Tokyo-Italian Food -- Quite the Mix! 7/30/2009

Great Food, Great Service, Great Bathroom. I have been to the Greenwich Grill many times now and am always amazed by the quality of the food. The Ceviche and Fish Carpaccio used fish much tastier and fresher than I've had at other restaurants. Not to mention that the Soy-Ginger dressing on the Fish Carpaccio is worthy of existing somewhere up in Heaven. The Bagna Cauda (veggies w/ a hot anchovy-oil bath to dip them in) and the Beef Carpaccio appetizers are also amaaaazing. All of the pastas I've had, most notably the Zuwai Crab and Bottarga Spaghettini and the Thai Green Curry Fettuchine, were delicious and cooked a perfect al dente. Gnocchi was also excellent, and I heard from one of the waiters that the popular Sea Urchin and Clam Spaghettini (Uni Vongole for people familiar w/ Italian food in Japan) will be making its way back onto the menu in the first week of August! The Ribeye Steak and Grilled Kurobuta Pork were both great (ask for both sauces!), but the Roasted Chicken Entree is to die for. It's super juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Just perfect. The last time I went we even ordered a few pieces of excellent sushi from the Sushi Azabu restaurant downstairs! One other cool thing about the restaurant is the great corner tables (I think there are 3 available?), which are really good for a romantic date. You basically are sitting next to each other instead of across from each other. Definitely worth checking out. I also like how there are 3 round tables available in the Lounge/Bar area. I like the dynamic of a round table when I have a larger group (3-5 people), as this is what I grew up with at home. Much better for conversations than with square tables, I swear. Oh, and they even have a great bathroom! Sabon soap and a Japanese toilet with heated seat and power wash! Amazing! Now I need to go back again for that $18 lunch special (appetizer/pasta/dessert/coffee or tea). What a steal! Come to think of it, that Japanese Curry and that Wagyu Burger from the lunch menu are also both calling to me... mmmm..... Pros: pastas, desserts, & bathroom! Cons: sometimes the music isn't loud enough more

Great Japanese accented Italian 7/2/2009

Fantastic food, good ambience, and friendly service. I tried tasting dinner course. A small vegetable dip, fish carpaccio, carbonara, grilled Kurobuta pork and sorbet. All dishes were excellent and good enough portion. However the price is only $35. Amazing tasting course. My friend ordered ceviche, tuna and sun-dried tomato spaghettini and ribeye steak. I tasted some, they were so good. I will definitely come back. Pros: Best pasta in NYC more

if you love to eat... 5/24/2009

It would be difficult to know about this place unless someone had told you about it. It:s interesting that they:ve got 2 restaurants in one... I didnt know which one to go to, but I made the reservation for the SUSHI AZABU because I was told that its more difficult to get seating there than the Greenwich Grill and they wont serve sushi at the Grill. (Sushi Azabu only has 3 tables and a few bar counter seatings.) So we had some SUPERB sushi, then asked if we could transfer upstairs to change scenery and try some of their pastas and dessert. Pastas are interesting, very very good with wine by the way. And desserts are just right! Not too sweet, the way I like it. The place is a great place for families, friends and dates. The lounge area is especially relaxing! But reservation is highly recommended, which I guess ill have to get used to doing.. its worth it! Best Sushi Ever 5/24/2009

going throgh the main dining area, Sushi Azabu is located downstairs like a den. Sitting at sushi bar may be little tight for some, but the authentic Japanese food and sushi was one of the best I had. They change fish everyday, in which some are not popular among Americans but worth trying. Sushi chefs are nice and showed me an image of a fish that I don't know. It was my first time in tribeca and i was actually recommended by the greenwich hotel where the concierge told me it was one of the best restaurants in town. I and my wife are very much of a food person so were really excited about it all. The atmosphere was nice and cozy and the staff half or more were actually japanese which made us fell like we were in japan although we were in the states. The service was good and the dishes were even better. It had been quite a while since i had sushi and was really glad to enjoy some of their nigiris at the dining. The desserts were also small, cute but very delicious and tasty especially the tiramisu it was probably the best i've had this year. Its a great place for couples and the service was quite friendly and so would recomend it to any one who just wants to have a good time and enjoy delicious dishes. Well worth the trip 7/28/2008

I was second guessing my decision to make a reservation at Greenwich Grill b/c it was a bit far, but I'm so happy I didn't cancel them. We shared the chinese chicken Salad and calmari as appetizers. Both were delicious. I had the appetizer portion of Gnocchi and Zuwai Crab And Bottarga Spaghettini for my meal. The gnocchi was outstanding. Portions are small, but prices are reasonable. The most amazing pasta I've ever had! 6/12/2008

Went to Greenwich Grill for a nice, low key birthday meal. The place is great. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance is intimate, low-key, elegant. \r We chose the upstairs for their non-sushi menu and decided to get a bunch of appetizer sized pastas. Each one was more delicious than the next. Honestly, some of the best pasta I've ever had. The flavors were strong, the food fresh and the result - heavenly. And very reasonably priced. Great food, service too fast 6/1/2008

The food and atmosphere were excellent. The wine list was broad, well selected, and well priced. The menu was interesting and very well priced. \r The service was attentive, but much to fast. We would normally spend just over 2 hours at a restaurant, but we only spent 1 hour and 15 minutes, big difference. My entree arrived just as they were clearing my starter, so I had no time between courses. The dessert menu arrived almost immediately after we had finished our entree and the check arrived within minutes of finishing dessert. I felt rushed. One hour and 15 minutes is not enough time to have a pleasurable experience. \r Also, I have a pet peeve - service staff clearing plates from the table before everyone has finished the course. This is not correct table service. When one person has a clear table and the other is still eating, it makes the other person feels rushed to finish. I think the service staff called the table clear because they had cleared one of the plates, hence the entree?s arriving too soon. A table should not be called clear, and entree?s should not be started cooking until all persons at the table have finished a course. \r I was trained in table service for high level restaurants so I am probably more critical of it than others might be. In addition, I am not American, so there are cultural differences at play, as other cultures tend to be more leisurely over meals. American restaurants always rush service too much, equating fast service with good service. I strongly feel that rushing patrons through a meal, and clearing plates from tables before all persons at the table are finished a course are major gaffs in service, even for neighborhood restaurants. Also, bringing the check immediately on completion of a meal screams GET OUT! Asking the patron if they would like the check might be a better option for the future.\r In saying all of this ? we?ll be back! But I think I will take more control of the service next time.\r Pros: Great food, prices, atmosphere Cons: Service too fast more
