Don't Do It 8/13/2014

This place offers no refunds or exchanges. Each time I purchase plants from there, the plants die within a day or two. They have the most unhealthy plants on the market, that is why they are always on sale. I will pay more money at Home Depot and Lowe's for healthier plants and covered with a money back one year guarantee. You waste money buying from Houston Garden. more

Rip Off 5/13/2013

My son bought me 2 blackberry plants and 1 blueberry plant from Houston Garden Center on hwy 288 at the beltway for Mother 's Day. He knew I wanted these plants, but he did not know what they were suppose to look like. What he got were dead twigs with weeds growing in the pot. I asked him to return them just the next day and they would not give him a refund or even an exchange for another type of plant. What a Rip Off! Talk about taking advantage of people, plus he said these were the best they had at the time of purchase! He ended up spending more money and got me 3 beautiful plants from Lowe's. I will never shop Houston Garden Centers ever and will tell my friends not to either! more

houston garden center is terrible 9/3/2012

HGC is a terrible place to shop. They have the worst customer service ever! I've seen better service in the poorest countries in the world! They also have about 0 people who speak english. If you buy a plant and you're not satisfied w/ it, which I can almost garentee will happen, you can't return or exchange it! HGC stinks! more

save yourself some time don't go 5/7/2012

I have had bad customer service before but Houston Garden Center takes the cake. I don't care what location you go to, cutomer service is always bad. No one speaks english and if they do then they are still useless and don't help much. I will NEVER visit a Houston Garden location again more

I bought an umbrella and a base for it. The base is not strong enough to hold the umbrella so I bought another base at Home Depot. I went to Houston Garden to return the base and they refuse to accept the return. They said it is their policy not "no refund or exchange." I can see it may apply for plants but not for other things. So, if they sell you BAD product, you just have to live with it? BAD POLICY!! DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS PLACE. Go to Home Depot or LOWE'S where prices are cheaper and you can return things if needed. more

290 @ Telge Location - No English Speaking Service 4/24/2012

I went there to buy 100 x 2cf bags of mulch. My truck can only hold about 30 in one trip. I explain that I'd like to buy the mulch and make a few trips since I have no trailer and the lady working there, who didn't speak much English, said; "No." So I asked if I could see how many would fit in the truck and buy them on each trip and she again said; "No." So I said; "OK, what if I buy too many bags and they don't all fit in the truck?" To this she just shrugged her shoulders and said; "maybe no." Then she called someone on the phone and they chatted in Spanish. Then she looked at me and said; "No." I'm still not even sure she understood a word I said, and she acted as if I was interrupting something more important. I took a handful of gardening tools (worth about $100) back to the rack and replaced them and walked out feeling like I was in the Twilight Zone. I got home and looked up the website for Houston Garden Center to try and reach someone to let them know they are losing business at this location. There's no email address or phone number to call. I guess they don't care about the business. Me either, I won't go back. I'll head over to Lowes and see how that goes. more

sshould have read reviews first... 3/8/2012

I recently got a job a Houston Garden Center in Atascocita. I wish I had read the reviews first. The working conditions were horrible. The managers speak very little English, if any at all. How are you suppose to learn your job if you can't understand who is teaching it. Then they stand around starring at you laughing & speaking Spanish all the time. They work you from 7:30in the morning to 7:30 at night with only a 30 minute lunch. On the weekends yo u half to park 1/4 of a mile away & walk down fm1960(a very busy road with no sidewalks)because they won't let employees park in parking lot. Then where the registers are, there are holes in the asphalt. So if your not very careful you'll sprain your ankle! So when the cashier looks miserable, you know why. It's not just the customers that are mistreated. more

Terrible. Will never shop there again. Sorry for every dime I've ever spent there. 3/6/2012

