High Museum: Great museum! Worth a visit. 4/13/2006

I am not from Atlanta but the High is one of my favorite museums. I am really impressed with their permanent holdings and as well as the temporary exhibits I have seen. Their layout is a bit unusual but allows the art pieces to be displayed in an interesting fashion. For any art lovers, I recommend a trip to the High when you are in Atlanta. more

A great musuem to visit! 9/17/2005

I wasn't sure what to expect at a modern art museum but I have enjoyed all of the exhibits at the museum. We have seen the Van Gogh and Norman Rockwell exhibits to name a few. Both were well managed and thoughtfully layed out. The layout is unique with its multi levels and the gift shop has some wonderful, unique gifts at some affordable prices. The adjoining cafe is a nice place to grab some lunch and you can sit outside and enjoy the sun. more

Great way to spend an afternoon 8/21/2005

The High Museum of Art in Atlanta is a great way to spend an afternoon in Atlanta. They have many interesting permanent exhibits, as well as limited engament exhibits. It does cost to get in, but you can become a friend of the museum to save money. I love the open, airy feeling of the building, and it is in a prime location for sight seers and people ready to spend a day in Atlanta. more

Great every time. 8/20/2005

This place is enjoyable each time I go. I have been with my family and I have taken my students on a day trip to downtown Atlanta. They have been undergoing renovations for the past year or so, so I will have to let you know what they do in the future. The permanent collection is interesting and they usually have some great traveling collections as well. more

Good Traveling Exhibits 8/18/2005

The High Museum, though under a huge expansion is certainly not a great collection, though it is pretty good. If you've traveled to any major cities you may be disappointed. However if you are a local they do have some very good traveling exhibits throughout the year. They also have good childrens programs and Jazz evenings and private showings. Worth a membership if you live close and worth a visit at least once if you visit Atlanta often. Can't wait for the expansion to open though. more

not too shabby 8/17/2005

Not being much of an art afocianado, I wasn't sure how I would enjoy the High. However, just looking at the outside architecture gives a sense of how the inside will be. In this multi-level museum in the middle of downtown, there are many exhibits that rotate through during the year. They have had some high profile pieces of art come through, and I believe they have entered into some agreement with the Louvre for a borrowing of some art. A couple of times a year, they have a college night, which is free for college students, and it's a great place to go and enjoy a nice museum for students on a budget. more

High Museum Of Art 8/17/2005

I went High Museum Of Art when the Van go exhibit came to Atlanta and I was amazed. The exhibit was so extensive and so beautiful and the High was the perfect place to have it. I didn’t even mind the two hours I had to wait in line because it was worth it. The High is an amazing place with its sheer size. Just driving by makes your notice how big it is, but somehow they have managed to give it a personal feel to it. If you are visiting or are a resident, a visit to the High is a must. There is always an exhibit there in conjunction to their normal collection. more

Not the Louvre but nice traveling exhibits 8/7/2005

No one is going to confuse the High Museum for the Louvre or any other world class museum. Not even close. With that said, the High is a nice museum that has decent permanent exhibits and sometimes obtains some excellent traveling exhibits that are definitely worth seeing. They have had everything from Monet to Egyptian art. Parking isn't fantastic for the museum so expect to walk a little. more

Great galleries 8/5/2005

this museum probably has the best stock and variety in all of atlanta. i had a hard time finding it, since it doesn't sit on a major avenue, but it is well worth the drive. If i was going to visit any one art gallery in atlanta, this would definitely be the one. The gallery usually has new monthly exhibits, and those are the best infusion of artistic inspiration in the city. more

Great Museum 7/19/2005

This is a beautiful museum inside and out. The architecture is amazing. Their collection consists of Revolution, Civil War, and early to mid 1900s art, material, and equipment. The collections are beautiful and fun to see and read about. This is a great look into our history. This is truly a place that everyone in Atlanta should visit. more
