I really wish this place was better. The inexpensive sushi is buried in rice, which makes it bland. A few things on the menu are tasty like Harry's fingers. But, most of the me...

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/20/2012

The menu is the same as Surin's so we sometimes frequent there. Never again! The customer service is horrible! Just try pointing out the lipstick on your glass or other unmentionables without the waiter pointedly ignoring you or becoming belligerent. Seriously? Complaints are completely unneeded. more

Bang for your Buck Sushi 2/25/2010

As far as mid-range sushi is concerned (not as expensive as MF, not as cheap as Ru Sans), Harry and Sons definitely has the game on lock down. With a bar (alcohol, not sushi) greeting you to the right, and seating to the left, along with a back room and patio, the room is decorated with traditional Asian restaurant flare, though it still feels quite dated. Rolls like the ""rainbow roll"" are loaded up with fresh fish, though the true sushi lover will dig the thickly sliced shashimi. The friendly staff are surprisingly patient considering the joint is usually pretty full. Try a Tiger beer or split a warm bottle of sake with your date. Parking can be found for free along the neighborhood streets, but there is also a nearby pay lot. Pros: Fresh fish, good prices, friendly service Cons: The dining room could use a re-design more

Save cash: Noodle bowl lunch 2/10/2010

I used to live in Virginia Highland (not ""the Highlands"" as so many of the uneducated residents now call it) and what's now Pozole used to be a place called Surin Thai Bowl, or ""The Noodle Bowl"" as my roommate and I endearingly referred to it. Now this was owned by the same people that own Harry and Sons & Surin of Thailand, but basically only did these glorious Americanized noodle bowls. Sadly the place closed but Harry & Son's still does one of the staples at lunch, the Chicken Noodle Bowl. For $7, you basically get a bowl of pad thai noodles covered in a curry broth that tastes like thai coconut soup, all of which is topped with grilled chicken. Its super filling, hearty and is guaranteed to leave you with nice to-go container. Sort of like eating pho, it's hard to eat both broth and noodles, but overall (esp for $7) this is a good lunch option. Pros: Reliable, relative cheap Thai/Sushi Cons: VaHi location = VaHi crowd more

Okay Food, Decent Price, Bad Customer Service 12/12/2009

I have visited this restaurant twice. My first visit was great. The food was fresh, the service was prompt and the price was very reasonable. There were only two of us and it was about an hour before closing so there weren't that many people in the restaurant. Because iI enjoyed my first visit, I convinced a group of my friends (about 15) to go for a birthday party. We were seated promptly but the ordering drinks/food and actually getting the food took about an hour. By the time we got our food we were starving. The thai food that we had ordered was mostly cold, probably because they were trying to bring all the food out at once. Some of us returned the food to the kitchen and it was just merely microwaved and returned to us. The beef was rock solid and most of the food lacked any flavoring. My pad thai had dried out by the time i began eating it... The sushi that was ordered had very bad coloring to it and it did not look even remotely fresh. It looked like the sushi that you get at the grocery store. To top it all off, we were charged 18% gratuity which is completely understandable since we had a large crowd. But for some reason, some of us were charged more than 18% and i ended with about 40% charge on the total cost. I called the next day, tried to reach the management, and they never called me back. I intentionally convinced my friends to come here for a birthday party since i thought it would be a great experience. However, it was quite disappointing and i do not think i will be returning in the future. Pros: Reasonably Priced Food Cons: You Get What You Pay for more

Worst thai ever 12/8/2009

I had the green curry and it was very bland even after I asked them to make it hot for me. There was nothing thai about the dish at all.The sushi looked good or at least the pictures on the menu did but I prob wont ever give it a chance. Pros: No charge for more rice more

Consistently Great Thai/Sushi! 9/21/2009

I just moved back to Atlanta after 6 years. I had to go back to my fav. thai rest. Harry & Sons. After 6 years this restaraunt still proves to be one of my favorites. Chicken Panang and Eggrolls were as usual Yummy! The service was warm and helpful. Pros: Always great food and service. more

This Place Is Really Good...Really Good! 6/18/2008

Awesome.... Best sushi and Thai in town. Super Crunch Roll and the Harry Maki Roll, well forgetaboutit. I have had almost everything on the menu and have been blown away by it all. The service is always great, while the restaurant itself has a very easygoing vibe. I just wish I could get some of the lunch menu for dinner. Pros: Sushi, Thai, service, I can keep going more

