Hardwick's is one of a kind 10/15/2009

If you've never been to Hardwick's, you have to go. They have some of the greatest tools in town. It's obvious that the buyer for this store actually uses tools. They find something good, they stock it in the store. I've been a General Contractor since 1980 and I highly recommend Hardwick's. They probably have what you're looking for. You might not be able to find it, but just ask and they'll know what you're talking about and take you to where it is in the store. That's probably the owner of the store that's showing you around. You'll never get that treatment at Home Depot. It's a fun place to go and it makes you feel good spending your hard earned money in your hard working neighbor's store. more

The Right Stuff...I found it at Hardwicks. 11/6/2007

Hardwick's sandpaper selection changed the way I prep exterior surfaces. With the right sandpaper and tools I can remove any amounts of old paint and restore the surface so that its truly ready for primer and paint again. If I use other stores materials we waste time changing worn out sandpaper more often, they don't hold up like the ones I get at Hardwick's. It takes longer and costs more. So thanks guys. Plus, you never know who you'll see waiting in the check out line! more

A Seattle Landmark 4/14/2007

If Seattle ever looses this cherished landmark then send me down that river of change also for there will have to be another place I'd rather call home.An infinite number of "Home" Depots could never replace the culture, craft, and collectibles that hang in the air here. Like a resistant virus this family owned business has laughably avoided being swallowed up by the corporatocracy surrounding this gem in the U-District. Like a battery charger,a beacon in the shadows cast by development, this place remains, for woodworkers and others, a place of hope for humanity. We go there for quality tools, specialty hardware,or everyday used household items. Like a pilgrimage I like to return again and again for renewal. What is old fashioned service? What does it feel like to wander overstuffed narrow isles where one has to communicate with fellow shoppers to navigate the creaky wood floors that incline and descend? How fun is it to purchase things that don't have a bar code to scan? If the need arises, a memorable trip can be yours to the " one stall of repose" that lies tucked in the side of the store half a step from fellow customers. A mere 3/4 inches of plywood that hangs a foot off the floor " protects" your privacy and reminds that you'd better get back out there and not dally. Hardwicks offers an experience like music, that must be experienced live for full appreciation. more

If they don't have it, you don't need it!!! 1/29/2007

Hardwick's is a "destination" hardware store. I am a tool "freak" and they have tools I have never seen before, nor do I know they are for. This is an "old time" style store that is crammed to the rafters with just about anything you would ever want in the hardware line. Go to Hardwick's today and enjoy the experience. more

The Best Hardware Store I've Been In 9/14/2006

As a carpenter by trade I've been able to find the hard to find tools I need of good quality and often at or below the price of the big box stores. Well worth the trip, my uncle from Dublin loved it. They also had replacement glass drawer pulls for the kitchen cabinets in my 1918 house. Whatever you need just ask, they will help you out. Enjoy. more

Hardwick's 3/9/2006

If you haven't been to Hardwick's, you have not been to a hardware store. I don't know how these guys know where everything is, or even what they have in stock, since they have no inventory system! But, believe me, they know! It has overstuffed aisles with everthing you can ever need, and at very competitive prices. I don't know if they still do this, but they take great pride in their gift certificates. They, too, are not recorded, and each is a work of art -- literally drawn on a brown grocery size bag! And, definitely woman-friendly... more

Eclectic Hardwware Store 10/8/2005

Hardwick's, located in the University district on Roosevelt Avenue was a funky hardware store when I first discovered it many years ago. It became Hardwick's swap shop and now is just Hardwick's. It's a combination of good old fashioned hardware store, swap shop, and museum. You can find new and used power tools, hard to find hardware and a variety of stuff that's too numerous to name. It isn't very big, but they pack a lot of stuff in there. The aisles are pretty narrow. If you have a craftsman house or you just want a craftsman feel in your home, go here for your hardware. This is where I finally found the right hinges for my 1920's built in hutch. They have a lot of old and new items. if you need a Kansai saw for detailed wood work, go here, there have the best selection in town. more

Hardwicks 8/19/2005

This is an amazing store to visit even if you dont need anything. Probably seattles best hardware store. Admitedly they don't have the best prices around, so if you just need some paint rollers head off to home depot. But if you're okay with used tools, furniture or the occasional appliance youre at the right place. The thing that makes hardwicks great is that they have EVERYTHING. from hand-carving tools to hard to find sculpture supplies. basically if its wierd and you have no idea where to go get it, head to hardwicks, and if they dont have it, it doesnt exsist. more

Local Woodwooking Tools 7/21/2005

Hardwicks offers lots of tools for the home and garden. A general neighborhood hardware store, they offer the basic tools you’d need to fix anything but also specialize in woodworking tools. The store is jam packed with tools and supplies for almost everything. They have a great assortment of hand woodworking tools at good prices. I’ve often found items for much less then the chain woodworking stores or even Amazon. The staff is very knowledgeable and very helpful. They will get you the right tool for the job at hand as well as a little advice on how to do it. more

Excellent hardware store in U-District 3/16/2005

If you have ever gone to Home Depot or Lowe's and been disappointed with the selection, Hardwicks might be a good place to try. They have a great selection of tools (mostly higher end, professional quality). We bought lots of decorative hardware there, including new pulls and knobs for our remodeled kitchen and new brass window locks and pulls for the entire house. The selection for this type of hardware was much better than the big box stores and they carry some higher quality brands. If they don't have it they will order it and they are very good about following up with you. more
