Very nice place to stay. Cool Pool 5/31/2011

We visited Las Vegas a couple weeks back and stayed at the Golden Nugget. We love downtown Las Vegas adn have stayed here a few time. We really loved that it was close to all the cute wedding chapels in Las Vegas. We got married at Mon Bel Ami wedding chapel while we were in town which is right down the street. The Golden Nugget staff gave us free champane and strawberries when we told them that we had eloped. We would definitely stay here again! more

Choice Among Downtown Hotels 3/5/2009

Golden Nugget is a good choice if you must stay downtown. The guest rooms are nearly on par with some strip hotels. The food is good without being exceptional. The staff are quite friendly, and the casino is easy to navigate. On the negative side, the pool is very attractive but is a complete mob scene. Also, the registration desk is awkwardly located, and check-in lines build quickly. Finally, this is a very high density property and the casino always seems crowded. However, the rates are quite reasonable. more

"Old" Vegas at it's best 5/20/2007

This is my favorite hotel downtown, beautiful place, screams Old Vegas, good resturant right near the front entrance (name escapes me, but you can't miss it and the food was AWESOME) Stunning pool area for a downtown hotel complete with shark tank! If you can swing it get one of the two story suites with half spiral staircase, spa tub, huge sitting room, bar, tv up and down stairs, cieling to floor wondows complete with remote control blinds! It was like living like a high roller for five days, was incredible Pros: beautiful "old" vegas hotel, pool, food Cons: off strip, but plenty of hotels near it right on freemont street more

have confidence to stay here 11/14/2006

This hotel has seen some changes in ownership over the past few years. It's the best place I've stayed downtown, and I've stayed in all the hotels and in this one 30 times.( on business here often) There's some remodelling going on but the pool should be ready soon. I like: large rooms, clean rooms, easy access to parking stucture, ambience, good service on valet parking, good buffet I didn't like: Even though I've stayed 30 times and they know it from their computer, the front desk always treats me like they've never seen me and prefer they won't see me again. But if I put my ego aside, I realize it's still the best place downtown and they probably know that so why treat me special. Pros: Big rooms, good value, good downtown location, safe Cons: AS of this writing there's construction going on, but that should be a "pro" later more

Can Beat this!! 6/21/2006

Heading out tonight for Vegas again, and we will be staying at the Golden Nugget AGAIN!!! What a wonderful Hotel/Casino. The rooms are nice, comfortable, and a great size!!! The hotel is a little older looking than some of the ones on the strip, but you can't beat the location. Downtown is a great place to stay, and a fun place to wander around at night, between the casinos only. As a former resident of Vegas, DO NOT wander to any of the little side streets around downtown. The Casino was great, as was the food. The main cafe, dining area serves great food and a wonderful strawberry waffle. We ate there many times and was satisfied every time!!! Pros: Price, Location, Service Cons: Towels could be fluffier!! more

Golden Junk-it 4/12/2006

Ugh! Too bad the pool was under construction and they made NO accomodations for guests to be served by another hotel. They also did not inform us of that either. Concierge was not even helpful after I interrupted co-workers conversation about what they did last night, they weren't helpful. I asked them to call the transport service I had the card to to schedule a return trip to the airport. Instead of 4 star service taking care of it, they directed me to the far wall phone with all transportaion numbers listed. Yuck. I will not be returning or reccommending it to anyone! Cons: poor service, smokers, smell more

Nice place Downtown 11/10/2005

It was our first time going to Vegas and this hotel was a great deal! Next time I go however I will be staying on the strip. You either had to take a taxi (expensive) or the bus (pain!) to get anywhere on the strip. The hotel was very nice and the service was good too, it is just too far away from everything. Pros: Clean, Good Service Cons: Too far away more

Not For The Rich 1/20/2004

While it is one of the nicest hotels in downtorn Las Vegas, I am confused as to how it could end up as a place that the "rich" stay. It has been (or was?) used for years to house local jurors who had been sequestered (not allowed to go home at night) and the accomodations are adequate for that purpose. The restaurants are fantastic though. For the rich, there are far nicer hotels in Vegas that offer more than four walls and a bed. For the budget conscious, its a fine place to stay and to eat but plan to spend a lot on taxicabs to get to the Strip to see the nicer places Vegas has to offer. Pros: Great restaurants, Inexpensive Cons: Cheap quality rooms, Not on the Strip more

golden nugget 7/31/2003

Excellent hotel and value, but desk clerks are not very accomodating to guests. Pros: value, location, luxury Cons: rude desk clerks, no shttle frm airport more

Ms. 4/21/2003

Rates are very reasonable for a 4 star hotel. The rooms was very big and clean. The room service is slow to say the least but the food was acceptable. I recommend Zax restaurant for dinner it was very very good. Stefano's was terrible! The service was spotty. They were more worried about singing and the food was below average. I would not recommend this restaurant! Pros: Zax restaurant, Nice big rooms Cons: pillows, Room service more

Worth the 4 stars 12/6/2002

This was our first time in Vegas, quite frankly I was scared about staying in the 'old strip.' But the Golden Nugget received a AAA 4 Diamond Award, so I decided to give it a try. For the money, compared with other pricey Strip rooms it is a great value. The buffet was very good, the atmosphere was very clean and opulent. The shows there were also top notch for being off the strip. We found that a lot of money can be saved by taking the bus up to the New Strip instead of cabbing it everywhere, it is conveniently located by the hotel. more

the best there is!!! 10/27/2002

it does'nt get any better than this, i think this place is just the best. Pros: i liked everything Cons: nothing to dislike more

The Jewel of Downtown 5/23/2002

With the emergence of the major strip 'themed' casinos, the downtown area in general has become an overlooked step child. This hotel is no exception. Although it does not have the theme and the notoriaty as do many of the major strip casinos, it is an excellent value. The staff are courteous, the restaurants very good, and the gambling is very affordable. As far as the downtown area in general, I stay there approximately 1/2 of the time that I am in Las Vegas. You get a lot more bang for you buck and can easily walk from joint to joint without wearing holes in your shoes. Try it the next time you are in Vegas for a quick weekend. I think you'll find it very enjoyable. Pros: Good Value, Customer Service, Good Restaurants more

Mullets galore 5/16/2002

Not the highest class place on the Strip, but it sure is fun! Pure kitsch, free bingo with stay and motel parking right in front of your room. The pool is in the parking lot, and the Nugget is right next door to Slots of Fun for all of my fellow nickel addicts. Pros: cheap Cons: smokey, small rooms more
