Not worth it for a cheap haircut 11/25/2006

I usually go to Gene Juarez beauty school for my hair services, but needed a quick haircut and Greenwood Academy was close. I went on a Friday morning and most of the students did not have clients, so they were sitting around talking. The girl I had cutting my hair was 17 and complained the whole time about the lack of respect she receives from other students. She texted(!!!) the whole time she cut my hair. Her instructor checked out my haircut and she received a passing grade. My haircut was fine, the final straw was when my stylist told me she didn't feel like drying my hair. I told the front desk person about my experience and the response I received was "she had a late night last night, shes not usually like that". That was it. The overall quality of the academy is much lower than that of Gene Juarez. more

Good Deal for the Price 10/29/2006

I have had my hair cut three times and highlights put in once at Greenwood. The prices just can't be beat. $10 for a cut and the whole highlighting was about $40. Of course, these are students--so there can be uneven results; but that is what education is all about and you are giving the next generation a chance to learn. These aren't perfect cuts, but for the price it's great. What I really appreciate is that an instructor checks each cut and makes corrections--so you never go THAT far wrong. I would advise that you be clear about what you want. These are often young learners who don't yet know everything it will take to make you look your best. But they all seem very eager to learn. more

shifty 7/1/2006

I have been going to GA for cuts and coloring for about 2 years, THe prices and service have always been amazing until the good hairstylist I had found there graduated, this meant Id have to find someone else I truly enjoyed and was good with my hair. This led to me finding someone I really didn't enjoy, 3 times in a row, and the last one absolutely butchered my hair. This is when I decided that I was sick of a different person every time I went in, not knowing exactly what they were going to do, like the last time when I asked for side bangs with a side part right below my eyebrows and ended up with straight bangs with really no defined part, oh and they were at least an inch shorter then they should have been. I was in to much of a shock when I saw them to ask her to fix anything, I do not think I will be going back, but if your into taking a risk with your hair go right ahead. more

Fun place to go as a client or a student! 7/1/2006

I actually attended Greenwood Academy as an Esthetics student and loved my time there. Many colorful and creative students, great prices and watchful instructors. I never got my hair done there although my daughter did and it looked really good. I have received many facials from fellow students at the school and most of them were fabulous...keep an eye out for Justin, Kelsey, Margie and up and comers with tons of talent! more

cheapest haircut around 10/19/2005

all month the greenwood academy of hair in greenwood is having specials. this thursday, and next tuesday you can book a hair cut for $5.95!! the services are all performed by students, yes students, but the seniors are on the verge of graduating, therefor have more experience, and ar only a couple of dollars more. services include hair cuts, color, perms, manicures, pedicures, facial, etc... why not set aside a day just to pamper yourself!? more

Haircuts, perms, manicures, peds, etc. 9/17/2005

Give yourself a treat by getting a manicure or pedicure done. Yes these are not professionals, they are students, but they do a superb job. I myself have been going there for many years and they have never messed up on my hair. They usually have a professional teacher check on what they are doing and approving before you pay. They prices of course are cheap, you can get a pedicure for about $10-$15 and a cut for the same. Their highlights are only $35! more

Hair Cuts 9/5/2005

A great place to go get your hair cut is at the Greenwood Academy Of Hair. It's in Greenwood area on 85th. The people who work there are very kind and helpful and did I mention they give great advice. You will leave that store with a famous hair style yet a wallet still full of cash. Basically, I am trying to say that their prices are great and hard to beat. They also recommend greta hair products depending on the type of hair you have (wavy, straight, ect). Try it out and tell me what you think! more

Aveda Training 8/20/2005

Greenwood Academy of Hair is a training center for future Aveda stylists and beauty specialists (including colorists, massueses, manicure/pedicure, etc). It is inexpensive and practical. It isn't difficult to get an appointment. Students perform the services under strict supervision from instructors. I found that the students do an extra-special job of listening to what YOU the customer wants because although they may be confident in their skills, they don't want to mess up your 'do. Thus, it can take a long time while they snip snip away your hairy hair. There is also a lot of commotion in the shop. One factor that may play into your decision on whether or not to make an appointment is that the stylists do eventually graduate - so you'll have to find a new recruit! more

Cheap haircuts / good waxes 8/17/2005

When I lived in Greenwood, I would walk to this beauty school for quick trims and waxes. I did not go there if I needed a major haircut or wanted a style change. It may have turned out fine if I had, but I prefer to be cautious. Sometimes a student will take a great deal of time with just a trim, but they are learning, so this is to be expected. It is hard to beat a $10 haircut. The waxing prices aren't as big of a bargain, but they do a great job and use the Aveda waxes. more

Cheap and good haircuts/highlights and pedicures... 7/20/2005

Looking for a good and cheap place to get your hair done? Greenwood Academy of Hair might be an academy, but the students do a wonderful job. They are all supervised by an expert instructor when you go in there you get to choose whether you want a junior or a senior student to work on your hair. If you choose a senior, they usually have more experience than the junior so they do a better job. Their haircuts are only about $12 (by a senior, $10 by a junior) and highlights are only about $35. Every time that I have gone there, they did a tremendous job with my hair. They also offer manicures, pedicures, skin care, and spa services. Go on in and see what you think. more

Give this training school a shot! 7/7/2005

The Greenwood Academy of Hair actually offers a wide array of beauty services. The stylists are cosmetology students. For this reason I was a bit leary to try it out, but after passing the salon on the bus a million times, I decided to give it a try! I had a haircut and was rather impressed, it was one of the best haircuts I've ever had, and it was about $10! Sadly, I don't remember the student's name or else I'd be a client of hers. They often have specials and definitely book ahead, the cheap prices and surprisingly good quality means that you might not be able to call in for an appointment on the same day. more

Cheap enough to pamper yourself 6/9/2005

The Greenwood Academy is such a mix of people and ages and styles and skills that you could sit there all day and watch the human parade go by. Which is a good thing, because almost any service takes two or three times longer than at a normal salon. But give 'em credit. They're students. They're learning this craft of making beauty where beauty may be very hard to come by. And most of the time they do a good job. Sometimes, they do a *very* good job. And the prices are fantastic. So if you really, really, want your hair color and cut to be flawless, don't have it done here. But if you're willing to take the gamble and you've got some time to spare, you'll definitely leave with change in your pocket and you'll likely be happy with the job your local student performed. more
