In the company of RATS 10/8/2009

All seemed to be going well until the rats ran by us. Not just one, either. They were in the dining area and near the front door. Upsetting. We informed a staff person who did not seem to care. I called the health department the next day. Pros: Food was good and place ""seemed"" clean Cons: Rats running through the dining room. more

RIP OFF false advertising consumers beware, don't go there 8/13/2009

We were on vacation in Seattle and saw advertisement for great dim somon the TV, and the place had a ton of awards posted outside door. False, we ordered #3 dinner for two at 20.00 apiece, the wonton soup came ice cold and rubber wontons, the shrimp okay, the mooshu pork was cold and tasteless, they zapped it in the microwave with the soup and returned the same plates to us. Then the General Taw Chicken was flat and barely warm, the fried rice was cold and microwaved twice and reserved, we got up to leave and they had the nerve to give us the full bill even though we did not eat more than 5 bites, and what we did manage to get down tried to come back up shortly thereafter. Our advice...check the best of listing for ANY OTHER PLACE., DO NOT GO THERE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Clean restroom, only half of soap and towel dispensers work Cons: Deplorable food and service more

A real cattle call 8/7/2008

A group of 10 of us went there for Dim Sum last Sunday and had a less than pleasant experience. Although the food was okay, the service was dreadful. The wait staff were rude and bumped us out of the way to put food on the table. We kept asking for certain foods and they kept bringing stuff we did not want and then encouraged us to, ""Try it. You'll like it."" They even put it on our table when we said we didn't want it. We went a little late and although we told them five times we were not interested in deep fried food, they still tried to sell us a few of their last plates. It was a real cattle call. I've eaten there in the past and was not impressed but this time, I was really put off. I'll never return. more

Not so bad 4/23/2008

I have been to House of Hong a couple of times, but never had a good time there. It was either the food was too cold or americanized. Pros: Nice waiters, and servise Cons: cold food more

Terrible and Offensive LACK of service! 4/13/2008

I am a member of the chinese community with origins in Hong Kong. I went to House of Hong Resurant with my step father who is a member of another ethnic background. We were sitting in the corner by the kitchen with a high booth wall completely obscurring our view into the resturant. The first cart came over and I began ordering in Cantonese the native language of Hong Kong... however the woman apartently did not speak Cantonese as she congratulated me and my ""husband""?!?! (offensive as he is my step father). I waited over 20 mins for a second cart at which time a ""mandarin"" speaking woman congratulated me on my honeymoon... what?! Truely insulting and a complete lack of service. Pros: decor is acceptable Cons: UNLESS YOU SPEAK MANDARIN YOU WILL NOT BE SERVED CORRECTLY more

Do not expect a high quality dimsum here. 4/12/2008

Me and my husband were on a hunt for the best dimsum place in seattle. So far, we have been to three restaurant such as House of Hong, China Gate, and Top Gun. Trust me on this guys....The best dimsum place to go among the three is Top Gun by far!!!. House of Hong is okay. We arrive there arround 11:00 and no problem with the parking. There is a ""valet"" parking guy :) who will guide you where to park ( we gave him a little tip for helping us park. Inside the restaurant...., the atmosphere is okay, a little crowded. The dimsum is okay... coooold. I was not expecting this. Better order the steamed dimsum if you want to eat warm dimsum but the deep fried ones was extremely cold a big disappointment for me and tooo oily!!. Who wants to eat cold dimsum anyway. They have a fair selection of dimsums and taste wise, it was okay. Dimsum here is not something like what you get in hongkong dimsum. Overall, me and my husband still enjoyed it .\r Genie of Seattle more

Poor customer service 3/9/2008

The Hong Kong style noodles were very greasy. Poor customer service (didn't get the order correct) on top of this didn't help either. Cons: Poor customer service, greasy food more

