I took art lessons here from ages 6 - 12-ish, and it was really great. Sometimes public school can be very restrictive about allowing students to express themselves, so I enjoyed having teachers that gave me challenging, age-appropriate lessons and talked to me like I was an adult-in-training rather than a kid they had to babysit. It was fun having field trips to the MFAH.
These classes would be a really good supplement for kids who attend a public school with a less-than-stellar art program. I don't know if a kid who's fortunate enough to attend a private school, or a public school with a well-supported art department, would need these classes. Either way, I remember that I always had tons of fun and I still have some of the goofy sculptures and drawings I made with friends.
I'm going to be returning this fall hopefully for adult art lessons so I can continue studying art part-time in a structured environment.
