All I can think is that the person that gave Home Bakery 5 stars is that they work there, or they have never had the opportunity to frequent a REAL bakery (like the German bakeries of the Midwest). I will say that HB does have good bread, but that's about it. Yes their prices are high, especially for the quality.
They have the WORST cookies I have ever had the misfortune to take a bite of. They use the same base dough for everything, from snickerdoodles, to sugar cookies to peanut butter cookies to chocolate chip cookies. I don't know how they do it, but the cookies are greasy and taste like play doh. I have never bought cookies before and had them grease stain a paper bag before (ever heard of Silpats or Parchement paper?!?). Their muffins are like bricks, and their brownies like glue. If you want anything other than bread or a sandwhich, you get better quality and taste (I hate saying this) from the grocery store bakeries.
My homebaked goods are 1000x better tasting and better looking than the crud they sell.
Cons: High prices, horrible taste
