Anna (mani/pedi) and Soodi (facials/waxing) are Great! 10/3/2010

I've been going to Hands to Hold in Encino for about 8 or 9 years. I used to get acrylics (not bad). Now I just go for manicures, pedicures, and facials. I only have Anna do my mani/pedi because she does everything the way it should be done (take note Peri2010. Anna will do right by you and if she's doing it all, there's no twisting and turning. Just make sure you make your appointment with Anna for both mani and pedi.). She does a perfect cleanup, scrubbing, and her massage is fantastic! I also get facials and waxing by Soodi. She is the best esthatician I have ever had do my facials. She is gentle, considerate, and has a wonderful sense of humor. I have only 2 complaints about this Hands to Hold store...there is official waiting area to sit and wait if the shop is very busy and all of the tables and chairs are in use. And the chairs they have available to sit on while drying fingernails and toenails are tall bar stool type chairs that are extremely difficult to climb up on. more

Extreme Poor Quality 8/6/2010

I live in Encino and was happy to find a salon I could help support in my zip code. I am a weekly manicure and pedicure. I gave this salon one month of business, and I have not been back for a mani/pedi. The staff is nice enough, not happy about spending extra for a ""spa"" chair, or the fact they put two technicians on you at the same time and you have to stretch and bend to make sure they can work on you. I am VERY tall and they do not accommodate for that at all. For the pedicure, they do not clean around *(under) your toes and when asked to do it, they repeat the same poor quality. They do not try and make your feet smooth, they went over four parts of my foot twice with a pumice rock. The massage went the same; less than 45 seconds on each foot and calf. My lotion was not rubbed in. When I asked the nail technician if they could rub in the lotion, it was more of the same another 12 seconds on each leg. For the manicure it went about the same. I got to reach over myself and be uncomfortable the entire time. I am a consumer who will seek, ask, and give feedback. In return you will get a customer who is on time, and knows how to tip. I went four times because I thought I needed to get with the right technician, but they have all leveled out at the same quality ""poor"" I look around and see a lot of the same going on at other stations. This shop needs a STRONG manager, and their team needs to improve on their motivation and quality skill-sets. As for consumers all we can do is tell everyone and hope the management takes it seriously. more

Poor service for over-priced manicure 6/25/2010

The place looks great and like you will be treated nicely, the even say they give you your own box (which is re-used from someone elses) but you get there even if your a long time customer they dont even acknowledge your there and when they do they get mad at you for being 5 minutes late. AWFUL PLACE never going back! Pros: They have OPI nailpolish Cons: They are not only rude, but talk back to the customer more

Soodi, the Estatician, is the ONLY reason I go!!! 7/22/2009

Soodi not only does the best eyebrows I've ever gotten, but she does the best waxing, too! She is funny, inviting and very professional. Now that I've found her, I'll follow her where ever she goes! Pros: Soodi is the best Estatician I've ever been to! Cons: The salon is not a big deal at all. more

poor quality at a high price 5/21/2009

I have been here exactly two times and it will remain that way. I thought my first time might have been a fluke with the rude ladies at the front desk (I was completely ignored, not even glanced at) to the lack of attention to detail with my acrylic fill. The shapes of each of the nails did not match, and at the end of the fill the guy who was doing my nails, Joseph, pushed my cuticles back and said ""okay, done!"" Why he didn't do the cuticles before he put the acrylic gel is beyond me. The second time I went back for the exact same thing as the first time: a pink and white fill. The first time I was charged $22 and the second time $35. They did the EXACT same thing but charged me more the 2nd time. I got there a half hour early for my 2nd appointment and sat for an hour because Danny was not ready until 30 minutes after my appointment. He then broke the skin on two nails (which are still sore a 3 days later) and the white portion was not centered on some of my nails. I had somewhere to be so I didn't have time for him to redo all my nails, so I paid the $35 and left, never to return again. more

This is a nail sweat shop! 12/7/2008

The 2 owners do not know how to treat their employees. All of the nail technicians are Vietnamese, and the owners take advantage of them and treat them like servants. I don't think they make minimum wage, aren't given lunch and regular breaks and expect them to put up with a demanding clientle. Do not patronize either of these locations. more

Looks nice, that's about it. 6/23/2008

When I saw this salon I thought for sure I was going to get the best treatment and service. The first time I went was an ok experience, nothing too dissapointing. Didnt offer me a drink, but I got over it. The second time I went was the last. I walked in, only to stand at the counter for about 5 mins before anyone even acknowledged me, this being 5, 6, 7 girls standing there either on the computer, talking to eachother, helping other customers, etc. I don't expect to be waited on hand and foot, but a nice Hello at the door is expected. After that, I sat to get my mani and pedi by 2 people who didnt say one word to me. I asked how they were, I got nothing. At that point I was getting irritated because I am a nice person who tips very well. I am young and tattooed and I don't know if that caused them to believe I am not capable of tipping, but whenever the reason may be, they got themselves one less customer. My mani and pedi were great, but leaving was the same deal. Stood there for who knows how long while they chatted up a storm. So rude. I definetely don't recoment this place to ANYONE! Pros: Looks nice, clean. Cons: Rude staff. more

Hands To Hold Nail Salon 5/27/2007

Hands to Hold is a good place to go if you want to be assured of hygenic safety as they provide each customer with their own set of tools. However, as for the service itself, it's very average with nothing out of the ordinary. I have received several manicures and pedicures there and the polish always chips within a week. I don't even have long nails, no nails in fact. Depending on who you get, you may get a a fair, or a not-so- good-mini massage for your hands or feet. Usually, it's not-so-good. You have the option of receiving extra minutes for massage that will cost you $1.00 per minute. But these people are not massage therapists and will provide a below par massage, especially with the extra minutes you pay for. It's as if they are just going through the motions trying to get it over with as fast as possible. The pressure is so light and the speed is fast that it does not relax you. I would suggest saving your extra money and head over to Whole Foods or some other place where you can be assured of receiving a good massage by a licensed therapist for a reasonable price. Overall, they are on the pricey side especially for the lack of quality you will receive. Pros: Own tools for safe use and hygiene, offer you beverages Cons: Over priced, low quality, very busy, more

Hand to Hold - Pricey 4/7/2007

I would have given this nail salon a higher rating except for one thing... the price. They're VERY busy, so it's a good idea to call ahead for an appointment -- they give each client a box of their very own nail tools which are not used on anyone else, and they clean and disinfect them after every use, and keep them in a huge wall of filed boxes to make sure you always get your tools. I like that, as I have suffered from nail fungus issues from other salons. It's a little bit impersonal and there are SO many nail stations that you never know who you're going to get, although if you like a certain tech you can request them. I was very happy with the quality of work and my manicure and pedicure looked great for two whole weeks. My only real complaint was the cost -- they charge an average of 20-30% more than the smaller salons in the area. Pros: Personal tools for each client Cons: Too busy, expensive more
