Not so good Curry, Great Tom Yum Goon 2/17/2008

Thia is one of my favorites. I was disappointed with the Golden Room's Green Curry Chicken. Actually it was the worst I have ever had. It was way too watery and too much coconut milk, and not enough curry. The Tom Yun Goon was fantastic thogh, but they could still stant to use higher quality mushrooms. For the price you pay here, I think it's not worth it at all. Especially if you like the curry dish. more

consistently good 10/12/2007

Yeah I am partial since I just bought a house a few blocks away, but this place has consistently good food and service. The waitstaff is always friendly and speaks fluent Thai to give it that authentic Thai feel. Dishes can be spicy to my delight and the Thai Ice Tea is always tasty. It is a nice neighborhood restaurant for the Montrose. Pros: food, service, location more

Wonderful red curry shrimp! 7/24/2007

The food and charming dining room are top notch. I had their lunch special of perfectly spiced red curry sauce with the largest, tenderest shrimp I've ever had. The rice came out in the shape of Texas which was a very nice touch. The red curry sauce is an addictive blend of spices and... just thinking about it, I'm going back for lunch today! Service is warm and very attentive and the dining room beautifully appointed. They've been serving thai in Houston for over 25 years now for a reason! Love this place. Pros: Wonderful Thai cuisine and atmosphere more

Intimate, Peaceful, Consistently Wonderful 4/20/2007

Love this place- have been dining in and doing delivery with them for five years- at least 2x's a month. It is not cheap by Houston standards- but the quality is amazing- flavors always as Thai should be. Really a ""golden"" find! Pros: Ambience, Food taste and quality Cons: cost more

I'm telling everyone about this spot! 2/1/2007

I've been on the prowl for excellent Thai food since my recent return from that fabulous country, and this is the spot. Ironically I'd been to this sweet & cozy spot years ago and remembered the meal as great, but I just had to shop around now that I'm back in Houston. Several sad attempts led me back to Golden Room and I""m absolutely delighted to rediscover it. Lunch today: yummy Tom Ka-Gai soup, delicious Red Curry Chicken, amazing Spicy Mint Chicken & better Pad Thai than I've anywhere else here in Houston. God, did I eat all that? Yes! and more - not yet on the menu, but definitely the best homemade thai coffee and tea ice-cream! (Okay, my sister shared,,, and we brought some home) The staff was so wonderful - attentive, friendly and just plain delightful hosts to a wonderful meal. I'm already planning to put a group together for a return dinner. You should come - they even serve Sing ha beer. Enjoy! more

Best Thai Restaurant in Houston 11/29/2006

I've been eating at the Golden Room for over 15 years and it is hands down the best Thai food in Houston. From their pad thai, red curry, garlic beef and soups; unbelievable! The service is great and prices and ambience untouchable. My wife and I eat there at least 3 times a month and enjoy our self's each and every time.\r It's a must try, for Thai food lovers! Pros: Food and service Cons: couldn't say? more

terrible 7/19/2006

Just gave this place a try since it was down the street. Nastiest phad thai I can remember - can't wait until tomorrow when the taste is finally gone (tried brushing my teeth to no avail). Avoid.\r \r Cons: bad food more

Bad Enough to get a Citysearch ID 10/11/2004

This place is expensive. For the quality food and the portion size, we found Golden Room Restaurant entirely overpriced. We ordered the chicken musman curry which was $16...and came with less than a chicken breast half. The spring rolls were ancient, and small. The only semidecent item was the soup although the chicken in it had a freezer-burned taste. Pros: No Wait, Staff is Courteous Cons: , Portions Tiny, Food Quality is Low more

OK Service - Poor Food 5/19/2004

We were the only ones in the place...that should have been our first sign. The Spring Rolls were OK but small. The Pad Thai was HORRIBLE. It was extremely oily, the noodles had a strange PINK color to them and had no flavor. It lacked chopped peanuts and the bean sprouts were soggy. Diet Cokes were served in VERY small glasses and no matter how loudly we slurped to signal that we were ready for another...we never got it. I will never go back again and will stick with Thai Cottage in the Greenway Plaza area..One word - BLECH! Cons: , Soggy, Tasteless more

A Great Place!! 3/7/2004

I love this restaurant -- great food, staff, and atmosphere! It has just been totally remodeled and it is beautiful. I will definitely come again. I don't get the previous review -- just because thai food is delivered quickly does not mean it was precooked! (That reviewer doesn't know much about thai cooking I guess.) Anyway, try the Golden Room, you will love it! Pros: Food, Staff, Ambience more

Terrible value for the money 11/8/2003

Service was prompt, friendly, and efficient. The food, however, was served too fast (within two minutes), so you KNOW it was pre-made and sitting on warmers waiting to be plated. The Pad Thai with chicken I had was too oily, though with little visible peanut sauce for a good flavor. Thai iced tea comes in small slightly-larger-than-wine glasses, and each is $2.25. I antipated free refills or at least one large glass for that price. The Pad Thai I'm used to paying in Chicago no more than $7 was also nearly $9 here. Little value for the money. A nice ambience at best. Not recommended for a return visit. more

Good food / good value 8/25/2003

Food tasted very well and has the real Thai flavors to it. It is defenitely a place we would go back more

Intimate Setting/Great Food 1/9/2003

Pulling up to the Golden Room you immediately recognize you're about to experience something unique. The quaint red building certainly draws the eyes. The dining room is quiet and perfect for a romantic dinner or small groups. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and diligent. We've eaten at the Golden Room numerous times and have not had a bad meal or experience. Pros: Intimate dining, Wonderful food Cons: I always eat too much more

$2.00 for 1oz peanut sauce 12/13/2002

The Golden room has great prices and good size individual servings. Parking is difficult, as there are about 10 spaces available. The atmosphere was nice, but the Pad- thai was at best avearge. Nit Noi has nothing to envy from the Golden Room. Did I mention that an extra ounce (literally) is $2.00???? more

OMIGOD! 10/12/2002

This food is GRRRRRRRRRRREAT! I've never had anything I didn't like there. If you love Thai food, this is THE place to go. A bit pricy compared to others, but believe me, it's well worth it. The atmosphere is cozy, and the service is also great. Great first date place. Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: Price more
