Heartland Brewery 10/5/2006

Beer lovers listen up! The Heartland Brewery has several locations throughout the city. I've only been to the one in Union Square though. They carry about 8 of their own microbrewed varieties plus several seasonal or temporary kinds (right now is the Smiling Pumpkin Ale). You can get a sampler platter with, I think, 6 ounce glasses, one of each type to see what fits you best. I wouldn't recommend eating there for the sole purpose of leaving more room for beer. If you insist on eating then definitely, 100% go for the sliders. They also have strange concotions with beer and hard liquor like their newet realease call the Berry Champagne - "...red reaspberry puree, a touch of ginger, some pomegranate oil, and special Belgian yeast that creates a dry effervescent finish, this is beer with a sweet crisp taste..."' Up for something new? go to Heartland... more

Good neutral ground 6/2/2006

Heartland is a good neutral, but pleasant, environment. I'd recommend it for after work socializing, meeting people you haven't seen in ages (you know, when those pesky friends from high school send you email after ten years) or neutral ground for a drink with an ex. it's lack of emotional content, and more than decent food and beer make it ideal for all your quasi-awkward social needs. more

Not impressed 5/31/2006

I've been generally pleased with Heartland but not impressed in the least bit. The selection of brews are nice but not extrodinary and the food is good but not great. I've been to a number of brew pubs and while none of them have been bad, Heartland fails to stand out from the crowd. If you're looking for a frat crowd this is your baby. Personally, I'll stay away. more

Grown up frat bar 5/14/2006

Heartland Brewery is fast becoming a chain around the city and I'm not sure if that's a good thing. Their house brews are very good, and I encourage anyone to visit a location to try their sampler. The sampler usually feature six little glasses of their different beers and is a great way to figure out where your taste for beer lies. Admittedly, the chain is a big hit with the guys and many girls, but their menu is lacking. While it covers all the essentials like burgers, salads, and entrees, they aren't necessarily the best tasting. The best way to handle Heartland Brewery is to make this a stop after you've already ate. more

An assortment of beer.. 4/14/2006

This is a cool bar if you are a fan of beer. They offer a huge selection of beers, including seasonal beers. They also have a “sampler” where you can get a small glass of a bunch of different beers to taste. Each time I go there I get a different beer, and I am never disappointed. more
