Best

thanks to another reviewer below, I was able to find my long lost love.......Bombay Palace!! the lunch buffet is practically identical to what use to be offered at Bombay Palace....

Worst

After reading the reviews, decided to go all the way and try the restaurant. The Tandoori food was very dry and had a peculiar taste in all the pieces (tandoori chiken, Seekh keba...

Poor poor Psanda........ 12/4/2011

Being from the UK I have eaten many delicious india dishes, unfortunately my Lamb Psanda this evening was more like Lamb in Custard....... The pops were chewy, the Saag was salty. The only item correct was the rice. But I would expect good Basmati....A very poor experience all round. Called to tell them and was fobbed off..... Very unhappy will not be ordering from this restaurant in the future. more

frustrating experience. 12/25/2010

I had a frustrating experience visiting this restaurant today. Today evening(12/25/10), I went to this restaurant for a light snack and requested for two chat items(priced around 10$). The reply I got was ""you can't just have apetizer and should order main course"". This restriction was never mentioned anywhere and I was not in need of any main course. I got frustrated and walked out. Thanks for making the Christmas very memorable. I have not heard of such restrictions in any other place and would be happy to correct myself, if this is a general practice. more

No thanks...not for us 2/24/2009

We quite fancied an Indian meal last night..the starters were fine but all the main dishes were very very salty...it spoiled the meal completely and ,12 hours and an uncomfortable night later,we can still taste the salt.Even after bringing out another portion, freshly cooked,it was still salty. Not for me, thanks Pros: Good parking, friendly staff Cons: Very salty food more

this place IS like the old Bombay Palace!!!! 2/3/2009

thanks to another reviewer below, I was able to find my long lost love.......Bombay Palace!! the lunch buffet is practically identical to what use to be offered at Bombay Palace.....I am so glad to have found this place. go to their website and print off a coupon for 10% off lunch, 15% off dinner....service is excellent, waitstaff very attentive........nice quaint atmosphere.....it is far out on the west side of town, but well worth the drive! Pros: excellent service, great food Cons: out on west side of town, area is somewhat run down more

Great Indian Dishes 1/21/2009

I've been to Gourmet India several times and have enjoyed the lunch buffett and the dinner menu. The food is excellent and service is good. I just wanted to tell eatit2008 that you don't have to drive to far out Westheimer to get the EXACT SAME FOOD AND MENU, just go to India's on Richmond a couple of hundred yards west of Chimney Rock. IT'S IDENTICAL, must be the same owners (I never asked) as Gourmet India. So save yourself several miles and dozens of traffic lights and go to India's you never know the difference. All the dishes are excellent and they use plenty of cream and butter as well, very rich sauces. But just like Gourmet India, their wine list is terrible and it's overpriced. Pros: Chicken Tiki Marsala, Sag Paneer, Quiet, Lunch Buffett Cons: Parking more

all-around great experience 1/16/2009

I went for the lunch buffet: the basic indian favorites, without all that unusual stuff. Even had appetizers and desert! I was very pleased with the entire experience. The food was very hot (temperature) and fresh. The waitstaff is extremely attentive and polite. Don't let the outside appearance scare you off! I will most definitely return! (and secretly hope they will open a 2nd restaurant in a more convenient location!) Pros: awesome food and service Cons: slightly expensive, not so great location more

This is the old Bombay Palace resurrected--LOVE IT! 2/9/2008

I was a Bombay Palace fan for 20 years. I was horribly disappointed with Kiran's takeover, and quit going. I longed for the old Bombay Palace, and despite trying all the other big name Indian places in Houston, never found a place that was like Bombay Palace in quality of food and the delicious creamy curries. Well, I recently decided to look further afield for a good North Indian place. Gourmet India is far out west for me, but it was highly rated here, so my wife and I decided to try it. Pros: Food quality, friendly service, nice linens on tables Cons: west-side location (but toll road gets you there quickly) more

Actual indian food with real indian taste 11/21/2007

\r For a change the Indian food was not bland and at the same time was not too spicy either. The difference in tastes of different dishes is distinct here. For a change all the dishes don?t taste the same. more

Best Indian Restaurant Hands Down - a MUST TRY! 10/24/2007

I am an Indian food lover and at the same time the harshest Indian food critic. Believe me when I say no restaruant has ever left me so speechless and in awe of its greatness as Gourmet India. The food is exceptional. I have traveled the world and have found no other food like the great delectable cuisine that comes from this place. For Galleria and downtown dwellers, this place is DEFINITELY worth your drive. I also am a harsh critic of service, but the service here is exquisite and topnotch. You can get food brought out to your table customized to your very liking, and fresh naan is always available and circulating the restaurant. The people are phenomenal here, and the food is dynamite while still being affordable. Like I said above, this is a must try. You will have no regrets, and you too, will become a frequent visitor after one bite of this delicious offering. What a great hidden Houston secret! Pros: Authentic food, excellent waitstaff, great price more

