It is unfortunate that the previous reviewer of this restaurant did not take the time to visit with the managers and staff. My wife and I have been eating at the restaurant since its opening here in Santa Maria. On a very rare occasions there has been some problems with overcooking the meat and fried foods. The problem usually derives from an ordinary human error like we all do at home.
A recent change in management brought in something unexpected. It takes a little while for a new manager to be accustomed to his new assignment. This did not happen with Tony. He hit the ground running making slight changes to improve the service and food. The changes were so slight that only the regular clientèle would notice.
As far as the statement stating that the staff expects a tip this is so far from the truth. The service provide to as well as what we have witnessed is excellent. On numerous occasions dinning room staff have refilled our drinks during lulls in arriving customers. What these individuals endure, when parents bring unruly children making a disaster of their eating area, should be recognized by a tip or just a kind word. When they remove items from your table it is always with a respectful request to do so. Personally, they should expect a thank-you for keeping tables cleaned off of used plates regardless if it is their job. My wife and I could name several restaurants in this town that could take some lessons on customer service from the Hometown staff.
