Great View! 3/10/2008

I wish I frequented Half Moon Bay more because if I did I would come back to this place! They had great food and the setting inside is like a rustic old boat, complete with fish tanks. If the weather permits (which you never really know in HMB) the outside seating is nice because the restaurant sits across the street from the beach and will give a great view of the sunset.\r \r I also liked that the crowd ranged from families to mid 20-somethings without seeming stuffy.\r \r This place should definitely be checked out if you are in the area! more

Highly Recommended 3/2/2008

Great restaurant - both the location and food! Beautiful views all around and fabulous food! I had asked the waiter what he would recommend and he said the Ahi Tuna. After he explained what the Pan Seared Ahi Tuna was, I made a face, because I do not eat sushi. He told me that I should try it. Well, he was right! It was delicious! My husband and I were fighting over it! Now, every time we see Ahi Tuna on a menu, we order it! more

Half Moon Bay Brwing Company 2/22/2008

This is a great restaurant for an early evening, sunset watch. We like to drink their special beers while sitting around the fire pit out front. They have a great view of the harbor and the sunset.Food is excellent as well. I love the shrimp tostatos. Live music almost nightly as well. This is a very relaxed laid back restaurant, great for a family lunch with the kids, drinks and appetizers with friends, or a romantic dinner for two. more

Great place Amazing customer service 2/18/2008

I happened to be sitting at the table next to the couple who left there "expensive" cell phone. I 'am regular and love this place. If you go in a friendly mood you'll get great service. That night when the couple came back looking for there phone the entire staff helped her look for it. There was only so many places to look, and the hostess even tried calling it for them. The waitress whom had a full section of beer hungry bar tables, like myself, even took the time to look all around. It lame that you loss your phone, but try and hold on to it. After all it is your responsibility. Pros: Hot servers, local brewing company, nice location Cons: when it's busy try to make a reservation. it's a popular resturant. more

Horrible, Unfriendly, Dishonest 2/1/2008

My boyfriend and I decided to go to one of our favorite restaurants in Half Moon Bay a few weeks ago, the Half Moon Bay Brewery, for a beer and an appetizer. We had a great meal, and even filled out a comment card with great reviews afterwards. We then left the restaurant to drive back home to Pacifica, when my boyfriend realized he had forgotten his (expensive) cell phone on the table. We called immediately, less than ten minutes after leaving the restaurant, and the hostess told us nothing was found. We returned no more than fifteen minutes after first leaving the restaurant to take a look around ourselves, but saw nothing. With absolutely no help or understanding from any of the employees, we were absolutely shocked on how horrible the customer service was - they were just sitting there, watching us look around, without any offers to help. Having known for a fact that he had left it right behind the menu on our table, we know that one of the employees had to have taken it. In the following days, we had left many messages for the owner, without response. I just wanted to write this because I was so upset with how the whole situation was handled, and how disappointed I was with the customer service at the Half Moon Bay Brewery. We will not be returning, because we would like to take our business to a more honest and deserving restaurant. Extremely disappointed, and would not recommend to anyone Cons: everything more

Great beer, harbor views but average fare 1/30/2008

Highly recommend 'Mavericks' and their pale ale; love the outdoor seating on sunny days and the views on the harbor. I bring guests w/ kids here all the time. Beer batter fish 'n chips is usually decent though sometimes a bit on the greasy side -- therefore, hit or miss. Desserts are mediocre and not imaginative -- but what do you expect from a brewing company? Went to see saxophonist Sonia Jason play there one night. Great bar atmosphere and a local favorite. more

Hottest Staff I've ever seen!!! 4/5/2007

Great food, great views, great service. Steve and Mark were are friendly bartenders and they were both very helpful and friendly. Not to mention both very hot!!! Which always makes good beer taste better. Beer is great, we met the brewmaster and he is also very friendly. Food was yummy and came pretty fast. We went on a Friday night, looked pretty busy but we found a fun seat at the bar. Band was already playing and people were already dancing. We had so much fun! I left happy with sweet sweet dreams of Mark the hot bartenders face, I'd come back for that alone!! Mark I love you!!!!!! PS just not the beer talking Pros: Mark, ohhh sweet Mark Cons: Other girls flirting with him too :( more

