I hesitate to even share my recommendation for il Cantinori because I'd prefer it remain unchanged and frequented only by those who've been loyal patrons for many years. This quiet, Greenwich Village establishment is a true neighborhood trattoria, warm and cozy, with discreet yet attentive waitstaff, and exquisite food. The chef has been there from its opening, more than a decade, I believe. Whether it's spinach dumplings, rack of lamb or a tried and true favorite pasta dish, il Cantinori never disappoints. I prefer front of house, a bit smaller seating area. You'll be impressed by the extra-abundant floral arrangement, which can be an eyecatching urn of forced apple blossums or a gorgeous variety of flowers and greenery. If you're looking for an experience, a place to create a memory with someone special to you, this eastside eatery fills the bill.