Decent food, angry service 2/24/2008

We went for dim sum and here were the highlights. Yes, we got some tasty food right away but our vegetarian friends had few options with dim and requested a menu. They were told to ask the waiter. When he finally came by, he flung the menu at my friend then stormed off. We eventually were able to flag him down once again to have him take our order. After being ignored by the staff for about 1/2 hour after we finished our food, my husband took the bill up front to pay. Our waiter began yelling at us, as if we were skipping out on our bill, because he hadn't yet totaled it. I told him my husband had the bill up front and I would get it. He then got other staff around who were screaming at us as well.\r I understand there may be language or cultural issues at play in this scenario but I have been to many restaurants in other countries where I don't speak the language or the staff doesn't speak mine and we manage to get through without a major scene. After our shabby treatment today, we will never be back. Pros: Decent dim sum Cons: Angry service more

Very Good Dim Sum 2/14/2008

Very good Dim Sum. Service is slow but the food is very good. Good size parking lot but is always busy. Depending on the time you arrive, you might have to do street side parking nearby. However, the restaurant is large and there is almost never a wait for a table. I highly recommend House Of Hong for Dim Sum. Because the place is so large, they will usually not mind if you hang around at your table after a good meal and talk away with friends and family for an hour ot two. Pros: Great Dim Som, good ambience, decent parking lot size. Cons: Slow Service. more

Terrible service, mediocre food - eat here only if you want a horrible stomach ache. 1/3/2008

I had high hopes for this place, however, I was very disappointed. First off, the service was horrible. It took the waiter 20 minutes to take our order and bring water, and another 30 minutes to get our food. I could understand slow service if the restaurant was busy, but there were only 4 other tables with patrons. Those tables did not have to wait for service, yet we were ignored. The food was mediocre at best, and overpriced. Plus, House of Hong has the audacity to bring tea to the table without our requesting it, and then charge us for the tea! We decided to give this place another shot a few months later, and it was worse than the first trip. We went for Dim Sum one weekend, and it was worse than our first meal. We had three small plates from the carts and ordered a dish that never came (and we were charged for it). The total was much more than we expected and we both left hungry with a horrible stomach ache after eating what we could get down. I will definitely never return to this restaurant. Cons: service, food more

large selection of fresh, tasty dim sum 11/18/2007

My family was visiting from out of town and they'd never had dim sum before, so I took them to House of Hong. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it! Picking out your food from the passing carts is fun, although it can get a little chaotic, especially if you're not very familiar with the different varieties of dim sum and can't immediately tell if the stuff on the cart that's passing by your table is something you've just had, or something different. All the food was good, and my parents, who haven't had pork in years for health reasons, happily made an exception for the pork dumplings - and then got seconds. Communicating with the servers was sometimes difficult because of their accents and our accents, but in a way, this only contributed to the multi-cultural experience. The selection of vegetarian items is not very extensive and they are rarely placed on carts, so I had to special-order them from the server, but the stir-fried noodles and the vegetable-mushroom pancakes I opted for were great. For meat and seafood lovers, though, this is dim sum paradise! Pros: delicious dim sum, fun atmosphere, good value Cons: communication with servers somewhat hindered by language barrier; would have liked a couple more vegetarian dim sum options more

Extremely dissapointing 11/3/2007

We went to the ID hoping to get some good Chinese and ended up at the House of Hong. What a waste of money - we could've eaten better at Panda Express. The service was horrible and I knew the food was going to be bad when I noticed the frozen peas and cubed carrots at the bottom of our tepid non-sizzling rice soup. When I asked for Kung Pao prawns instead of chicken or squid the rattled waitress said ""I don't think we can do that"".... okay, thanks for asking....\r \r The funniest part of the evening was when my husband noticed that one of the waitresses had left an overflowing bus tub/cart in front of a seated table, blocking a customer in.... It was there for several minutes. Just what I want to look at when I'm in the middle of a meal, a bunch of dirty dishes....Yeah, the service is not so hot.\r \r I will never ever ever go back to this restaurant again. Pros: tanks full of prawns & crab for kids to look at Cons: everything else more

Poor service and equally poor food quality 7/28/2007

This restaurant is nothing like it once was. I have been coming to House of Hong for 20 years and I can't believe how it has changed. The servers can be rude, the food quality has slipped and the inside decor is like a big banquet room with no warmth. Too bad, as it used to a great spot to go have lunch or dinner. I wonder if there are new owners here as the faces at the cash register are not the same. more
