tourist hot spot. Try not to be there long. The Chinesse is a great place to watch a movie. more

Really is a very cool theater 8/16/2008

There are a lot of places in Hollywood that are kind of a let down when you visit them, but the Chinese theater is actually really cool. Just make sure when you go there, you're going to a movie in the main theater - the big one - because there are a lot little theaters in the same complex, and you might think your tickets are to the movie in the big theater when they're actually for a little one. The little theaters aren't bad - they're just regular theaters and not nearly the same as the big main one. more

A Must-See tourist destinations 11/23/2007

The Chinese Theatre is Hollywoood History. The fun outside is great to fill time before the movie. Inside, you'll find old Hollywood majesty. Concessions are generally pretty fast. Seating is amazing...take some time before the movie to sit and take it all in. If you can catch an opening expect a raucous crowd. I'd highly recommend you make some time for a movie here if you're from out of town. Pros: Digitial picture more

Old School Theaters Leave You Looking At The Back of Someone's Head The Entire Movie!!! 11/10/2007

We saw American Gangster at this theater the first weekend it opened. Century City, The Bridge and The Grove were sold out. I've lived in LA 5 years and thought why not? It's a beautiful theater and definitely worth seeing on maybe a Hollywood tour but for seeing a movie, what a nightmare. You'll spend 5 minutes admiring the decor and then when the movie started, my 6'2 boyfriend could not see the screen clearly over a woman in front of us who was not that tall or large. I totally have taken stadium seating for granted. I had to move because I couldn't see past her husband's head. To make matters worse it was a 2 hour 40 minute movie. We were both really annoyed and it really took away from our movie experience. I will never go to that theater again. Although, it's a beautiful theater it's just no where near up to the movie-going experience and comfortable viewing of stadium theaters. Pros: beautiful theater Cons: you can't see over the person's head in front of you, can't see, can't see, can't see!!! more

I saw a movie here. 11/7/2007

I saw Titanic at this particular movie theater back in 19-bum, bum, bum....It was Christmas Day, if I recall correctly and I was tempted to go right back in and watch it a second time...It's classic Hollywood. more

Best Theatre in LA 3/14/2005

Grauman's is totally unique. The atmosphere is outstanding with all the history and fame out front. You can kill hours outside just looking and gawking and then you go inside and it's just as spectacular! The facade is really cool and the whole look of the theatre makes movie watching there an experience. The sound and visual quality are tops and the employees are kind and courteous. The only drawback is that they book one film at a time, but you can still go right next door to the Mann's 6 for a wider selection. And that theatre is also very good! Pros: Atmosphere/History, Technical Quality, Experience Cons: Selection more

Colors strange 1/9/2003

The Chinese Theatre, under whatever name it's under (Mann's, Grauman's, etc...), is always something great to show to out of town visitors, and with the Hollywood and Vine mall next door, it's doubly exciting. However, they repainted the theatre, and now instead of the vibrant red, it's this strange orange/red color with a dull gray surrounding it. It might match the mall better, but it still takes away from the theatre. Fortunately, must visitors don't know about the brillance of the former red, so only natives will be unhappy with the ""improvement"". Pros: exciting, historical, eventful Cons: expensive, bad parking, crowded more

The ultimate movie theater experience 12/28/2002

Without question the most famous theater in the world and it's just been recently refurbished with a bigger, better screen and an intense JBL sound system. See a big movie here on opening weekend and you won't go back to seeing a movie in a shoebox. Pros: Beautiful building, Excellent projection, Awesome sound Cons: New reclining seats more

What a trip!!! 7/24/2002

I visited the Chinese Theatre on a nice spring night and it was a blast! There were these two drag queens outside causing a ruckus and filming it all!!!! All in all it was a lot of fun...and I didn't even go in!!!---Outside you can size up your hands and feet against famous paws!!! Pros: famous place, walking on stars!! more

Crowded, but worth it 7/12/2002

If you are just coming to see the footprints, good luck. It's always crowded out front, thanks to the steady flow of tour groups. But ti's worth coming to see a movie in the beautiful, world-famous theater, even if there aren't any matinee prices. Cons: crowded more

Go Graumans 7/12/2002

Love this can just feel the history here and the movie quality , sound, ambience is second to none. People who trash this place obivously haven't experienced those tacky cramped megaplexes in malls. Go Graumans! Pros: ambience, history more

Historic Hollywood 6/28/2002

The Chinese Theatre is a great place to catch a movie, just beware of all the tourists on weekends, especially during the summer. And though you might look like one while doing it, go ahead and measure your footprints up with your favorite movie star. The architecture is quite nice, though I dont like the new paint job. I also dont like the fact that someone felt compelled to link this so closely with the new Hollywood and Highland complex. It takes away a lot of the authenticity. Pros: historic theater Cons: lots of tourists, parking difficult more

The best overall movie experience 6/19/2002

The original Chinese Theatre is undoubtedly the best place to watch a movie. Best sound system (Dolby Digitial + THX), the original widescreen panoramic screen and newly fitted with Digital Projection. more

No Brainer 6/13/2002

The best place to see a film. Especially opening night. A bad film can be a great time out w/ friends. Pros: great sound, great screen, great decor more
