The Grave Creek Mound is where the city of Moundsville got its name. It is one of the largest, intact burial mounds still in existence. Many school take students no field trips to the mound and it's accompanying museum, but you can take the family on your own. It's relatively inexpensive and a unique opportunity to learn about the Native American heritage of this region. You can take the path to the top of the mound and then visit the museum to learn about how and why the mound was built, as well as see artifacts collected from the mound and the surrounding area.
