After the hostess quoted us a 1 hour wait, we had been waiting for 2 hours at the bar, when someone came along and tried to force us out of our stools to take them away. I protest...

Awesome German Experience 3/31/2006

What a great place and a great memory waiting to happen! This is one of Northern Kentucky's most fun places to eat. Not only is the food superb and authentically German, the atmosphere is great. There are staff members dressed in German garb and an Oompa Band, too! I would recommend trying the schnitzel sandwich and the soft pretzel appetizers! Make sure to stop by for dinner! more

A Must Eat Experience! 3/29/2006

You probably have never experienced anything like the Hofbrauhaus! A live "Umpah" band fills the authentic German beer hall with atmosphere. The food is great, and you'll certainly have memories from this place. Far from the ordinary, you'll love the authentic place of a one of a kind place. Don't go to Newport without stopping by for dinner, or at least a pretzel! more

German Food and Beer 8/19/2005

This restaurant is known for it's atmosphere. It is in the 'hub' of Newport where all the action now takes place. You can be seated outside for a 'bar' atmosphere or inside for a sit down food atmosphere. I thought the food was okay, I couldn't find the meat on my Reuben sandwich. I don't drink, but have heard they have excellent beer. You definitely want to be seated in an 'off' room as the music is very loud...even too loud at times for the off room. more

Authentic German Food in the Nati 8/17/2005

The Hofbrauhaus is 1 of my 2 favorite restaurants in Cincinnati (along with Sebastians in Price Hill). The ambiance is perfect and the food is amazing. It’s totally an experience, as the main hall (smoking) is basically one big, crazy party with a live German band (that even marches around the place, on occasion). I prefer the back room (no smoking), as you get the wonderful atmosphere with simply less noise. My 3 favorite things to get are: Schnitzel Cordon Bleu, Pretzels & Bier Cheese Dip, and the Hofbräu Dunkel. Do not miss this one of a kind German experience. more

Great German food with Cincy flair! 6/29/2005

YUM! That sums it up for the Hofbrauhaus in Newport! To my knowledge, there are only two Hofbrauhaus's in the US - Newport and Las Vegas... and Newport's is BETTER! They have a wonderful selection of traditional German food, but they also have some of the regional favorites. I went with my mother, and we started off with an appetizer of goetta links... and then my meal include an assortment of sausages, including mettwurst. Now, perhaps these are more widespread than I think... but all I know is when I moved out west and married my husband, whenever i talk about goetta or mettwurst, people look at me like I have two heads. It's only back home in the good old Cincinnati that people are speaking my language - and the Hofbrauhaus serves these German favorites! My mom and I went all out on this meal, and we each finished up with a dessert... and shared, of course! Apple Streudel and a Bavarian creme Puff. EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING was *exceptional* in quality. Do keep in mind, if you go, that they often have a very authentic, very loud band playing German music there! When we went, the host thankfully offered to seat us in a room off to the side. You could enjoy the music, but still hear yourself speak (unlike the Hofbrauhaus in Vegas, but that's another review...) more
