Go Mama Go

This shop is a welcome addition to the new U Street corridor. While I've never purchased any atrwork from them, they're just about the only place in the neighborhood where you can buy their eclectic dinnerware patterns. They are also very supportive of the community and the various gay causes the owners become involved with. more

Go Mama Go is a funky and cheerful store. As you walk in, you're immediately drawn in with the bright displays and lighting. There's so many cool and unique gifts from around the world. The owner, Noi, is affectionately called Mama by both employees and shoppers. The gifts are all so unique and most of it will not be found elsewhere. You can get all sorts of things including dishes, artwork, handbags, notebooks, vases, stationary, chopsticks, and more. It's just a fun place to be in. The employees are so wonderful and helpful and Mama is usually there. She's a character and it's worth it to just go and visit her. Mama is involved with the community and an acitivist, supporting many nonprofits. So it's about time to go check out Mama's store! more

Going into this store is like entering a bazaar - but much better organized! The large shop carries silk wraps, lots of glazed Asian dishes, plus crafts from across the world, many with recycled or reimagined components. I've seen bowls made from traffic signal glass, woven telephone wire bowls from Africa, circuit board lamps, and soda can mobiles. They also have great metalwork (mirrors and statuary) and art on the wall, plus a selection of giftwrap, cards, and journals. It's a great place to buy a gift for friends who appreciate gifts with international flavor, or for yourself (cheaper than airfare!) more

This place has some of the most interesting items you'll ever find for the home. The goods come from all over the world, and all are of high quality. It's great for someone living in DC that's looking to spruce up their apartment, but it's also worth checking out if you're in DC on vacation and are looking for interesting things for the home. Everything from lamps to dinnerware to tables to candles to cards. The owner has clearly done his / her homework. more
