Fun! 3/22/2006

OK, you don't get a chance to go to the drive-in much these days. This is a great place for a fun night out with a date or the family. Sure, it's a little rough around the edges but that's what makes it great. On the downside, the bathrooms are a little gross, but hey, what movie theater doesn't have gross bathrooms. The drive in is a unique place that you can't find anywhere anymore and it's a must-do at least a few times every summer! more

Harvest Moon 8/4/2005

There are not many Drive-In theaters around anymore. This one is not fabulous but it is still fun to go to. The weeds are quite overgrown, the bathrooms are dirty and I simply do not trust anything not prepackaged from the snack bar. However it is an experience like no other and it is fun to see the silly advertisements before the movie. We usually go at least once a summer. more

Old-fashioned summer fun 7/26/2005

Drive-in movie theaters seem to be a dying breed these days. The number of people I've taken to Harvest Moon who have declared it to be their first drive-in experience is ridiculous. In general drive-in movie theaters are a great experience. Best to go with a group not afraid to talk back to the screen. Bring blankets for sitting on the hood of your car with, or plenty of lawn chairs and crank up your radio. The trick to picking a movie to see is to go for the least amount of plot and the largest special effects budget. I saw War of the Worlds at the drive-in a few weeks ago and it worked perfectly. Harvest Moon has two screens that each show one movie. Shows start at dusk every weekend. The snack counter has expanded this year, to two buildings and a traveling golf cart that sells candy and soda. The burgers and popcorn are good, and the chocolate-covered banana is intriguing although I'll probably never try it. They even let you order from the Pizza hut across the street to be delivered to your car (you can no longer walk across the street to pick it up, must be ordered at the movie snack counter). I recommend bringing a large group and a (discrete) cooler of beer (not for the driver of course), and parking on the edge of the crowd so as not to annoy the families too much. Then critique away to your heart's content. My one complaint is that they introduce an intermission into the movie. Breaks are fine for popcorn and bathroom trips, but they break up the movies at the most random spot possible. Ruins the effect a lot of the time. But hopefully at that point you're enjoying yourself so much you won't care. more

Harvest Moon Drive-In 7/11/2005

Harvest Moon Drive-in is the neatest movie theater I have ever been to. I love being able to sit in my car and watch a movie or taking a lawn chair and a radio and watching a movie. They have a huge grassy area kids can run around and play in while waiting for the movie to start or during intermission. There snack bar offers all kinds of stuff even including Pizza Hut Pizza. This is a great fun family outing and there more affordable than the regular movies and alot more comfortable. more
