""Caution-added work"" 11/29/2011

I went to this tire retailer for 4 tires, I left with 2 broken LF wheel studs and 1 stretched wheel stud on the RF that eventually failed. What is going on at this tire retailer I asked myself. In 35 years of maintaining and repairing my personal autos I have never scene such a failure of wheel studs. Before going to this retailer, just one month before, I had rotated my tires to inspect them. All the lug nuts and wheel studs came off and went on without any problems. However, after having my tires changed at this retailer the salesman asked me what I wanted to do with the 2 broken wheel studs. What, what 2 broken wheel studs, I asked with amazement??????? Yep, during the tire change it was discovered that I had 2 broken wheel studs, of which, I did not have when I brought my car in for the tire change.\r And after inspecting the broken studs and lug nuts I discovered a ""shiny"" new lug nut that replaced one of my OEM lug nuts. I did not have this new looking lug nut when I brought the car in for the tire change. The garage personnel insisted that is what they took off of my car when they changed the tires. I know for a fact which lug nuts were on my car when I drove to the retailer, and that new shiny lug nut WAS NOT ONE OF THEM!!!!! I have ten years of professional training in fasteners, torque specifications, and why fasteners fail. I have taught this subject to fortune 100 companies and nuclear power plants, I know the subject inside and out. Either this retailer is padding work orders through planned equipment failures or they have a serious issue in the way they tighten wheel lug nuts. They should check their pneumatic torque guns and the way they start and tighten lug nuts. Because, I went in for 4 new tires and left with 2 broken wheel studs and a third that eventually failed upon inspection at home. NOT GOOD! IF YOU USE THIS RETAILER BE AWARE OF EXTRA WORK ADDED TO YOUR BILL. ASK QUESTIONS AND GET A SECOND OPINION. I WILL NEVER USE THIS RETAILER AGAIN!!! FROM NOW ON I WILL SPECIFY THAT MY TIRE STUDS SHOULD BE HAND TORQUED!!! more