Flavorful food & fantastic service! 9/17/2007

This place has been a family favorite for us for YEARS! We even had food from Gourmet India for our Christmas Dinner last year-that should say enough! The chicken tikka masala is absolutely divine. It's not too creamy or heavy like at some places. The chicken is cooked perfectly. My boyfriend was daydreaming about it the day after! The saag paneer is always delicious and not too heavy either. The goan fish curry is amazing-think mustard seeds and curry leaves! Their eggplant dish (can't remember the name) is delicious as well. The staff is friendly and attentive. Plus, it's one of the few Indian restaurants that is open on Mondays! I highly recommend this restaurant! Pros: Fantastic food and service! more

Best of Everything! 11/20/2006

Lovely food - the ambience isn't that great, but the food is so delicious you over look that part! The general manager is personable and friendly and checks on service at each table. Food was hot, and plentiful. Could use some nice Indian music to create that ambience. Worth the trip! more

Simply Splendid! 3/23/2006

One word - splendid. Gourmet India is one of its kind. I agree with the other reviews - the staff is kind and courteous and prompt, the food is savory and unique and delectable for any palate, and the decor is classic and elegant and well kept. The food is authentic Indian yet suited for all palates - my wife and kids who are not used to Indian food thoroughly enjoyed it. It's definitely a great meal for a great value and I can't keep away now! I take business clients as well as my kids. What more would you want? Pros: Great staff, Great food, Great parking Cons: Residential Area more

Great Food & Even Better Service! 1/12/2006

My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the lunch buffet here. The food was hot and fresh, with the staff constantly refilling the dishes. The flavors were great, and you knew exactly what you were eating, thanks to the descriptions. The staff was just wonderful. They were the nicest, most helpful people I think I've ever encountered in a restaurant. I am definitely a returning customer now. Highly, highly recommended. Pros: Food, Staff Cons: Nothing at all. more

Food And Ambience That Cannot Be Beat! 1/1/2006

Everything from the live piano music at night to the friendly and familiar restaurant staff's faces makes dining at Gourmet India a unique experience. Although there are so many Indian restaurants in town, Gourmet India sets itself apart with its superior customer service, high quality food dishes, not to mention their affordable pricing. This is the perfect place for families and business dinners, alike. I encourage you to visit - I can't stay away for then a week at a time! more

The New Indian Restaurant to be at! 9/10/2005

I have been in Houston for several years and restaurants often seem to have their waves and bouts. This folks, I assure you, is the restaurant to be at. I kept hearing radio ads and was wondering what the hype was about. Being a skeptical person, I was blown away that the restaurant could keep up with my expectations. Folks, this is the NEW BOMBAY PALACE! This is the new place to get catering from. This is the new place to count on great Indian food. You won't be disappointed. Pros: top quality food, service, good parking Cons: residential area more

Perfect 8/8/2005

Recently, I catered some food from this restaurant for a small social gathering (about 60 people), and I have to say I was more than satisfied with their service. The manager was very easy to talk to, gave me a lot of flexibility with the menu, and even offered me a good price without me having to negotiate at all. Moreover, the waiters that delivered the food were very nice and more than happy to help me get everything set up. The food was great, and was MORE than enough for 60 people. They definitely made sure we wouldn't run short. I was very very happy with every part of their food, service, etc. Definitely give these guys a visit. Pros: Food, Service, Price more

A Fantastic Restaurant! 8/4/2005

I had been hearing a lot of great things about Gourmet India recently, so my wife and I decided to get some take out for dinner yesterday. We were very pleasently surprised with the food. (On a side note, when I went to go get the food the restaurant looked great!) The chicken dishes were tender, moist and overall well prepared. The vegeterian dishes were equally tasty with just the right amounts and variety of spices. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone looking for delicious, authentic, and moderately priced Indian food! It's unquestionably the best Indian food I have had in a long, long time. Pros: Tasty Food, Affordable Prices, Nice Staff more

Noticeable Improvements 7/27/2005

I have been coming on and off to Gourmet India for about two years now, and considered it to be fairly mediocre. But over the last two months, every time I have visited the restaurant for the lunch buffet or for dinner I have been very impressed with the changes - in ambience, food, and service. The new managers are very friendly and seem to be experienced. I have recommended this restaurant to all of my colleagues and friends, and they too seem to be thoroughly satisfied! Pros: Food, Service, Ambience more

A BRAND NEW RESTAURANT! 7/24/2005

I had visited this restaurant many years ago, but I was very surprised to see all the changes when I ate dinner at Gourmet India this last week! The owners and chef from Bombay Palace have taken over and changed everything...for the BETTER! The food is fantastic, the servers are very polite and attentive, and the prices are extremely reasonable. There have been so many renovations that I would never have guessed it was the same restaurant - the new decor is very classy however! If you visited this restaurant before and came away unhappy, it is definitely worth visitng again! Pros: Food, Service, Decor more

Great Food, Service, and Decor! 7/23/2005

My dining experience at Gourmet India was wonderful! We had visited a few years back when the restuarant had first opened, but the new management has definitely made Gourmet India a MUCH, MUCH better restaurant. The food is delicious- authentic Indian, the waitstaff is friendly and very helpful (several of the people in our group weren't familiar with Indian cuisine), and the restaurant's atmosphere is definitely pleasant. The portions are of pretty good size, and the prices are very reasonable. I have visited a majority of the Indian restaurants in Houston, and I must say that after the recent renovations and changes in menu Gourmet India definitely offers the best food and service for the best price. I highly recommend it to everyone! Pros: Authentic Food, Cost, Service more