I visited the HGC on I-45 in Spring, just south of Rayford, and had an issue that needed the "Supervisor's" approval. The supervisor is the guy who checks receipts as you leave, and the workers at HGC are very afraid of him. The poor woman there explained that she would get fired if she attempted to resolve my problem, so I asked who was going to fire her and I would speak with him. She was too afraid to even approach him, and simply pointed him out to me. Although he did resolve my problem in the end, I cannot begin to describe how rude and pompous this guy was! Not only to me, but to the poor workers as well. I left sorry I had ever spent any money there, and resolved NEVER to go there again. There are way too many places to shop for gardening items that treat customers (and workers) with respect, and appreciate customers' hard-earned dollars. Not only was this "supervisor" a total a$$, but he also gave me the creeps. I would like to point out that he was the only non-hispanic person working there. Total jerk with a capital J. I really feel badly for the people who have to work under him. Their job must be a total nightmare. Please, I encourage you to go to Lowe's, Home Depot, or, even better, a business like Houston Plant & Garden World on I-45 just south of 1960, Arbor Gate or RCW. All of these places will greet you with a smile, and let you know they appreciate your business. DO NOT shop at HGC. TWO thumbs down. I wish I could give a negative star rating. That is how bad this business is. more

Worst Garden Center in Houston 12/20/2011

What ever you do not purchase anything from this company. We got a Christmas Tree and purchased a stand that they installed on the tree. This morning, there is water all over the carpet where they cracked the pan. We witnessed them drop the tree in the pan but was not aware that it was that hard to crack it. this is an 8 foot tree that we fully decorated. We call to get a replacement pan and that we would bring back the cracked one after we got it replaced. Keep in mind we have fully decorated this tree and need to secure it once we take off the cracked pan. Well they basically told us to bring the cracked pan back and and that the water in our carpet was our responsibility and that we broke the pan not them. We have completly landscaped our yard front and back with this company and never again will we purchase anything from them. more

The WORST!!!! 5/21/2011

The pits!! Literally. No help, but lots of attitude. Spend your money somewhere else, someplace that values you as a customer. This place sure doesn't, which is pretty apparent the minute you need any kind of help, have a question or want any advice, or even just directions on where to find what you're looking for!! I'll never go back here! more

Bad Grass 9/5/2010

Bought 3 pickups full of St Augustine sod about 6 weeks ago (250 pieces, 18" X 24") at The Woodlands location, I-45 @ 1488.... I did all the right things; tilling, used starter soil, watering, root stimulator, and liquid fertilizer.... It's all a total loss now... Went back and talked to the manager... He said no returns, no exchanges (replacement); period... I will never shop at Houston Garden Center again! more

Bring your own green thumb (BYOGT) 6/28/2010

Houston Garden Centers do not offer the kind of knowledgeable staff like Lowes or Home Depot. In fact, the employees are usually in a foul mood because they are constantly hammered by people with questions they have no answers too. This leaves them with a sense of worthlessness and that would probably put anyone in a sour mood. If you visit, bring your own green thumb, keep your mouth shut, pay the register human and leave. more

Horrible Store 4/21/2010

We bought 12 packs of top soil, cost $33, while the same soil at Lowe's is $1.36 and only cost $16 for 12 packs. The sage palm is $24,but Lowe's only $16. The citrus tree is $37, while Lowe's is $30. We went back to the store right away. Got rude attitude - no return, no price match. What a horrible store. Don't shop here. The stores should be all closed. more

Great selection 8/13/2009

HGC is a great place to go for selection and they have fairly decent prices as well. Their policy of no returns or exchanges can sometimes be a bit cumbersome, however their selection is unbeatable. They take excellent care of the plants in-stock, giving them daily water by hand. Bottom line - if you buy from them, you will get a good-quality plant. more

Good quality! 8/17/2005

I have found that Houston garden center has the best plants at the best price in the Houston area. I replace my flower beds seasonally so shop a lot for plants and flowers. Having shopped elsewhere and been disappointed, I wanted to recommend this lawn and garden shop. Anywhere in Houston you will find a Houston garden center, they are everywhere. Very convenient. But the prices are good too! If you wait until May they go half-price until December. Great savings there. I have never lost a plant from them yet. Choose your flowers with care as all sales are final. No refunds. Has not been a problem here,i have always been satisfied! more

Good Prices, Good Selection 8/6/2005

Houston Garden Center is THE place to go for your landscaping supplies. They have a huge amount of perennials, schrubs for your yard. They also have alot of banana trees. They have a small selection of garden tools and fertilizer, but not much of a selection of annuals (at least not when I visited). The staff is very friendly and seem to be very knowledgeable about plants. more
