Have an incredible time 12/29/2006

I went to Hot House for the first time last night and was pleasantly surprised! Parking was easy, entry was fast [maybe owing to the new year's holiday soon] and overall, it was great. Thursday was samba night with free lessons and not soon after they start playing the dance floor fills up. There was a two-drink minimum and drinks were strong, but with Edilson Lima dancing with his female partner and leading the dancing, it's definitely not boring and it's practically non-stop. We hated to leave at 2am! The only minus was that we bought tickets online and ladies were suddenly free to get in when we got there, with no refunds. more

What it sounds like 6/23/2006

Once go upstairs the deceptively expansive Hothouse stretches out, from the gallery to the bar to the smallish stage. A great performance space for international musicians. I only wish it offered more all-ages shows. All in all, very colorful and vibrant -- you'll find yourself coming back. more

The Hot House is a unique entertainment venue, bringing in musical acts from around the world. The shows here are not what is offered in the rest of the city. The facilities are nice and usually not too crowded. New Year's Eve here is fun as well. The crowd is a nice mix of people. more

Every Type of Music 8/18/2005

This club in the near south Loop can't be defined. You have to check the schedule to find the type of music you're after. Yes, there's jazz, but also world music, Latin funk, folk, and anything alternative. The bar gets crazy, so try to get your drinks early. The bartenders are great and fast, and the music gets everyone dancing. Not easy to find a seat on Saturday night, so if you have a large group, try and arrive early to snag a table. Get on the mailing list to target your favorite band. more
