It's a shame I have to give this place only two stars, because the food really is tasty. I simply cannot condone the prices. Two pizza's should not cost over forty seven dollars...

Their food was great. I was there with my kids and we all enjoyed our meals and had a great time. My daughter and I had the lasagna which was on ... more

Editorial review from Citysearch 6/26/2013

My boss decided to go to Guiseppe's today to grab us some salads. I'm pretty disappointed that I didn't even get to enjoy it. Thankfully I only got the 1/2 size. It was iceburg lettuce with cheese and black olives and a COLD cut-up leftover piece of chicken on top. While the $7 or $8 isn't a big deal, a salad is as basic as it gets. I will not be ordering anything more from this restaurant. Portland has so many more eateries to offer so much better. more

I've been a customer there for years, 5/14/2012

I've been a customer there for years, but will never return. Service was horrible and that was the owner. Absolutely rude! more

A fall from grace. The staff are 1/14/2012

A fall from grace. The staff are basically children. It is hit or miss with the service, and more often than not a total miss. Come in with a group of 8 and they will serve you well expecting a colossal tip. Typical kid-logic. The food isn't even good anymore. They add too much oil to everything, but in America that sells. It just isn't good cuisine. more

Bad Service - Rude 6/20/2011

DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!! POOR SERVICE!! Tried to go here on Sat night to celebrate my me and boyfriends birthdays.... We were told to have a seat to wait while they cleared off some tables. While we were waiting, a party of 2 came in with no reservation, and they were seated right away. Then a party of 4 came in with no reservation and were also seated right away, while we were still waiting to be seated. \r \r Both the host and hostess were aware that we were waiting to be seated but did nothing. I then asked to speak to the manager, who when I explained what happened, the first words out of his mouth were, ""well how many are you?"" Instead of an apology right away. I said there are only 2 of us, but we werent going to be staying there after being treated the way we were. \r \r The manager did a very poor job of expressing his concern for the poor service, and hardly managed to blurt out an apology to us on our way out. WILL NOT BE GOING HERE AGAIN!! WILL TELL ANYONE WHO ASKS TO STAY AWAY!! more

Worst chicken picata ever 6/13/2011

My wife and I went out for diner this evening and wanted to try something new. This place was awful, the minestrone soup was the worse I have ever had as was the chicken picata. I will never eat here again. Beware you have been warned. more

Great Italian at a Great Value! 11/30/2010

Love the place. Food is terrific at a great price. Pizza is the best in town. Can't beat the service, always friendly and fast. Joe and Linda (owners) are usually on the premises and are always friendly and make you feel like you are part of this family operation. Would highly recommend. No need to plan dinner the next day as you will always have leftovers to take home due to the large portions. The complimentary antipasto is a great touch and always fresh. Go for lunch or dinner, it's always delicious. more

Excellent Italian 11/20/2010

Guiseppe's is a great Italian restaurant. Their food is truly excellent and their service matches. They do not skimp on cheese and meats on their pizzas. Also, when they say that their ""small"" pizza feeds 3-4 people, they aren't joking. Expect leftovers. more

Awesome Food, but at a STAGGERING Price! 2/26/2010

It's a shame I have to give this place only two stars, because the food really is tasty. I simply cannot condone the prices. Two pizza's should not cost over forty seven dollars, plain and simple. It isn't as if they're putting truffles in the sauce or gold flakes in the dough. It's pizza... at a completely ridiculous price. Oddly enough the main menu food item prices are a tiny bit more reasonable, but still leagues above what they should be.\r Sadly, we won't be going back. Flying Pie's the way to go for us from now on. Even better ""boutique"" pies at a much more reasonable price. Pros: Great pizza and food... Cons: But not great enough to spend a fortune! more

Fresh Italian food reasonabley priced 9/18/2009

I had veal parmigianna yesterday for lunch at Giuseppe's, one of the few decent restaurants in the east Portland/Gresham area. It was great and it is one of my favorite dishes at Giuseppe's, always fresh, always cheesy, always consistent, great tasting veal. I have been eating at Giuseppe's since it opened (I think back in 86). I am American born and of Italian decent, having the privilege of visiting Italy only once. The reason I mention this is because I get a kick out of reading some of the reviews on this page challenging the Italian authenticity of some of Giuseppe's dishes. I grew up learning that there are at least 13 different dialects spoken throughout Italy’s multitude of provinces/regions from Calabrese to Milanese, each varying in culture and menu. I highly recommend Giuseppe's for good food and a fun time. Along with the veal I especially enjoy the lasagna, spaghetti carbonara and chicken fettuccini Giuseppe's. Pros: large portions, good selection, GREAT PIZZA Cons: can get very busy on weekends (call ahead) more

