MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- When officials with the Flint Hills Area Builders Association realized funds were missing from their organization, they turned to the police and now, their executive officer is at the center of a theft investigation.\r \r According to Riley County police, investigators were made aware on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 of a theft of more than $25,000 from the association, whose office is located on Anderson Avenue in Manhattan.\r \r Police say they were contacted by members of the association with concerns regarding their executive officer, Tracy Roberts, 44, who goes by T-Shane Roberts.\r \r Detectives started to look into the allegations and searched Roberts' home in Wamego Wednesday, ""to assist in furthering the investigation,"" an RCPD press release stated.\r \r He was arrested Wednesday night at the Riley County Police Departments headquarters in Manhattan for theft and making false information and has since been released from jail after posting bond.\r \r Officer Matt Droge, spokesman for the Riley County Police Department, could not release additional details on the case or comment on the time frame of when the money was allegedly taken but says the investigation is ongoing and that the association could face a loss greater than $25,000.\r \r Patrick Schutter, president of the Flint Hills Area Builders Association, told WIBW that Roberts was their only employee and oversaw the organization's finances, memberships and event planning.\r \r According to their website, the Flint Hills Area Builders Association represents more than 200 members in Clay, Geary, Marshall, Morris, Pottawatomie and Riley counties and is made up of people from all aspects of the building industry, including builders and their sub-contractors, landscapers, bankers, realtors, lumber yards, surveyors and insurance companies.\r \r Schutter declined to comment on the case involving Roberts, telling WIBW that he's ""disappointed.""\r \r He issued the following statement: ""It had come to the attention of our board of directors that there was some suspicious activity taking place by our former Executive Officer. We have turned our information over to the RCPD and they were following up on the information. As of 6:45 Wednesday night the RCPD arrested T-Shane Roberts for theft over $25,000. We have been instructed to not elaborate on the information that we know at this time while there is an ongoing investigation. We have also been asked to not have any contact with T-Shane or his family while their investigation is on-going."" more
