I recently held a 50-person event at Helium Comedy club. The comedians were great, and the ambience was perfect for my event, but the manager and staff were a little off-putting. I showed up to my event 5 minutes before it started so I could pay for the event, and they would not let me in the door until 6:00 on the dot. Then the manager came up to me while I was mingling with guests and had me write the check for him at the bar. Just before the show started, I was informed by one of my guests that the wait staff was trying to require my guests to purchase two items in the showroom, after many of them had been buying drinks at the cash bar before the show. When I asked the manager to correct his wait staff, he basically told me to handle it. You would think that someone who just spent over $2,000 at your establishment in one night would deserve to be treated with top notch customer service, but that was not the case there.
Don't get me wrong, Helium is a great place to go with friends or on a date, but I would think twice before having a group event there.
Pros: Great acts, intimate setting, decent value, great bartenders
Cons: Customer service from management is lacking
