Best Diner in Yorkville 7/12/2010

Been coming here for over 10 years. Consistently good food and service eating there and for takeout! Tried Green Kitchen or 3-Star to mix up things but they don't compare to Gracie Mews. What were we thinking? Love everything from burgers to the mussels over pasta to the rosemary roasted chicken! Steve, Manager, is a regular good guy. Wait staff and bus boys are nice and move the place. It's great to have a solid goto diner in the neighborhood. Pros: Personable management and staff Cons: Peak hours there are wait lines more

great breakfast spot 11/10/2008

I live right across the st from gracie mews. I recommend the place not because its convinient for me but because its a great place to go for breakfast. The place is always packed and lots of family gather ther eon the weekend. I feel ike I'm back in suburbia when I eat there. Its greek owned and they make the best frittatas. more

Sub-par breakfast 6/10/2007

I ordered the buttermilk pancakes, which had a good flavor, but were far from fluffly (actually on the gluey side). There was no maple syrrup--instead, the pancakes came with a plate of commercially wraped mini-tubs of the fake stuff. The side of ham was literally deli-sliced lunchmeat heated up on the grill. The menu is big, but don't try to veer off-course. If you want an item on the prix fixe menu but you don't want the extras, you're out of luck. The large dinging area is on the loud side. Still, if you're not picky and you want a no-frills big breakfast, Gracie Mews gets the job done. The service was fast, the portions were huge, and the server was friendly. As for me, I won't be coming back--I like my food to taste great. Pros: fast service, huge portions Cons: gluey pancakes, no real maple syrrup, low-quality breakfast meat more

Decent food, nice ambience, good menu, LOUSY service 3/29/2007

A few years ago this place was expanded and renovated. It looks pretty nice, much nicer than most diners, and the food is decent. But the service is as bad as it ever was, mostly grouchy older men. If your burger arrives raw and you send it back, count on it coming back on the same soggy bun 2nd time around. They are deaf to complaints. There are so many good diners in this neighborhood, I don't know why anyone would go here unless you are tied to the location. The diners at 79th and 1st or 86th and 1st may not be as pretty but the food and service are much better.\r

\r This morning was the worst - and funniest - ever. My husband ordered wheat toast and I ordered rye. The food arrived with a double order of rye so I reminded her that he ordered wheat. When she came back with it, she actually put both hands on my stack of rye toast and took back half. I had sliced the stack in half so she sort of had to struggle to pick it up but she was determined. After she walked away we cracked up. Quite the training program they're running over there! more
