Grandma Honey's is a small family owned and operated restaurant off the beaten path in Wisconsin Dells. It's a place where the locals go and doesn't buy into the tourism hype that so plagues The Dells.
In my opinion, that's a plus. I like to try the local places and heard Grandma Honey's had good food and was inexpensive. What I heard was accurate.
The food was good. Good coffee. Good eggs (cooked perfectly over medium as requested). Good bacon. Good pancakes. Nothing on the breakfast menu was over $7.
The waitstaff, albeit it mostly young girls (under 12 possibly), was friendly, courteous, and remarkably professional for their age.
That's where the positive aspects end.
The place is a dive in the truest sense of the word.
The smell of propane permeates the air leaving an off taste in your mouth hours after leaving. Everything is in need of a deep cleaning and/or fresh paint. The wall unit air conditioner above our table was crusted with grime and flies buzzed about incessantly. The reusable squeeze bottle the pancake syrup is served in was amassing permanently ground in dirt except where contrastingly cleaner white poked out from underneath the plastic flip cap.
We were seated immediately and our orders taken promptly. However, it took nearly 45 minutes for breakfast arrive. The diners that arrived immediately before us were paying their bill to leave before our food was delivered and a man that arrived after us received his food long before we did. Four eggs, six pancakes, bacon, and toast shouldn't be a difficult or time consuming order to fill at any time, let alone when half the tables are unoccupied.
The food was good, but the filth, the smell, and the delay in receiving our food means we will never return.
Pros: Good food (once we finally got it). Friendly waitstaff
Cons: Dirty. Smells bad. Ridiculously long wait for food.
