We were worried about our Doberman, it was his first boarding experience. Sir Mac isn't use to being around other dogs. After his first visit, he was all tuckered out from the exercise he was able to get, without being around other dogs. We decided to observe his behavior the second time. Would he plant his feet and refuse to go inside? Nope, not at all, just the opposite. Not only was he excited to be there, the staff remembered his code commands. He actually ran to his lodging area! The staff really loves animals. They play with them, let them run in a safe area, feed them on a schedule, and really get to know them. Our next trip out of town will be for the birth of our grandbaby. They are on stand-by, no reservation, since you never know when a baby will come. Mac, husband, and I are so blessed to have found Hairy Moose! OH, and they have outdoor runs. That's hard to find around Nashville, TN. Thank you Hairy Moose, Not your average bed and biskit :) more

We have boarded our 2 boxers here several times. The staff has ALWAYS been friendly and welcoming. We bring our own dog food and they have distributed it correctly every time. It is loud when you bring your dogs in, as one man stated above, but that's what dogs do. That would be like walking into a nursery and expecting babies not to cry. Anyway, in October of 2013, my husband's father passed away so we boarded our dogs to travel out of town, and when we returned to pick them up, the staff told us there was no charge for boarding since we were going to a bereavement!!! We were shocked. Our dogs were bathed, teeth brushed, nails trimmed and everything for free. The owners are great people who love dogs.....and their owners!! I would recommend this place to anyone! more

When I walked in the front door, the smell of dog waste hit me like a wall of bricks. It was disgusting. It looked like the food in the front room had been urinated on by a dog. I waited about 10-15 minutes to be helped. When I finally got someone to help me, it seemed like they had no idea on how to check my dog in or anything, so I had to wait another 5-8 minutes for them to get a ""experienced kennel worker"". They finally checked my dog in and took him back. But when they took him back I noticed dogs loose everywhere and heard the workers yelling at them to""get back"" and ""no!"". I understand having one or two dogs loose but they had at least 5 dogs out and they were all barking at my dog, making him more nervous then he already was. I told them I would be back, because I wanted to run across the street and grab my dog some food. So I came back and dropped off the food, a very small bag of some cheap Kroger brand. It was only for a night so I already figured he wouldn't eat, but I wanted to give him the option of clean food that hadn't been urinated on. They took it and said we will make sure he gets this. I came back to pick him up the next day and they brought my dog to me, he was shaking, dogs were loose everywhere again barking at him as he left. They brought me the bag of food I left for him, it was wet. I paid what I owed and ran out of there. I smelled the bag of food and it smelled like urine. If you love your dog and want them to be well taken care of with decent customer service then this is not the place. I wouldn't trust them with my hamster.I would not use them if they were the only boarding kennel within 50 miles of me. more

This place is great. My dogs always come home exhausted from a day of playing. The hours are perfect for me and the crazy person below complains about everything (read his other reviews). You just can't please some people and that person is one of them. All business's have hours and theirs are perfect for people who work ""normal"" hours. I can drop my dogs off at 7am and pick them up as late as 6 and sometimes they will even stay late for me if I need them to. If you need a great place to board check them out during their OPEN hours. more

Not available during regular business hours! 7/13/2011

Stopped by today to try and preview this location for our pet. The front gate was closed at 2:20 pm on a Wednesday. Another car pulled in after us, so we were forced to continue forward towards the closed gate. We called the phone number on the gate sign and after the woman said hello, I said ""You have two customers waiting at your front gate"". She said: ""What do you want?"" I replied ""We would like to meet with someone about using your services."" She replied we are closed we will be open at 3:30 or 4 pm. At no time during this brief conversation did she apologize or sound friendly. So we had to turn around and left. We went to another nearby pet resort and they not only had their hours CLEARLY posted, they willingly gave us a tour of their facility. **Note: This is not the first time we have been by this facility. We have seen the gate closed so many times we just thought they did it to keep the animals out, so if you want easy access to your pet then beware!"" more

My dog's favorite "Home away from home." 6/23/2009

This is by far my baby's favorite place to be when we have to kennel her. The staff is very caring and friendly. All of the animals appear to be very happy when they are there! The kennels are indoor / outdoor and quite large, even the regular runs. more

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful!! 4/13/2009

The Hairy Moose Pet Retreat is a wonderful place and my Golden Retriever loves to go there! Prisi, Annette, Lisa, and everyone else there knows my dog (Shea...and now Bella, too) by name and they have a warm welcome for him every day when I pull up to drop him off for day care. We have lived in a small apartment for 3 years and we both commute quite a distance and could not bare to leave our beloved Shea home for 12+ hours per day. They offer a wonderful day care service for dogs where they get to play and nap as they please. It has been a true blessing for our family. We have recently purchased a home with a fence and we also just last week adopted a sweet little Golden puppy (Bella) from them to keep Shea company in our new backyard. Bottom line- you cannot find a group of people that care about dogs more than the folks at Hairy Moose Pet Retreat. Shea loves seeing them in the morning when I drop him off as much as he loves seeing me in the afternoon when I pick him up! Pros: Great place with great, caring people!!! more

Good boarding for dogs. 4/12/2008

Good boarding kennel with a caring staff. Dogs get indoor/outdoor kennels and outside playtime or walks if requested (walks extra $). Be sure to book early before holidays as they fill up quickly. The only negatives are that the dogs can see their next door neighbors and this makes for lots of barking back and forth. Last time my dogs were in this kennel they were next to a pack of Jack Russel's. My dogs were pretty hoarse when I picked them up. more

Incredible care for dog and its owner! 7/26/2007

We moved to Nashville in 2004 and toured a bunch of kennels in town. They were all pretty unimpressive, both the facilities and the people working. We had a trip coming up quickly, so we settled on taking our lab to a ""different"" kind of kennel in West Nashville that charged a ton, I guess because the dogs each got a TV(?!) and mattress in their completely-enclosed cells. Pros: Employees' care for pet and owner, Facilities Cons: Distance would be it but it's well worth it more
