Okay selection, awful service 7/9/2009

It's ironic that this place should be in the capital of ""peace and love"" because the guys working in this store are about the farthest thing from peaceful and loving you will find. The first thing that you will notice is that despite its indy look, this store has no interest in the casual guitarist, or even the professional guitarist. Their smiles only light up when they sense big bucks. Otherwise, you can't lay a finger on a single guitar. If you happen to give these guys the impression that you do have money, good luck trying more than two or three guitars before they get angry and start making attempts to get you out of the store. Besides the plutocratic nature of the store, you get the impression that all of the guys in the store think they're better than you. Even if that's true, it's not a warm environment. To all small business owners, look to this shop as an example of how not to treat paying customers. Pros: Decent Selection, variety of instruments Cons: Arrogant service, as well as restriction more

Horrible Treatment/Service 7/10/2008

I went to Haight Ashbury Music the other day for a ""Customer Appreciation"" sale (note the hypocrisy in this sale confirmed in the text below) and had horrible service from one of their employees (let's call him ""Short Blonde Guy with Red Bandana At Counter with Attitude""). After talking to the Gibson rep there, who was a really nice guy, I was considering about purchasing a Gibson Robot SG guitar and some other things from thestore. While making my mind up about it, I checked out some guitar pedals. I really like a particular brand's equipment and do have a good friend who works for them but still like supporting my local stores even though I would pay more than getting what might be closer to cost price through my friend contact.\r \r Anyway, so I notice there are 2 of these pedals there that I was interested so I asked what the price was. This Ibanez rep helped me but didn't know what the price was so he asked Short Blonde Guy with Red Bandana At Counter with Attitude. I believe the price was $136 each but Short Blonde Guy with Red Bandana At Counter with Attitude said he would sell them to me for $118 each. I was actually considering buying them but thought I would ask if I could get a little better discount if I bought them both. The Ibanez rep asked the owner and while he was thinking about it, Short Blonde Guy with Red Bandana At Counter with Attitude came buy with a horrible attitude and said that that was the price. If he hadn't had the attitude, I probably would have bought them but I put them back and said no thanks. The Ibanez rep said it was a great deal but I let him know that I know someone at the pedal's manufacturer and might be able to get them near cost where Short Blonde Guy with Red Bandana At Counter with Attitude then said ""What a waste of time"" with a p*ssed off look on his face.\r \r He then told me to ""get the f*ck out of the store with my attitude"". So I left and took the $4000 I was going to spend on the guitar with me. Pros: Local Cons: Horrible Service more

Rude, Arrogant and not worth even a first look 4/14/2007

I've been to music stores all over America, Canada and Europe. This is the worst one I've ever seen. The neighborhood is terrible. There's no parking and little public transit here. \r \r The minute you walk in you're attacked by signs everywhere saying not to touch anything. It's an extremely hostile and un-friendly environment and In my Constitutionally - protected opinion, the staff is inattentive, rude, arrogant and downright nasty.\r \r I went into this shop with a pocket full of cash and left 15 minutes later to go somewhere else to buy my guitar. I would suggest mail order or ANY other music store as a first alternative to this place. Cons: Rude staff more

Editorial

  • It may not be the cheapest music shop in the city, but what Haight Ashbury Music Center lacks in bargains it makes up for with a huge selection of musicians' necessities, be they guitar strings...
