An incredibly positive experience 9/1/2008

I was having issues regarding nightmares for 4 years after the caregiving and death of my mother. I had sought professional help before, but wasn't having much luck. I literally found her out of my benefits booklet, and it was the best decision I ever made. After 6 weeks, I don't have nightmares anymore. I knew the nightmares would end, but I thought it would take much longer. I found her easy to talk to. She has a lot of experience in therapy, but also has a lot of experience personally, so she can attack a situation like this from many different angles- ie a clinical angle, a personal angles, and a medical angle. I found her questions very helpful and her observations to be tactful, without being coddling or attacking. She was just fantastic at making me see the big picture. Pros: has extremely in depth knowledge for caregivers more

Poor Relationship Counseling - Biased Against Men 7/9/2008

If you are seeking help with relationship problems, don't go here! I went to her for individual counseling related to issues with my then boyfriend. She was of no help. She did not offer constructive ideas to help me or help the situation. In fact, I felt she was a man-hater (and at a minimum, highly biased) and came across as rather bitter. She seemed to act professionally, listening to the things I had to say, but it later seemed to turn into what could almost be considered a gossip/venting session that you would have with your girlfriends. \r \r She basically told me I needed to dump my then boyfriend of 7+ years. No other advice or suggestions. It might sound like she was just ""telling it how it is"" , but it didn't come off that way. I can understand the concept of getting out of a relationship asap if it is physically abusive/dangerous, but that was not at all the case here. Plus, she didn't care whether *I* wanted to save the relationship or just let it go. I think a good counselor will work with you to help you acheive your goals, or at least help you realize what the problem is and why you should let go. Any helpful or constructive advice would have been appreciated, but it wasn't found here.\r \r Overall, I would not suggest seeking her advice for relationships. She might be a really good counselor for other problems (substance abuse, child psych, etc.), but I felt she wasn't worth my time for the issues I was faced with. Cons: doesn't offer helpful advice/suggestions, biased toward men more