Great sushi! 6/4/2008

I?m a regular visitor here, and will continue to be one! My boyfriend and I come here for a healthy, tasty dinner of soup and sushi. The sushi is always fresh and tasty, although we did order take out from there once and didn?t have a great experience. They aren?t exactly cheap here, but the quality of the food is well worth the extra couple of dollars. I?ve never had a poor experience with the service other than it being slow when they?re crowded. It?s always clean and inviting, and the wait staff has always been more than kind. Love this place! Pros: Sushi, Soups, Apps, Cons: Thai more

excellent asian foods in an unassuming package 1/2/2007

Harry and Sons in Virginia Highlands is certainly unassuming on the outside - and inside really - but it fits the style of the Highlands. If you aren't looking for it, you can walk right by it. The inside isn't lavishly appointed either; it is the food alone that is the draw for this restaurant. The menu is pan-asian with a little american thrown in. Being a fairly new sushi eater, I was a little intimidated by the menu, actually. However, the tempura roll that I had was amazing. It was a bit pricey for a weekday lunch considering the other cheaper options, but as far as good sushi goes it was right on par. I have never been when it is busy, but judging by the size of the dining room, wait time probably get lengthy on the weekends. If you can sneak away for a weekday late lunch, I would recommend it. We sat right down and had our food in less than 20 minutes. It is a great place to meet friends. Pros: great food Cons: limited seating, a bit pricey more

Great sushi! 10/5/2006

The thai may be mediocre, but the sushi rolls are fantastic. Try the Crab roll. Pros: Sushi Cons: Service can be weak more

Beginner Thai! 8/1/2006

If you don't know anything about Thai cuisine, this might be a good place to start. This is the most basic Thai food, from the owner next door at Surin. Tasteless, no depth, and where is the curry? Service is that of college cafeteria. Hard to find a place to park. Pros: It's In The Highlands! Cons: Bland Food Quality, Very Basic Service! more

This place serves the best gourmet food in town. The employees are the best servers in the business. There's never a wait: two inside seating areas ideal for parties and events. H&S has the perfect atmosphere for any occasion, business lunch, first date, anniversary. It is kid friendly, but during the day or on a Sunday evening is better family time. Sushi quality is wonderful! The calamari rocks. And a bottle of sake is 10$ Can't beat that. This is one of the best restaurants around! See you there. Pros: sushi quality, service more

best sushi for your buck! 7/8/2005

Another long time favorite of mine. Harry & Sons is the perfect blend of sushi quality, atmosphere and value. This spot is not uber-trendy or a see & be seen place, which I prefer. The sushi quality is great and the prices are perfect for what you get. In the 5 years I've been eating here, I have never had a problem with the service. I always recommend Harry & Sons and it's always my first choice when the craving strikes! I celebrated my 26th birthday party here as well. The original reservation was for 10 - which grew to 20. They did a great job accomodating us all! Looking forward to more years of great sushi!! Pros: Great Value, Good Atmosphere, Outdoor Patio Cons: Lunch ends at 2:30 more

Really Bad Service 6/9/2005

I used to love this place. The food was good. I always got the sushi. But, over the past year or more, the service has really gone down hill. The worst offenders seem to be the managers!!! My boyfriend and I were treated really badly 3 or 4 visits in a row last summer and decided to never go back...and we haven't. Pros: good food, good price Cons: bad service, bad service, really bad service more

Its Good for the Price 8/9/2004

The food was good and the prices are resonable but the service can be improved. Our server took awhile to greet us and then twenty minutes after he took our sushi order, he realized he had lost the order sheet. If its a nice night out, request to sit on the patio, its really nice. more

Best susi value 1/2/2003

We've tried a lot of susi places in Atlanta, but keep coming back to Harry and Sons, because you can't beat the value. Good, fresh, quality sushi. I'm not usually a ""roll"" person, but the Yumi roll is out of this world! It's a great restaurant for sharing. The wait can be long, but you'll understand why when you have the food. more

Just walk on by... 10/24/2002

I really wish this place was better. The inexpensive sushi is buried in rice, which makes it bland. A few things on the menu are tasty like Harry's fingers. But, most of the menu (besides the sushi) is shared with Surin & is better prepared at Surin. more

Great combination 9/15/2002

I LOVE this place. I love the idea that I can go out for sushi with some non-sushi-loving friends and they will still be able to eat really well. The sushi is delicious and so affordable! And the Thai food is just great. My favorites: the fresh basil rolls, the *pot* *stickers* (YUMYUMYUM), the spicy coconut soup (chicken or shrimp) and really any of the entrees. Sooooooooo GOOD! Only drawback is that it can get pretty crowded. Try to get a patio table. more

Love it! 9/11/2002

They have very good and affordable sushi. I've eaten here countless times and I never had a bad meal. The only complaint is it can get to be very crowded on Saturday nights. Go early or sit at the sushi bar. more
