Go to another doctor in this group 5/8/2012

30+ years of going to gastro's due to IBD and this was the first time I had a bad experience with a doctor. Condescending to women. Dismissive. more

RUDE RECEPTIONIST!!!!!!!!!!!! 4/26/2011

I was seen at the ER for IBD symptoms and referred to Dr. Flax. After speaking with the receptionist, I would never go here. Feeling terrible already, no person should have to deal with this while trying to call a doctor for help. I was told by the nurse at the ER to speak directly with a nurse at the doctor's office, the receptionist DENIED me to speak to a nurse in regards to an emergency appointment. The next appointment would be in a week and a day, ridiculous! Totally uncaring practice. more

Have Patience 10/13/2008

I have been going to Dr. Mauk for about 5 months. I am always totally dissatisfied with the way his front desk handles me. I have been put on hold for over 20 minutes to make an appointment. If I want to talk to the nurse, I end up being passed around for 20 minutes and either get hung up on or have to leave a message without it being returned. If I need to make an appointment I can't ever get into him for at least 2 weeks. When you have stomach issues, 2 weeks is a long time. If it is an emergency, they still say they can't fit you in. Dr. Mauk is a nice man and he seems generally interested in my condition. However, I do feel rushed when I am at his office and we still haven't been able to come up with a diagnosis. I have now chosen to go to another doctor so I don't have to deal with his front desk any longer. I wouldn't recommend going to Dr. Mauk unless you have patience for being on hold and disrespectful admins. Pros: Dr. Mauk makes you feel comfortable Cons: Front Desk, Wait time for appointments & procedures more

Dr. Ira Flax (Digestive and Liver Specialist 3/12/2007

Dr Flax is a caring doc. He listens to his patients. Digestive disorders can be scary, but Dr. Flax is there to help. I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy soon. We will see how that goes. Pros: Once you get to talk to him, you have his full attention. Great office staff. His nurse. more

Poor Office staff 9/24/2006

I just saw this site and was amazed that someone else feels like I do. I callled and left a message on their recorder last week about Dr. Mauk as my son is new to this area and we had questions. No one bothered to call me back. I called again today (9/25/2006)and I was put through to ""someone""and I was able to get out a few words and she said, ""I must put you on hold"". I held and held and held and held and held and held until I was falling asleep. No one bothered to come back on the line. His staff needs to go Dale Carnegie to learn how to deal and treat this doctor's patients. it is the pateint's that PAY his bills. Can you imagine if it were an emergency. Where does he get these kind of people....Nope, I will not call back...This may be a blessing in disguise. more

Inefficient front office 7/31/2006

He may be a good gastroenterologist but his front office is very inefficient! I have been put on hold several times and when someone answers they interrupt me to tell me that they picked up the wrong phone! This has happened several times. I do no not how he gets so much business. He may be good but does he not have to start with an appointment? more
