Great value 12/4/2008

The location in a small strip mall doesn't suggested, but damn fine sushi is made here. It has a pleasant, unpretentious atmosphere with friendly staff, although it's definitely not a fancy or very romantic place. There's live jazz music on Friday nights. The only negative would be that they mix up orders on occasion, but they've always quickly and gracefully corrected this. more

More Like HAIRoshi's! 3/14/2006

Yup that's right, I found a hair in my avocado roll. When the waitress found out I had a hair in my roll she immediately ordered me new ones and felt really bad about it, so they did the right thing, and I still think that their food is great. I've just lost that lunch craving that I used to have for their sushi. They are in a great location on Eastlake and have very friendly servers. more

Good cheap and fast 2/3/2006

OK, this is a classic neighborhood sushi place and it is close to three companies that I work with alot, so sometime it feels like the building 8 cafeteria (ask any old Microsoftie what that means). In any case, they have good lunch specials, but the best thing are their monster rolls. Today for dinner, we had their dynomite, their himalaya and their rainbow roll and it fed six people. Also their udon noodles are wonderful. It definitely gets crowded there, but it is so convenient if you work in Eastlake. And good too. Give it a try. If you are there, you are just ten minutes from Judy's Book, Mpire and Pure Networks, so its VC alley :-) more

Tasty Lunch Specials 10/17/2005

I have only been here for lunch, so I can't say how they are for dinner, but I have been very happy with the prices and quality of food here. I was first impressed when I got a Chicken Udon there, and I couldn't believe how tender and tasty it was. Then, I got the daily lunch special that has sashimi, chicken, a small salad and comes with either miso, or for a dollar more a great bowl of Udon with a giant shrimp. Whatever they are doing there is definitely a step above the masses. I am guessing its just using quality ingredients, and that's always a good thing. I would maybe have given them another star based on food alone, but whereas the service is mostly good and they are very nice, they can be a bit slow at times, and not attentive to refills of beverages, etc. Either way, I highly suggest this place if you want good japanese food at a reasonable price. more

Great Japanese food without the attitude. 10/14/2005

Ok, so you are up for Japanese food but not up for the fake stuff at Nishino's? (Sorry, can't handle preppy sushi.) Hiroshi's in Eastlake is a hidden gem and serves the real thing. The sushi is fresh, generous and delicious. The udon noodles are terrific. The saba we ordered was huge and not overcooked and so just right! Tell 'em Judy's book sent you! more

Great all around Japanese food 7/7/2005

This is our favorite Japanese place. The sushi is fabulous and nicely priced. They have very good hot dishes as well - try the combination with tonkatsu and teryaki salmon and their sukyaki. It's a large portion and very tasty. They also have seasonal specials that are very good. Another good thing about Hiroshi's is that you can reserve their tatami rooms for a larger group of people. It's a cozy and more intimate setting. It's not real tatami (hardwood floor) but nonetheless, it's fun to dine there. The service is good and the food is abundant. more

More Than a Strip Mall Sushi Joint.. 6/8/2005

Hiroshi's is absolutely fabulous! They have a great selection of rolls and sushi, and it is at a really good price. All of the fish has execellent texture, temerature and taste. I have personally taken a hands on sushi class from Hiroshi himself, and he really knows his stuff. They also have a full bar :) Try out the dragon roll. Its delicious! Very few sushi bars have great ambiance, but this restaurant doesn't strike me as a hole in the wall kind of place. more

Hiroshi's - Average Sushi Lunch 5/2/2005

Andy Sack (Judy's Book CEO) took me here for lunch today. The setting is ok - kind of your typical shopping mall Japanese lunch place. The food and service were good but there was this pervasive smell of stale mopwater that lingered until the sushi showed up. The miso was great - a definite must - and the fish was fresh. more

Very Good Sushi - Great Value! 3/16/2005

Hiroshi's cannot boast the nicest ambience. It is located in a small strip mall in the Eastlake neighborhood and has metal chairs and tables. The decor is lacking. But if you are looking for really good sushi and at a very reasonable price it is worth trying. My wife and I can get full on sushi for $30 total. Less than half what we pay at Chinois and the quality is comparable. Beyond sushi the Japanese food is good, I have only tried the soups and appetizers though because we always get sushi for the main course. more

yum 7/28/2004

Located in a mini-mall type of development along Eastlake Ave, Hiroshi's lacks a little in the decor department inside and out. But don't despair, the sushi and the other menu items are really great. I recommend concentrating on their maki sushi (rolls). And the portions are enormous, try the chirashisushi lunch! Service is the real deal japanese style too--you won't sit around waiting for water or tea. more
