I refuse to stay at this chain since this visit in 1999.
During a weekend stay in San Diego, we booked in La Jolla at the Holiday Inn.
First it started when we arrived. We tried to check-in at 12pm. No rooms were clean at that time. So we waited a half an hour. Came back and checked in.
After we got comfortable, my friend was sitting on her bed and noticed a giant waterbug / cockaroach (about 2-3" in size crawling on the bed).
I immediately called the front desk and asked for another room. The employee said it would make no difference that area (In La Jolla) has lots of "those bugs". She sent someone down to take a look.
I lifted the bedspead and searched for the bug and found lots of FOOD crumbs near the floor of the bed. When the employee came to the door, he asked to come in and spray. He was holding a giant can of 'bug killer'. I refused and called the front desk again. I told the employee it was ridiculous to have the man spray the room with odorous spray and the food crumbs are what is bringing the bugs in.
I argued with the employee for 20 mins about staying at another location within their chain. They fought hard and didn't want to return my money. They finally ended up putting me up in a different location in San Diego.
The experience was such an ordeal. I have never gone back.
