Very Good Food 6/21/2010

I've lived on UWS for years and passed this place by, because of the frequent crowd of blue hairs there for the early bird special and the sad, uninviting interior. Now they have a new Chef and a better menu, so I gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised. The food is very good and the prices are decent. The wine list is pretty short, but acceptable. Our server was very nice and attentive. The tables are very close, so this isn't a place for any sort of conversation you wouldn't want everyone hearing. Pros: New Chef, great revamped menu! Cons: Same old dark, sad interior in dire need of a makeover! more

Quiet, romantic, great food! 3/18/2008

My fiancee and I have made this ""our restaurant"". We eat out a lot and always like to try new italian spots but at the end of the day we still prefer Il Violino to all others. What's not to love? The ambience is very romantic and relaxing, the prices are great, and the food is DELICIOUS. Try the gnocchi ala placido... it's perfection. Pros: Friendly waitstaff, never waited for a table, delicious food, ambience Cons: Absolutely none more

Great Italian 1/25/2008

Been eating here for the past 2 years. I live up in the low 80's and love walking down to grab a bite. The owner and staff are very friendly and the atmosphere they create is cool. The food is really good. I highly suggest trying them next time you crave Italian. Pros: Staff, location, food Cons: n/a more

Great streetside seating! 1/11/2007

Me and my wife like coming to this italian restaurant before or after a movie at Lincoln Sqaure Cinema. They serve good food at not too expensive prices. I always get the chicken parm which is really good! I would recommend this place for those looking for a quiet serene dining experience. Pros: Tables are a little too close, you can hear everyone's conversation in depth! more

dissapointment 4/2/2004

The seemingly large crowds, strategically seated in the window seats, drove me to try this restaurant. Upon arrival, the dissapointment began. I'd rather not have bread than to be given tasteless, starchy lumps of dough. My friend had the chicken parm; this was so tough and thin that I couldn't readily identify it as chicken. And I tried another chicken dish which was tasteless. Even without the vaste array of area options to eat, I still would never return here. Pros: window seats Cons: , food, food more

Food Friends and Fun... oh and Champ 1/1/2003

Great atmosphere and Unlimited Champane make Il Violino's champane brunch a bust or the morning after. The service is a little slow, but very friendly. I will keep going back, and definately recommend this afordable choice. Pros: Friendly Staff, Good food, Mix of people more

cozy and tasty 11/28/2002

Four of us had dinner the other night, and 3 of us were very very pleased. That leads me to recommend avoiding 1) the clams casino and 2) the veal parmigiana. The mozzarella carprese was perfect, and they let you put the oil & balsamic on yourself, which is great. The pasta dishes were well cooked and large, and the chicken with wine, garlic & shallots over fettucine was EXCELLENT. more

I eat here all the time. 9/9/2002

I always come here, at least once a week. The Gnocchi is the best in the city. Although the service needs some help, they aren't too quick. Pros: food, parking, ambiance Cons: service more

Probably the best Italian I've had in the city -- by far the best garlic bread in my life. Delicious meal, owner Peter greeted every table, I felt like I was at a small-town restaurant but I was really on the UWS! Portions are good-sized since you've filled up on the delicious bread!!! more