Why bother? 5/12/2006

We went three times, each time the service was very bad. Talked with manager on third time - had an attitude and basically didn't care. OK beer, a bit spendy, don't think they'll ever try to improve. Pros: View Cons: Service, Management attitude more

Terrible!!! 7/18/2004

We wnet to dinner with friends. The service was poor and so was the food. We ordered Bar-B-Q ribs and could not knaw the meat off the bone they were so dried out. We brought them home to the dogs and they had a hard time eating them as well. The salad was wilted and the beer was warm and flat. Quite expensive. Won't go there again. Pros: the view Cons: , almost everything more

Snotty service, closes early 11/10/2003

Having heard good things about this restaurant, I wanted to try them out one evening. I consulted their website for their hours (which stated "open daily 11:30-10pm"), got there shortly after 9pm, only to be greeted by a "closed" sign. Went in to ask, and was greeted by a snotty host who repeated that they were closed and acted hostile when I pointed out that their website stated that they were open until 10pm. He promptly turned his back on me and returned to the kitchen. To be fair to other people's ratings, I haven't tried their food. But I won't ever go back to try it--there is absolutely no kind of excuse for this rude service (and I drove 1/2 hr to get there!). I returned to my neighborhood bar in SF, Liverpool Lil's, that serves good food until midnight or 1am every day with competent and friendly service. Cons: Closes at 9pm, Snotty service, Closes at 9pm more

Went again last night. . . 8/17/2003

Upon my return to this down-home, friendly and comfortable establishment, I was just as pleased as I was the first time. This time we ended up sitting at the bar and having dinner--we've never done that before. It was a real treat, as was Steve, the Bartender. Definitely a "10" on the "Yummy-Scale" all around. Steve--in case you read this--my phone number is 555-1234. Pros: Good Food, Friendly Atmosphere, (sigh) Steve Cons: humph!?, humph!?, humph!? more

Keep Things Simple 2/18/2003

Although the menu is a bit ambitious, if you stay with the simple choices like hamburgers, salads, and sandwiches, you can get a pretty decent meal. The items are priced on the high side, but I guess you're paying for the ambience as well. Service is often hit or miss - miss if it's a busy night. Pros: Nice view, Free parking Cons: Service issues more

No Help with Reservations 2/13/2003

I live in Half Moon Bay and go to this restaurant frequently as well as refer and bring all of my out of town guests here. I was AMAZED when I tried to make a reservation for a party of 17 that I was told they couldn't take us on a Saturday during the winter season, as they don't accept reservations for groups over 12. I was willing to even take two tables but they couldn't guarantee they would be seated in the same room, how could you do that if you are celebrating a birthday? I am amazed that they would turn away assured revenue from 17 people and can honestly say I will never go here again because of their service and will tell everyone I know the same! Cons: reservations more

Music and dancing with an ocean view 9/5/2002

The brewing company is my favorite place to hang out on Sunday afternoons. There's always a band (free) from 4-8pm , usually Blues or Latin. The atmosphere is like a "wedding reception" with a fun crowd of adults (and a few children) dancing to the music or just chilling out in the patio or bar. Great music, relaxed atmosphere, very good micro-brewed beer, all with a view of Pillar Point Harbor and the Pacific ! doesn't get any better, especially with the beautiful Fall weather that's coming up. Pros: Great parking(free), Terrific ocean views, Fire pits on the pati more

Favorite Place on the Penninsula 8/8/2002

What can I say. I discovered this place about a year and a half ago and have been charmed ever since. One of the few places that you can catch a seat and a drink overlooking the water and not be crowded or broke. Drive is a bit long (i.e. bring a designated driver), but the dog-friendly atmosphese, decents staff, and great food make it worthwhile. The Sandy Blonde may be one of CAs great beers, and the garlic cheese fies are not to miss. Top it off with one of the best medium priced steaks I've experiences and you can't go wrong. I bring everyone I know here. Pros: distance to drive, can be crowded Cons: great portch, dog friendly, live music more

Yummy Eats 8/7/2002

Outdoor Fun 6/23/2002

Great patio with heaters and firepits. Sunday afternoon music rocks. Beers quite good - especially Mavericks. Pros: patio, beer, music Cons: dinner menu more
