First visit resulted in asking for a well done burger, and 20 minutes later when it was delivered to the table, one bite showed the bright red meat inside - completely raw. Everyone has an off night, so a second chance resulted with a burger with absolutely no taste. The onion rings were like shoe leather, clearly had sat in the oil for way too long. I don't know how they could even bring that to the table. The sweet potato fries were good, however even Burger King can get those right, so it doesn't overcome all the negative experiences. more

I travel constantly and popped over from the embassy suites next door. Best blue cheese burger and sweet potato fries I have ever had! May come back for a salad for dinner. more

We went with a group to dinner there. Most of us had hamburgers. I had the Brie Burger which was an 8 oz burger with brie cheese and topped with a mound of onion rings (strings). The burger was thick, juicy, and delicious. I had never had a brie cheeseburger before but it was great. We went back two days later and I had the same thing. I wish we had a Gilbert's here. It was great. more

I have been a costumer since this place opened and go back year after year. First off the family is amazing that owns it, Richard, Beth, and Mr./ Mrs. Gilbert really make you feel special when you come in whether it be your first time or 100th. Food is well priced and the portions are great. Atmosphere is friendly, modern, and open. I really can't say enough good things about this place. If something is wrong with your order they not only correct it but do anything they can to help make the experience better. (Not that there has ever been anything wrong) more

When going on my recent cruise, I was looking for a place to eat in Fort Lauderdale since we'd be staying there the day before and the day after. Gilbert's was the place I chose and I have no regrets. My mom and I immediately recognized the owner from her website. She was extremely friendly. This isn't a chain restaurant and you can tell. At Gilbert's they care about their customers and not just the profit. I had the most amazing sweet potato fries. They are hands down the best I have ever tried. If I could've packed some to go, I would have. I also had the most amazing grilled salmon. It was so good, I barely used any of the dill sauce that came with it. Now let's talk about the desserts. Homemade smores type cookies. Huge, with chocolate, marshmallows, brown sugar and walnuts or pecans (can't recall). They were soooooo good. I am going to try and make some for my son. If I am ever lucky enough to travel to Lauderdale again, I will be eating at Gilbert's as much as I can. You NEED to stop there. more

I grew up in South Florida and have burgers from pretty much everywhere that serves "the best burgers in town". Some were great...some, not so much. Gilbert's, my dear friends, is in a league unto itself. My first visit, I had the brie burger - a truly rich and delicious sandwich and one of their original creations. This time the darling owner recommended the Portobello Mushroom with grilled vegetables and balsamic mayo. Oh, let me tell you...it was divine! Each individual layer of veg was grilled on it's own, giving it a smokey flavor that permeated every bite and then topped with crisp and salty fried onions. Sigh..... Okay, I'm better now.\r \r The atmosphere in this place is definitely casual and relaxed. This is a family business and they do nothing less than make you feel like you're part of that family. I will definitely be going back, and really can't wait to discover what else is amazing on their menu! more

Fantastic place. What Five Guys can only dream of being. Awesome food, great desserts and service to die for. Bad review people would probably complain in heaven that it was too bright or too clean. They ought to just keep going to McDonalds. more

From beggining to end total satisfaction! The moment I walked in around noon I was greeted by the owner who handed me a menu. Being my first time there I was already impressed with the layout and the atmosphere. Now the good part! I ordered a BBQ BACON CHEESEBURGER, and I don't believe I've had a better burger. No Letub doesn't compare! The burger was cooked to perfection and the fries were perfect! The owner even recognized me from poker games at the casinos. This place is incredible. more

I heard alot about Gilbert's before trying it...and I have to say its ABSOLUTLEY one of the best burgers in S. Fl. I had the bbq bacon burger and all of the burgers are Angus Beef, 8oz. and cooked PERFECTLY!! I was very full off of the burger alone and the fries tastes great as well. If you like LeTub or 5 Guys...you will LOVE Gilbert's 17th Street Grill. It is a MUST TRY!!! Happy Eats! more

Editorial review from Urbanspoon 8/19/2011

burgers were fairly good--but took 2 tries to get it right. Most lacking is their fries. Soggy, soggy, soggy. We requested them REALLY crisp, and the owner/manager promised to supervise--but, still soggy, soggy, soggy. I'd rate the place as just fair. No need to rush on over. more
