Best

I'm sorry tired of hearing whiny people complain about bad service. IT'S A DIVE BAR, PEOPLE! You're not going to the French Laundry. The Grand Saloon is one of my favorite dive...

Worst

I've been going to Grand Saloon since college. The burgers are great and it's a perfect spot during the cold winters. But recently, I went there on a Sunday night and experience...

Def a dive 6/14/2008

It's a dive bar alright, I was there with a group of guys to catch a game, one of my friends lives near there and suggested it. The athmosphere was pretty good but I think the seven of us added to that. The food was ok too, basic pub stuff which we were lookinh for, Oddly though the prices didn't reflect the dive status of this place. Same pricebeers as better places doesn't make sense. Pros: Dive bar, good for a game Cons: Not expensive but still overpriced more

Bad food, horrible attitude and delivery 2/24/2008

I will not recommend the place to anyone. The delivery took an hour to arrive even though we are located 3 blocks away. The delivery guy had to be under influence. The food was cold and disgusting. To top it of the staff person told us, that we could order from some place else if we are not satisffied. What are a way to run a business... If there was a negative 10, I'd give it to this establishment. more

GRAND SALOON RULES! 5/1/2007

I'm sorry tired of hearing whiny people complain about bad service. IT'S A DIVE BAR, PEOPLE! You're not going to the French Laundry. The Grand Saloon is one of my favorite dive bars in New York - great neighborhood ambiance, phenomenal bar food (really - the guy with acid reflux in the earlier review should stick to eating rice and tofu), and one of the best places to watch sports in the city. more

HORRIBLE service, more grease/oil in food than any fast food joint 2/13/2007

I used to go the Grand Saloon every now and then when in the mood for a good burger & fries, a pitcher of beer, a convivial atmosphere, a game on their TVs, and usually cute and friendly waitresses/hostesses. The food is tremendously greasy... I almost always get bloated and heartburn after I eat there, and one time me and my friend had to sit in the car for 45 minutes just to ""recover"" after a meal... NO JOKE. But I was willing to endure some digestion issues once in awhile, as the food, while not great, is not bad for burger fare. Far from the best, but not bad. However, last time I went there, it was Karaoke night on Friday. It looked like they got rid of most of their TVs. There seemed to be a bunch of regulars there, kinda provincial neighborhood types who were throwing their own party. Unlike the crowds I'd seen on previous visits... which would be a mix of all types and ages. But worst of all was the service. Never had a major problem with service before. But this waitress didn't listen carefully to the order and brought us the wrong beer, made us wait for the check, then made us wait OVER AN HOUR for our change... while she changed her clothes and stalled, obviously hoping we'd leave her the change as tip... and then we we got it, she had already taken the tip! And then she sat at the bar, drinking, while our plates remained on the table... and only when we got up to leave did she start taking the plates! NO JOKE. Horrible service. I was embarassed I took my friends there. Oh, btw, got very bloated and heartburn again as usual, and so did my friends (one of whom only ordered a chicken salad!) Won't be coming back anytime soon, if ever. Pros: Used to have friendly service, tasty but greasy food Cons: HORRIBLE service now; if they went out of business, the oil business would go bankrupt more

Great Service, ambience and terrific new menu.... 9/19/2006

It's been a long time since I'd been to the Grand Saloon....and I will say there is every reason for me to go back much sooner than my previous visit.(I am now a grown man, married with the 2.5 kids, but the moment I walked through the doors memory lane kicked in and I was so content, and stayed so long, my buddies had to almost ply me out of there with a coat hook......The Grand Saloon has updated their tech...(Flat Screens) all over the place (major plus) and their menu has been revamped without violating to good old usuals......burgers are still the best in the neighborhood.... Pros: great service, food and general feel Cons: a bit dark on the lighting more

BAD SERVICE! 9/18/2006

I've been going to Grand Saloon since college. The burgers are great and it's a perfect spot during the cold winters. But recently, I went there on a Sunday night and experienced the WORST service. Pros: Burgers and fries. Ambience. Television. Cons: HORRIBLE SERVICE! more

DO NOT ORDER OUT FROM THIS PLACE! 5/7/2006

BAD SERVICE and RUDE! On a Sunday night, I ordered 2 burges from Grand Saloon. As usual I was very specific with my address. After an hour, I called and was told that the delivery guy couldnt fine my address and came back with the food. I gave them all the info again and it was exactly what they had. I said I did not wnt hour old food and they promised to remake it. A few minutes later, the guy showed up with cold burger and fries. I called again, the same woman answered and refused to do anything about it saying she doesn't know what they do in the kitchen. About an hour later, the delivery guy showed up at my door offering my money back if I gave him the food back. Of course, 2.5 hours after I ordered my dinner, it had already been eaten. Cons: Take Out more

Good Burgers 12/10/2002

Burgers are good, decent pint of Guinness. Lots of space, but they get an odd crowd in there. Jukebox isn't much to speak of. Service is sketchy, not always happy to have a customer in an empty restaurant. more

UNDER-HYPED 8/7/2002

This non-descript bar near the corner of 23rd street and 3rd avenue is a nice find. The burgers are fantastic as well as most of the other food. And the french fried that accompany the burger are some of the best I have ever tasted in the world. Worth a stop! more

  • In Short
The Grand Saloon's traditional old-style copper facade emulates the classic old New York bar -- with TVs. There's plenty of room for watching the big game on well-placed screens...
