as I am. Pros: Be Pampered, Great Prices, Great Haircuts Cons: Street Parking more

Best haircut I've ever had! 6/10/2003

My girlfriend has been going to Salon in Vogue for awhile now and suggested I try them too. Being a guy, I tend not to go to the fru fru salon types of places... but I felt very comfortable there anyways. The atmosphere is relaxed but hip which suits me fine. The front desk staff have always been very friendly and attentive to me which I appreciate. (Perhaps the begrudging patrons that have complained about them should learn that kindness begets kindness, respect begets respect.) The #1 reason I return every month is the New Talent. I hesitate to share who I get my great haircuts from for fear that her schedule might fill up, but she deserves recognition for her talent. Thanks Kim G! Pros: hand/head massage, inexpensive, great haircuts Cons: can't think of any more

Really Good Value 5/19/2003

I have been going to New Talents lately because my hair is longer and just needs a trim. I always get good service there. Hand Massage, Scalp massage, cup of tea etc. I think this is a great value for a great amount of service. Pros: Service, New Talents, Massage Hand Head more
