Best 360 View of San Francisco 5/31/2010

Definitely the best views in the city! There is a 360 view so you can see Coit Tower, the Trans America Building, Union Square, Fishermans Wharf, and pretty much everything else! I had my first California Tan (Anchor Steam and Guinness) and was pleasantly surprised. So delish! They have a special advertised for $5 wine on Monday's, but we found out that's only if you buy one of their pricey appetizers! Bummer! The waitress was nice enough to honor the $5 wine (w/o the app) once we showed her, but we stuck with the California Tan. If you are looking for great views, this is the place to go! Pros: view Cons: pricey more

Old hotel, but nice location 1/30/2009

Stayed here over Christmas, and loved the location. Right in the heart of Union Square. Rooms are very clean, but old and need to be renovated. They charge close to $50 to park overnight, so it's best to park off-site or take BART more

Great Union Square hotel 11/14/2008

This is walking distance to Union Square, Financial District, and Chinatown (among some other places). Great sleeping rooms and there is also a good bar with decent food if you don't want to venture out late. more

Marginal Staff - Small Rooms 7/22/2008

If you like being treated like a guest overstaying your welcome, this is place is for you. The staff acts like they are doing you a favor. (One bright spot was a lovely older bellman who helped us during arrival.) We came casual to breakfast, as we were on vacation, and they seated us in the corner next to the kitchen. The rooms are small but nice. However, the staff was less than friendly and needs a brush up on their attitude. We stay often in San Francisco and will go back to our old favorites after this less than thrilling experience. Further, if you want a view, go somewhere else. Pros: location Cons: staff, views more

Beautiful beginning 2/25/2008

We arrived at this beautiful hotel and was greeted by wonderful valets and all of our luggage was unloaded for us. We were brought to the front desk to check in and then to our room. It was a great room and a wonderful view. All the staff were excellent in making sure that we were well cared for. The following day we went out for a day on the city, had reservations to one of the city's premier restaurants at 7:30 and returned around 4 to prepare. Unfortunately, when we arrived the room was still unmade and we did not have clean towels. Things became worse from there. We went down to the front desk explaining that we needed towels and our room needed attention. They assured us that a housekeeper would be up immediately to take care of the situation. We returned to the front desk at 5:00 as we still had not seen a housekeeper and let them know that we had reservations at 7:30 and needed this to be taken care of immediately. The desk clerk apologised and once again said that a housekeeper would be up immediately. 6:00 pm still no housekeeper or towels we made a call to the front desk and 6:30 a housekeeper showed up saying ""what do you want!"" We told her the problem and she said that they had finished all of the rooms and would bring towels. 15 minutes later we received towels and the room was never made. The worst part was we were right next to the housekeeping room on the 12th floor! Horrid Service!! Needless to say we were 45 minutes late for our reservations and had to wait an hour to get a table! I have stayed at many 4 to 5 star hotels and have always gotten the best service. This was mortifying and I would never stay at this hotel again. Pros: Wonderful location, Great room, Great view of the City. Cons: Horrible service....absolutely the worst I have ever experienced even 2 star hotels are better more

Wonderful place to stay at the last minute 6/11/2007

I was in San Francisco May 31st thru June 5th and stayed at the Grand Hyatt starting June 1st. I was originally staying at the Hotel California/Savoy Hotel but the noise, room and amenties were much to be desired. So I called up the Grand Hyatt and they were having a special deal for the weekend and my stay (for 4 nights) cost roughly $900. When I entered the hotel I was treated like a VIP. They were extremely accomodating considering I was checking in at around 11:30 AM (check in is at 4 PM). The staff at the hotel were extremely kind and helpful. The room was beautiful, clean and the beds were extremely comfortable. The view from my room was beautiful and another plus about this hotel is that everything is within walking distance. Macys, Westfield Centre San Francisco (Bloomingdales, Sanrio, huge food courts, Bristol Farms, Nordstroms etc....), cable cars, Union Sqaure etc.....This hotel is wonderfully located and I highly recommend it to anyone going to San Francisco. Pros: walking distance to all major San Francisco spots Cons: Valet Parking is expensive but it is San Francisco more

Great location 9/15/2006

We stayed in many hotels in SF and this Hyatt was great location if you loooooooooooove shopping. It is right at the heart of Union Square and you will even get a shopping pass at Macy's for staying there. The room was a bit smaller than the Hyatt at Embarcadero but it's still standard Hyatt quality. Pros: Great location more

Grand Hyatt Needs a Facelift 7/25/2005

Last week I got the chance to stay at the Grand Hyatt with a friend who was visiting from out of town. The rooms are very dated, and desperatly need updating. Even the lobby was not that inviting. THe staff is nice and friendly. I believe that there are many more hotels in San Francisco that are much nicer in the same price range. Pros: Location, Views Cons: Run down, overpriced more

Wow - what a view - best view in town of the bay area. Grand view restaurant is a great spot for the sights and after dinner drinks. Great Mt. Saint Sundae - oh yeah! Pros: location, value more

Nice Location & Surroundings 7/11/2002

Located close to a vast amount of shopping at Union Square, this hotel offered a very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The location is also great for various restaurants, catching a bus, or riding the cable car. The staff is pretty friendly and helpful with any questions about the attractions or advise on what to see and do. Our (standard) room was actually larger than I was anticipating, as well as being very clean and comfortable. Some attractions are a little distance away so plan on taking a taxi or the recommended bus. However, this hotel is still better if you are going for a relaxing vacation rather than a party. Pros: Quiet & relaxing, Nice Rooms, Shopping Cons: Attraction Locations more

Nice ... but not Grand. 7/1/2002

A friend of mine lives in an SF high rise apt. & complains that her place is too small, over-priced ... but w/a great view! That probably best describes this Hotel. Yes, its clean & centrally located. But after looking at a view for 30 secs, you eventually have to turn around & spend time in your pricey room. I love Hyatt Hotels; this just wasn't as ""Grand"" as the others -- but more costly! Pros: Location, Views, Cleanliness Cons: Over-Priced, Small Standard Rooms, Pan Handlers more
