Hill Country Pediatrics

Prior to their moving to the River Place location, we received great care for our children from Dr. Wells. However, the small family friendly practice transformed into a corporate driven patient factory. Staff became aloof, doctors became impersonal and seeing a doctor became extremely difficult as we were relegated to PAs. We could have dealt with this given our fondness for Dr. Wells (the complete lack of empathy of Dr. Bartlett is another matter) but our child was misdiagnosed for several years before another doctor correctly identified her condition. Other comments regarding the staff making the parents feel inadequate is also dead on. more

My son was born premature at 28 weeks and we have used Hill Country Pediatrics, specifically Dr. Wells, since he came home from the hospital. I couldn't be happier with the quality of service that we receive from the doctors, nurses, and staff. I have always been able to get a sick appointment for my son immediately, within a few hours of my phone call. If I have a question for a nurse, I can always expect a phone call back. When my son had to get stitches, we walked right into an examining room even though we didn't call ahead of time. The traditional 30 minute waiting time that has become typical at most doctor's offices doesn't exist here. I appreciate the fact that I don't have to wait more than 5 minutes for our appointment. Best of all, the staff is great and patient with kids. My son is terrified of the doctor's office, and he's definitely a crier and can occasionally be a screamer. Everyone works compassionately and is patient enough to get everything done. Dr. Wells, Dr. Bartlett, Dr. Tarrant, Cathy, and Becky are all wonderful! This practice, and Dr. Wells in particular, have been terrific for many years. However, patients (and their parents) have suffered over the past couple of years as the practice has grown and become more machine-like. The ""family friendly setting"" adverstised on their website was definitely true a few years ago. However, the current practice setting features too many patients with too few doctors and a generally unpleasant and often hostile staff who appear to be tasked with churning out patients with little regard for customer service. If you can ignore the staff and don't care about customer service, the actual medical care from the doctors is still very good. Pros: Great Doctors Cons: Poor Service and Angry Staff more

I have had good experiences with Dr. Wells but recently had a child diagnosed with ADD and called to ensure Dr. Bartlett was comfortable with prescribing medications for this. Our conversation made me feel uncomfortable, she lacked empathy throughout the phone conversation. I do not recommend her. more

The Doctors are great and many of the staff are friendly. I would like for them to acknowledge the good things that I have been doing with my child. I work very hard to develop her skills and to make sure that she is eating the right things however I hear all the things that I could be doing better. I was even told by one of the staff that the clothes I dressed her in were cute but inappropriate for the visit . If I want to put my daughter in a dress then I shouldn't have to answer for it. I wish that when I leave the office I didn't feel as if I'm doing it all wrong. Dr. Wells is a phenomenal doctor. Outside of regular check ups for my kids we have had incidents with both children that were emergencies. The care Dr. Wells took with both of my children including getting urgent care upon arrival at Children's Hospital made a big difference in the timing and care we received. Having moved here from out of state (where we thought we had an excellent Pediatrician), I can only say we could not be more pleased with Dr. Wells and all the doctors at Hill Country Pediatrics (they are all wonderful physicians)! I did not have a good experience on several occasions. I will be looking for a new pediatrican in the Austin area. The new location is also not convenient any longer. more

Dr. Bartlett is just wonderful. I take my daughter and son to see her and the level of care we get from her is always high and she is very compassionate. The office staff and her nurse (Becky is terrific!) are kind and always remember us and make my children feel comfortable. Dr. Wells & Dr. Tarrant are also kind and attentive. On a recent visit with my son, Dr. Tarrant and the nurse somehow got my son to take a strep swab without crying and without being afraid - it was amazing! And somehow, Nurse Becky can administer shots to my kids without pain and without a tear shed! She is a GEM. I HIGHLY recommend this pediatric office to anyone in the area and beyond.
