Nothing but superlatives for Clay and his team at High Performance. I would recommend High Performance to anyone without hesitation or qualification: a team of highly trained professionals committed to your fitness goals without attitude or pretense. After 5 months, my body has turned from a gelatinous blob--the byproduct of 15 years of steak dinners, Amstel Light, and the complete absence of any real consistent physical activity--to something I'm relatively proud of; more critically, Clay has changed my attitude toward fitness and the gym and, as such, has been able to alter fairly deep-rooted behavioral patterns. Before our first session, I was a bit intimidated by his roster of celebrity clients and extensive press. But after 15 minutes, I was completely at ease. Clay is totally down-to-earth and genuinely cares about his clients; he has an uncanny ability to understand their motivations and designs workouts accordingly. Sessions are never boring / routine; and Clay always remembers the details of our workouts and then finds that ""next"" level, ensuring against stagnation / plateauing. When I'm lazy or want to quit, Clay always manages to make me do that extra rep--which always makes each session that much more rewarding. If you are looking for someone who is incredibly knowledgeable (from martial arts to pilates), cares deeply about the results and well-being of his clients, and is a genuinely good guy with a great sense of humor, Clay is the trainer for you. more

Best Personal Trainers 11/10/2009

I have been training with Clay for over ten years. He is one of the best in the business. He is able to calibrate exactly how far he can push me so that I get a lot out of my workout and keep coming back. He keeps things interesting by mixing up the workout so I don't know what to expect. I am more fit and toned than I ever could be without him. I love going to the gym. I have also trained with Elizabeth who is fantastic. She helped me get back up to speed after maternity leave while Clay was away touring with Springsteen. I can't say enough about Clay and Elizabeth and would recommend them to anyone. Best Training Ever 11/9/2009

I would recommend High Performance to everyone! After enduring years of not being able to exercise regularly and having multiple surgeries I went to see Elizabeth. The results were amazing. Elizabeth has such a complete understanding of the body and how it works and she was able to work with me so that after a few weeks of training with her regularly I was able to do more than I had in the preceding 5 years. She is far and away the smartest and most able trainer (and person) I have ever met. I also have the highest regard for Clay. The trainers and the atmosphere at High Performance are top quality. I've been involved in Fitness in NYC for about 17 years. I have followed this most knowledgeable group of personal trainers for many of those years. They all came from various health clubs throughout NYC. They were the best, so of course they had to branch out on their own. When I personally have questions, I go to the dynamic husband/wife team: Clay & Elizabeth Burwell. they've always been cutting edge with whatever is going on in fitness. I've been to the gym many times & watched as the trainers put together fun, exciting, challenging workouts for their clients. If you're trying to lose weight, train for an event, or even just keeping your fabulous shape in tact, this gym, and these trainers are the best in the city HANDS DOWN! Pros: Simply the best! more

Best Gym in New York City 10/27/2009

Elizabeth and Clay Burwell have an outstanding facility. Having trained with both Elizabeth and Reggie Chambers, I would say their gym is the best in NYC. Elizabeth's knowledge of physical biomechanics is quite impressive. Reggie is also an excellent trainer, and great boxing instructor! Quadriplegic with stiff muscles 10/26/2009

I am a c6/c7 quad with muscles approaching atrophy. Both Clay and Elizabeth stretched me out and really improved my range of motion. Not only does this help with the atrophy it also improves my muscle spasms and in turn my life! Not only did they do a great job they educated my wife and I on household therapy. A definite 5 star! Pros: very knowledgable and caring Cons: can't find any more

Elizabeth is amazing! 7/23/2009

My chiropractor recommended Elizabeth and High Performance because I have a back injury that causes me a lot of pain - I did tons of physical therapy, but still was having some problems. Having worked out now for 2 months with Elizabeth, I am stronger and feel better every time. She is an excellent trainer, always pushes me and challenges me, but understands what it's like to be working with an injury so I'm not worried about re-injuring myself (as I have been with some other trainers). I'm not usually a big fan of gyms, but this one has a nice atmosphere - the other trainers are very professional and work with a wide variety of clients, and everyone's pretty low key and relaxed. if you are serious about getting in shape or addressing a chronic injury that prevents you from working out, this is the place. Pros: excellent trainers, down to earth, friendly atmosphere Cons: I wish I could go more often more

Cher is making me ""fly""! 7/16/2009

I've trained with Cher one-on-one and in her Bootcamp class. This woman is no joke, but she keeps me laughing through the workout. Don't misunderstand the sessions are tough and downright challenging. But it's soooooo worth it. I'm stronger, faster, leaner and d**n near fly because of Cher. Reggie Chambers is a phenomenal trainer. He trained me through my pregnancy and helped me get into shape after pregnancy. He tailors each workout according to his clients' strengths, weaknesses, body type and goals. He is extremely knowledgeable and really fun to work out with. Khari May is simply a great trainer 7/13/2009

I've been working out with Khari for several years and can't say enough to recommend him. His workouts are creative and personalized. He knows just how far he can push you and gets maximum results from the time available. The attitude at High Performance is no-nonsense and the workouts are often more functional than just pumping away on some machines. more

As much of a cheesy pickup line as this starts out to be this is the place to go for training at it's best and the results you want. Just be prepared to earn them. Tracy Helsing will get you results, and keeping you smiling and laughing while sweating to achieve them. Her workouts are always different and fun, and trying without being tedious. I can't recommend her enough. While I'm not ready for a Playboy pictorial, I am most certainly feeling good this summer about my body roaming the beaches. If anyone needs to get in shape for summer, ask for CHER at High Performance. I've trained with her for 3 months to get bikini ready this summer and she kicked my butt into shape! With tons of experience she really knows how to work your body to make it look it's best. Let me start by saying - I HATE the gym and I hate anything resembling a gym workout. Weights bore me, the treadmill and elliptical machines put me to sleep. Just getting to the gym was a mental battle for me...and not because I'm lazy. I was a pre prefessional ballet dancer but at the age of 21 I had to stop dancing due to injuries. 6 years later...I was overweight and in the worst shape of my life.
