In the end, a well-fitting dress 4/21/2008

I had Gloria make alterations to a bridesmaid dress for me that needed to be taken in a lot at the top. Overall I'd say I was very pleased with the end result, even though it took a few tries to get there. It's a good idea to call Gloria before you stop in to check on the alterations, as I stopped in 3 times when she said she'd have my dress done, but all 3 times she didn't have it done. Luckily I lived only a few blocks away so it wasn't that big of a deal, but I could see it being frustrating for someone who has to travel to get there. To her credit, I believe she had a death in the family during the time I needed to have my dress worked on, so she was a little behind due to things with that situation. In the end, the dress was perfect and I plan on taking my next bridesmaid dress to her for alterations. Pros: Convenient Center City location, knowledgeable Cons: Alterations not necessarily done when promised more

Worst alterating job I ever recieved. 6/26/2007

Gloria and her husband seemed to be nice people, but she messed up my and my husband's sleeves in our newly purchased suits. In addition, our pants' hems were all crinkled! We paid $50 for our hem and sleeve alteration, of which I do not think Gloria did $50-worth of a job. Pros: Quick Cons: Poor job more

Qualified and good at what she does 2/19/2007

Gloria is very good at what she does. She will not try to change your mind, but work with you and make suggestions. I recommend you give her a concrete date you want the dress and call to check in a week prior. She speaks English but you will want to make sure there was no communication breakdown. Her shop is very familiar, people sitting who all know eachother and are very welcoming. I was a little worried about having someone work on my dress, thinking it would be such a small job, but I believe she would do anything you needed done. You don't have to deal with snotty salesgirls or any of that- she is no nonsense. She can also be flexible with times for you to come which is nice. Pros: Flexible and she knows what she's doing, you can trust her. Cons: She's a little old school, so you'll want to check in to make sure everything is on schedule. more

Skilled alterations done quickly 7/25/2006

I brought in a way-too-big bridesmaids dress and Gloria knew exactly what to do to make it fit. I'd found her name on Citysearch and thought, what the heck - if she knows how to make a dress she can probably alter one too. I was right. The dress was ready about a week after I brought it in and had undergone major alterations in three areas for $65. Check her out. Cons: Call ahead -- I walked 10 blocks to learn "Gloria not here. Come back in an hour." more
