Worst ""brunch"" experience I've ever had 1/29/2012

Well, let me start on a positive. Great coffee. From there it goes downhill. Very VERY slow service, although the waitress was quite friendly and super nice. The tables appeared clean, but floor was utterly filthy, the waitress moved the table next to us to accomodate a party of 4 and it looked like the floor had never been washed. Disgusting. I went there because I'd always passed it for years and never went in - yesterday we were nearby and wanted brunch, thought we'd finally try it. I ordered a veggie omelet with swiss and homefries. The homefries were not griddle cooked like a normal diner - they were large chunks of potato, which were deep fried - WAY overcooked - and had a thick crunchy dark brown crust to them and tasted like the oil they used was old and a touch rancid. My omelet had burned patches on the bottom and was dry and overcooked and also had a slightly funny taste. The rye toast was so gray and soggy it was as if they had steamed it rather than toasted it. I ate a small amount of my omelet to be polite (the other 2 people I was with both had pancakes and they claimed they tasted ok). The whole time I kept thinking - Chef Ramsey would have a field day here trying to make this place over.... By the time the check had been paid, I was starting to feel funny. It got worse when the air hit me outside and I fought nausea all the way home... I had to lie down the minute I arrived at my house and ended up sleeping for a couple of hours, felt a bit better when I awoke, but still felt slightly ill. Wasn't able to eat dinner at all though. This morning my stomach is a little queasy but I'm feeling a bit better. I can guarantee you I won't go back. more

Perhaps it's the quirky concept, but this gallic diner gives off a neurotic feel. Is it a good old-fashioned American diner, as the decor would suggest, or has an Alain Ducasse wannabe squirreled himself in the kitchen? You can't be both, guys. Choose one, or be accused of being a ridiculously high-priced diner (which it is), serving tiny portions of gastropub fare (which it does), to famished Eurotrash tourists and bewildered Americans.\r \r Note, when we went there last time, a French family (who had been occupying two tables, and speaking in French at full lung), tried to skip out without paying their bill. Heh, I can relate.\r \r PS: They got caught. more

Do Not Eat Here!!! Disgusting!!! 2/20/2011

We walked in and it looked like a typical diner, nothing gourmet about it but fine, we sat down. They had anything from pasta, to Kosher Jewish food, to seafood, to sandwiches, to French food, American, and a variety of salads. more

Returned for a final chance. It's not good anymore. Menu is not good value. Place has an odor inside. Mens bathroom is filthy. French toast were not consistent, one piece was great other uncoiled. Sent it back to be cooked through and never received rest of my order. Service is poor. Priced higher than worth. I'm not going back. Darn shame. It used to be very good. Nothing stays the same. more

April Fools ! Not Your Average Diner, Terrible ! 1/15/2011

My gut feeling always said to never enter this metal contraption but my adoreable girlfriend insisted that we must as she is a huge diner fan. It turns out we were bamboozled. I couldn't believe my eyes! I perused the menu several times searching for the burger and fries section to no avail. The best part about our visit here is that we sat on the south side of the diner right by the exit door and discretely performed a Divid Copperfield. more

Not what it used to be! Dirty inside, food too expensive, smells bad and needs renovation. Used to be good but not anymore. Owner does not care, sits at home and watches from Internet security camera. Nice staff but zero management. more

Awful !!!!!!! 6/29/2010

Without doubt the worst dining experience my family have encountered for many a year, not 1 awful meal but 5,tied in first place was the reheated roast chicken and the fried chicken that was roasted sometime many days previous floured and thrown in the fryer until hot and hard, what really annoys you with a lazy chef is that on the menu it clearly states all food is freshly prepared and please be patient !!!!! this should clearly read all food is reheated and will be with you in record time. Cons: food-price more

Don't go! It's filthy, smells of raw sewerage. Owner needs to improve the place. Bathrooms are horrible. Stopped going after more than 10 years as a regular. Gotten sick each time. Never again and it is not cheap. Don't waste your time, money and it pains me to write this. Servers are great but place is horrible. more

Great food hidden in the body of a diner. 5/31/2010

I have been to this restaurant a few times and try something new each time. I have never been let down as everything has been enjoyable. It has a higher end menu even though it is a diner. The staff has always been nice, even remembering me on my first return trip. If you are looking for some good food, without the stuck up atmosphere, try this place. Pros: Staff is friendly, service is good, food is good Cons: pricey for lunch more

We were famished and it was pouring outside. There was a cozy and intimate vibe, and the food was abundantly served. Diner food with panache. A bit steep $12.00 for burger with fries that weren't hand cut even. Tomatoes were tasteless, the onion soup bloated with cheese, kinda lije Dennys but twice the price. more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 8/15/2009

Since new owner the menu has nearly doubled in price, quality of food cheapened and nothing Gourment about hot dogs! Gone are the real gourmet foods, sauces and unique. Owner will kill this place I predict. Ought to take Gourmet out of the name. It is dirty, bathrooms old and smelly. You can tell zero dollars spent on upgrades. Used to eat at this place when originally located across the street but have decided to NEVER dine there again. I would bypass this place as it has lost it's cache. Darn shame nothing stays true to it's roots when someone else takes over! Don't waste your time. Message to owner, show up and stop managing via your Internet cameras... Work the place. more

Great food in, obviously, a diner atmosphere. Had the pan seared ahi tuna which was magnificent. If you must have ambiance with your meal you may want to go elsewhere, but if you want great food without a pretentious attitude come here. more

Showed up for a late lunch early dinner and was given a lunch time menu then told that I was not allowed to order food from the lunch menu. The service was not bad not good either just blah. The food choices were all pretty unappetizing as well. The diner theme is nice just not for gourmet. more

Bad Food, terrible services 6/23/2007

Never tried this diner before. Went in for early dinner and place was empty. Took 45 minutes for soup course (french onion which the cheese was burnt). Took another 20 minutes for entree was was filet serve with scalloped potatoes which was not edible. No refills offered on beverages nor did waiter every ask how the food was. Cons: bad food and even worse service more

Dissapointed 7/25/2006

We were so disappointed. Read Herald reveiw that said it was good french food. Big disappointment. Bland food with no imagination. Sorely needse redecorating and general sprucing up. Food was not worth finishing. With any luck new owners will come in and clean up the place. If so, we'll be back. Pros: location, parking Cons: boring food, needs cleaning up more
