I used to go to Gus' when he was located downtown but then found that he wasn't there anymore. :( Its been years since I've had his chips and salsa and shredded beef enchilada plate. It wasn't until recently that I heard he was in Franklin. (Saw him on ""Outrageous Foods"") I live in Shorewood and made my way over to Gus' immediately! I, unlike you crazies writing ill informed reviews below, love his food. Its not like that bland ""MEXICANT"" food and margaritas on the the south side. Gus' margaritas have way more kick! Enchilada Plate the same as I remembered: DELICIOUS! His gravy is like no other. Oh and the rice! To die for. Seriously! I even took a side of rice, Chicken Quesadillas, salsa and chips home for the wife. She missed it too! Anywho, the new place is huge! Real clean too. And yes, finally some easy parking. I had great service. Food was quick and I couldn't be happier. More affordable then I remember. Gus, I'm glad you're still cooking it up! I'll be back with the wife real soon to hit up that Happy Hour! more

Great food and impeccable customer service. Abundance of menu options, all of which are cooked fresh and come out HOT!! Margaritas are the best around and are very affordable. THIS APPLIES TO THE FRANKLIN SITE .....I cannot believe this place received any good press. It is the absolute worst food I have ever had. Ordered the steak fajitas. At $27.95 , they were certainly the most expensive I have ever ordered (ANYWHERE) The steak was sparse, was of poor quality with soggy peppers, onions and tomatoes, and get this, had cheese on it! NEWS FLASH ....eh, ""Senor"" Gus?, fajitas do not have cheese ""sauce"" (Velveeta?"") on them! Another guest of mine ordered the steak torta (a Mexican sandwich) as you can surpimise from above, disappointing is putting it mildly. The guacamole ordered as an appetizer was tastless because the avocado was not ripe. In all, this is an insult to really good Mexican Food in the area. DO NOT waste your hard earned money or time on this place. Oh and did I mention,? We were also OVERCHARGED. When I brought it up to the waiter, he got the old ""deer in the headlights look"" and sent me to the owner, (GUS?) who could not be found. I waited and waited and waited..... then left. While driving away, It dawned upon me......perhaps GUS was out getting more Veveeta cheese sauce to drench his culinary creations with?....What a FRAUD!!! more

We were seated right away on a friday night. Our server was very polite and was very welcoming. The chips and salsa was very tasty. the food came out right away and looked amazing and also tasted amazing. Overall my family and i loved the place and we will be back. If your looking to be cheated on your bill, yelled at by the owner, kicked out of building for merely questioning the bill, then Gus's Mexican Cantina is the place for you! After being overcharged and simply inquiring about the cost, Gus proceeded to mock me, laugh at me and walk away. When I asked for my money back, he did more of the same THROWING my money back at me demanding that I leave. Are you for real!! I cannot believe an owner of a business would treat a first time customer that way when they were clearly in the wrong for overcharging me! Please do not go to this place if you are weak of heart, they not only treat their customers like dirt, but after reading several reviews all over the internet they treat their employees like dirt too, shame on you Gus! Worst Mexican Food Ever 4/13/2008

After waiting months for this restaurant to open in Franklin, I can see it from my condo, I finally went last Friday. I always order Chimichancas. $17.75? Ridiculous. I then ordered the burrito special instead. The rice was mushy and it tasted like they took corn bread and ground it to look like rice. Was there shredded beef? I said I wanted beef and I got ground beef with hardly no taste. The beans were nothing but pork and beans, not refried beans. I can tell the difference. I don't know what all the hoopla was about insofar as the other restaurant on the east side goes. I love Mexican food but after this experience I will never go back. more

Save Your Money and Time 3/27/2008

We waited for what seems like forever for Gus"" in Franklin to open. What a disappointment!! It was so loud we felt like we were in a cafeteria. The prices were way out of line for what you get. $11.95 for 3 tacos and rice and beans (the rice was awful, tasted like right out of the box with no seasoning). The waitress got my order wrong and when I informed the waiter that I didnt get my rice and beans he said my order didnt come with them, I said to check and he did and said sorry he was wrong and brought me some, then the waitress came back and said oh, so you wanted a side of rice and beans.... ha ha, and she was going to charge me for them until we explained again that my order came with them. Oh MY God!! At least Gus could introduce the menu to his employees before he sets them loose on the public. I cant see this place lasting very long, maybe 3-4 months, until everyone has at least tried them once, because once is all any with any taste will ever go there. We will definitly not go back, WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!! And the food by the way, is not at all authentic. Is Gus even Mexican??? Or if he is maybe he has been in the US way to long to remember what Mexican food tastes like. Pros: It finally opened!! Cons: What a disappointment more

as for knowing the facts, you are in no place to challenge my expertise about the inner workings and lack of employee moral throughout the establishment. you just eat your free quesadilla and save your obvious bias for something you have a clue about. which from your typing skills and lack of grammar, i can see its not much. when family members refer to it as ""hell on earth"" upon walking in the door, that says volumes more than that crossword puzzle you call a review. better off at taco bell... part 1 3/17/2008

honestly, i never ate at gus' except the franklins' opening employee dinner, but i did just quit there. for nine days, i gave 100% to that restaurant. i never signed up for 6 days a week, nor did i expect the chaos that would ensue upon applying. although i shouldve known the first friday when a waitress walked out leaving us short staffed that evening. our waiting staff stuck together and made the best of it, giving gus an appropriate showing. not that it was expected, but when youre short staffed and your employees make you look good under such circumstances.... where which you have to turn customers away due to because you cant fit anymore people, youd at least applaud the effort, some sort of appreciation. not this guy. fast forward to the following friday. i was doing very well thusfar. my only complaints the week prior were one table walking out that friday due to lack of service. the other was a misunderstanding about a margarita cost and a lack of training on pricing which i remedied out of my own pocket. not too bad for someone with no experience. anyways, friday comes and one of the servers called in sick, leaving me and gus' son to pick up the extra tables. my section on friday went from 7 tables to 11 and, if youre familiar with gus' on a friday night and waiting on a friday in general, 7 tables is not an easy task, let alone 11. we both did poorly, we both were lost messing up orders, constantly looking at each other with confusion and fatigue. unfortunately though, i was the only one subjected to gus' berating. my poor performance was not out of a lack of effort, i was simply given too much to do. instead of seeing im overwhelmed and assisting or even being mildly satisifed by the effort, i was an idiot, incompetent and reprimanded in public for not telling the host i couldnt take anymore tables when after going in back to get sodas, i had 4 more tables filled. where was my chance to see im overwhelmed, not to mention the host foresight to see i was?
