A Great Place To Skate 1/31/2009

Our family has been skating at Iceland for about 20 years. We have been involved with many full theatrical productions at Iceland, and also recital-type shows. Sacramentans don't realize what a gem they have with Iceland - it's the perfect setting for family-type shows in an intimate atmosphere. It is also a great place to train - we have had, over the years, Olympic and National champions skate at Iceland (landing triple jumps!) who couldn't wait to come back because of the atmosphere and excellent ice quality. We also have Senior -level skaters training there for upcoming competitions, in addition to a fantastic hockey program. Check the website for upcoming shows. I admit that the rental skates are not so great, but this is not an unusual situation - we skate at several other rinks in Northern CA. and have found this to be the situation at every other rink also. At Iceland, I happen to know that there is someone working there who regularily sharpens the skate blades. If you seem to be sliding all over the place, try asking for a different pair of skates. If you are having trouble learning how to skate, they have group lessons on Saturday mornings - the only USFSA skating program in this area. You can usually ask one of the more experienced skaters (they are the ones in the middle of the ice, spinning and jumping)-almost always they will be happy to show you some basics! We're always willing to help people have more fun and become better skaters. more

Great blast-from-the-past neighborhood rink 1/7/2007

This place feels like an old-fashioned community rink, the archaic equipment and atmosphere add to the charm and don't hurt the fun at all. The rental skates are really too dull to be able to use, but if you get your own used pair on eBay you are going to have a great time! The prices are very inexpensive. What a fun little gem to find on Del Paso. more

Poor Ice for Competitive Skaters 4/12/2006

My sister-in-law is a competitive figure skater and was visiting this area and she needed to get in some training time on the ice. She ended up at this rink for some reason and it was horrible. The ice was not in good condition and the facility did not seem to be well maintained (it was also very dirty). I don’t recommend skating here if you are purchasing ice-time as a competitive skater. If you are going to chance going to a free skate here, be advised that this rink is in a bad part of town. more

Went Here 3/18/2006

When I was a little girl I knew nothing of the skill an ice skater could achieve. I tired it here for my first time. Fell a lot and tried real hard, finally, got the hang of it. This is a tradition in Del Paso Heights, a favorite past time for many Sacramentians. The shoes were okay. I could have had stronger ankle support. The best part was watching skaters who were so skilled at this practice that they glided like swans on water. more