Great food, Service and wonderful atmosphere! 9/7/2009

My husband and I don't get the chance to eat out much in that we have a small child so when we do it is a very special event. We went to giuseppes on a Friday night and even though they were extremely busy we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. We waited in the bar and order drinks. I ordered a glass of red wine, my husband had a jack and coke. The bartender (tall guy with tattoos) was very attentive and effcient. He made us both laugh with some small talk and pointed at a empty table for us to sit at. He told a waitress to come right over and help us. The waitress (a short hair girl I think her name was Emily) was as sweet as could be and when she found out thet we were on a ""date"" away from our child she went out of her way to make it special for us. She reccommended a wonderful pizza for us to share, we loved it. Anyway it was a lovely dining experience with great food and service in such a fun atmosphere. We will definetly be making this restaurant our regular ""date"" place, hopefully with the same bartender and the same waitress. We enjoyed it immensely. Pros: Great service, good strong drinks and best pizza around. Cons: Not the greatest part in town. more

Guiseppe's Italian Restaurant is great! 8/8/2009

Awsome food! I love the fact that my family can go there and my hubby can get pizza and I can get salad and pasta and the food is good! Can be a little pricey but still well worth the little extra money! more

Love this place 5/10/2009

My friends and I have been going to Guisepps Lounge at least twice a month for almost a year.... The staff knows and remembers us and we always have a great experience. Chocolate martini taste great and looks cool. Pros: Great service more

Bad service!""bartenders"" 5/2/2009

I went to Guiseppes with my wife. the bartender totally ignored us. we sat at the bar and tried to order a drink. It was a slow night. I think his name was Travis...He seemed to have more interest in his friends , and from what I could tell his drunk girlfriend just sat there and downed coors lights.. My wife and I have been in this business for 30 plus years. She noticed that when customers would pay their tabs, he would take the money and put it off to the side.. later he would throw the cash in his tip jar. ""Located underneath the beer taps!"" In my mind , It's not cool to rip the people off that your working for.Needless to say we finally got some service from a server in the bar that realized we were being ignored. She was cool! She explained to us that this place was not operated very smoothly. She hesitated for a moment and noticed the owner walking in:Joe My wife noticed that he sat there and took up table space and downed crown royal .. Although his wife seemed nice, her husband completely ignored her! What a clown..Thinking about our experience my wife and I decided to go elsewhere come on man!!! restaurants are all about service.. apparently this place does not care! Pros: very polite bar servers. Cons: Bartender rude! more

friend of garbanzo 4/12/2009

I am a friend of garbanzo. I don't have a computer so I borrowed his. I ate at this restaurant for the first time. I ate in the lounge as I enjoy not having children around when trying to relax. Although garbanzo did not reccomned it some of my fellow employees said it used to be good when they went there. They moved to the south of town and have not been for a while. WELL, it was awful. The salad was brown around the edges. Obviously pakaged and old. The lasagna tasted like, I can't even discribe, but definatley not real Italian lasagna, awful! My friends sphagetti and meatballs--the meatballs were still frozen. It took forever to get drinks and the bar was not busy. I can see why it was not busy. Not just the economy but the terrible food and service. Prices are extremely high and the food it not good at all. I can see why my current friend said no. Not recommended at all folks. I will for surely seek out an authentic Italian restaurant. I f anyone has any ideas in the east side area let me know. Thanks Pros: non smoking Cons: terrible more

Good italian food 2/3/2009

My husband and I finally tried this restaurant, I had been told by co- workers how good it was. The food was good and the portions were very large. The atmosphere is very nice also. more

Going downhill 9/27/2008

I have been going to Giuseppes for over 16 years, and up until a year ago, usually enjoyed the food, service, etc. BUT the staff has become quite rude, and I've been treated as an annoyance the last few times there. Snotty attitude from the teenybopper hostess' and the bartender ignored us while serving 'off work' employees/friends just as the last poster described. Very unprofessional- we left after waiting 12 minutes for ANYONE to greet us, tell us they'd be back, let alone take our order. Meanwhile the staff yukking it up at the bar. The tattooed waitress is a relative and acts like it.\r Great drinks/great main dishes/ LOUSY BAG salad with NO TOMATOES! My god.\r Loved the remodel, but get back to great service, treating your customers like you used to.\r I never thought I'd pick Olive Garden over Guisippes, but it's better in every way.\r Thanks for reading! more

Not a place to call home about 9/7/2008

We visited the Giusepee lounge on August22 with friends we had not seen for a while. It was reommended by co-workers for the fabulous drinks. They were right, the drinks were fabulous, strong but not cheap. But worth the money. The service, not great but OK. The food---not good at all. Talk about cholesterol rush. They obviously use very cheap cheese because it was nothing but grease on the lasagna. The taste was not good either. My girlfriend had chicken fettucine. It was good when first brought out hot but as it cooled--fastly--it became gummy and curdled. Our friends got a small pizza. Small was quite large--impressive-- but they said the crust by not cooked and was gummy. The prices---way too much for the quality. I do NOT reccomend the food but I do the drinks--if you want to pay the price. We may be back for a drink or 2 but not the food. Go to Olive Garden and you wil not be disappointed. Pros: strong drinks-a bit spendy Cons: terrible quality of the food. Too expensive. more
