crabby mean staff have ruined the place. Get rid of them! 6/2/2011

Agreeing with the comment below, there are two specific guys that work there - so rude, so mean - and they treat you like you're bothering them when you try and make conversation. I used to go regularly, and the old staff was so nice, but I recently got fed up being made to feel like I was bothering them by being there, and by being snapped at when asking a question, that I have stopped going and lost all interest in returning. Although, I heard there will be new ownership! If the Mean Twins (long-haired jerk, and his short-haired jerk companion) are fired, then I'll return! (And, as long as they don't throw trash in my half-eaten food when I turn away for a second, and then do nothing but glare when I tell them I had been planning on eating the other half of my sandwich... then I will risk getting food again!) more

Used to like going there... 2/2/2011

I live in the area, and would occasionally stop in, grab a coffee to go or just hang out and read the paper or bring the laptop. It has always been a cozy, nice place to go with nice employees....until the last 6 months at least? I've recently been going there sometimes usaully around daytime, midweek, and there is that one guy(semi-long hair with a ponytail and sideburns. Honestly I've never seen a coffee/bakery worker act sooo tough and rude. When somebody makes YOU feel uncomfortable for coming into a what used to be a friendly business, that's where giving them my business(let alone money in their tip jar)ends. I thought the 1st time the guy might have just been having a bad day, so I ignored it. Came there a few weeks later only to find the guy a whole lot worse. Totally unfriendly, looking at his cell phone, and slamming drawers around, like the ""unique"" tough guy he is, sorry for the other actual nice people that DO work there, but as long as ""Eddie Vedder"" is still working there, I will not be back. more

Nothing family friendly about it (anymore) 1/15/2009

We've been going to Gigi's off and on since they opened, and it used to be a favorite place to take the family for good food at a reasonable price, with little wait. I've just sworn off the restaurant entirely. There's nothing family friendly about your 4 year old waiting 45 minutes for 1 order of grilled cheese, and two other items that only needed to be reheated. It's a deli case, for crying out loud, why does it take them so long to reheat the food?\r \r When they turned down the lights at night, expanded the bar, and changed the menu, I guess they were trying to say, 'no kids.' So we got the message. It's too bad, we used to love the place.\r Pros: location is good, not a lot of good deli-style restaurants in the neighborhood Cons: very slow service, dim lighting more

New pizza crust had got to go. 12/19/2008

We have been going to Gigi's for the Wednesday night pizza deal for years, but after this week, I don't know if we'll go back. Apparently they changed their bread supplier to the New French Bakery, and the change has caused their pizza crusts to shrink 2 inches (for only $1 less!) and become greasy and soggy. I used to love this place, but it's just getting sad and disappointing. What's going on? Pros: ambience Cons: always changing the things that work to things that don't more

Not as good as magazine reviews indicate 9/13/2008

We visited this restaurant on Saturday morning based on some good magazine reviews but left somewhat disappointed. The coffee was quite good but the baked goods were for the most part, sub-standard. We had the New York muffin (which was the best of the bunch), a banana cream cheese bar and a blueberry cheesecake bar. The banana bar was too dry (two days old?), was chintzy on cream cheese frosting, and the slice of banana on top was not fresh, but hard! The blueberry cream cheese bar was also definitely not made that day and no better than grocery store shelf quality (didn't finish eating it). We'll probably give them one more shot for their breakfasts, but if they don't come through, we probably won't be back. Pros: relaxed atmosphere, good coffee Cons: some baked goods not fresh, a bit pricey for the quality more

I will tell you why 7/9/2008

Gigi's has been dissapointing lately, beacause...For starters I have worked there a while and have recently quit a month or two ago. I noticed that customers have been very upset for many reasons and the staff has been as well. Upper management has been making poor decisions regarding hours, staff, prices, and food preparation. Management commands one thing and then changes it completely the next day. The staff is responsible for counter help, doing dishes, microwaving the food( Yes microwaving the food!) while being paid $8/hr. Having all these responsibilities takes time away from providing great service because we are too busy microwaving your food and doing dishes. The tips are awful because no one thinks that we are doing anything besides taking your order! Plus we have to split the tips between everyone who is working that night! The change in hours and the higher prices in microwaved food hurts our tips and dismays us from going above and beyond. And on top of this overloaded workload, management has everyone on completely didfferent pages and they don't even bother to help! Not only has it gone downhill for the customers, it has been a downward slope for the employees as well. Pros: Hardworking Staff Cons: Everything else more

Something Very Bad Has Happened!!!! 6/3/2008

Beware! gigi's has turned into a real disappointment lately. Gone are all the delicious desserts and friendly staff, replaced by overpriced bland food and snippy counter help. I agree with the last two reviews, this is just not the same place. I too got the wrong order brought to my table and then it took 15 minutes to get it replaced!!!!! My friends were all done eating! What Happened?!?!?! Pros: I don't have to go back Cons: my whole experience more

Wrong Take Out Order - I agree with one of your previous customer reviews. 5/23/2008

I stopped by to order a sandwich to go. When I arrived at work with just a few minutes left to eat my lunch, the sandwich I ordered was wrong. I tried calling Gigi the day after and tried calling today again and the mail box says it's full. There is no one to call and no email address listed on their website.\r \r To have the food wrong and not have a phone number to call and report it - is outrageous. Pros: Ambience Cons: Service and cost more

shame 5/14/2008

I spent my summer of 2007 at Gigi's, they had the best talapia taco's and grilled cheese sandwich in town. Since I visit a relative at Walker Methodist it was convenient and inexpensive. However every time I placed an order 'to go"" I did not reveive what I paid for. I did not mind it at first but it became a routine. I cannot believe that a bistro that claims to be so trendy can be so cheap ! There are 10000000 bistro's in MSP and whether you care or not Ms. Gigi, I will never step foot in your bistro again. what a shame ! more

Not the same old gigi's 5/12/2008

I used to brag to my friends about ""my neighborhood cafe"" but my last couple of trips to gigi's have been terrible. The food has become bland AND more expensive and the bakery bars that we ordered were stale. They seem to have new staff AGAIN and the woman helping me couldn't tell me anything about the wine list. I know I sound like some crab, but this place used to be really great and has gone downhill fast. If you are in the neighborhood I guess you should be happy to have somewhere to go, but i certainly wouldn't go out of my way to pay so much for such tasteless food. Pros: they stopped changing there hours all of the time Cons: the food, the service and the price! more

Great Food and Nice People 5/7/2008

My husband and I visited Giggi's for lunch the first time a few weeks ago - I am sorry it took us so long to go! I had an egg salad sandwich and broccoli soup - both were delicious. My husband had the enchilada casserole (veg) and LOVED it. The staff was pleasant and attentive, the atmosphere was relaxing and nice, the food was yummy. I will be bringing my mother to Gigi's this weekend - I know she will love it! Pros: Great food, friendly staff, vegetarian options Cons: Parking more

Ooops 4/15/2008

After reading all of the great reviews I took my two kids with me to gigi's last weekend. I was really underwhelmed. The staff was friendly but the food was bland and overpriced. I had an egg tart that was soggy and flavorless and my children shared a pasta salad with overcooked noodles. We all shared a chocolate chip cookie that was nothing to get excited about. It's a cute place but we were very disappointed with the food. Pros: Cute neighborhood Cons: Overpriced and bland more

Delicious and quick! 8/12/2007

Gigi's cafe has the best bread and North African Chicken Stew~! My friend took me there for lunch on my Birthday and the service was prompt, and I have found a new favorite soup! It was so flavorful, curry, chunks of chicken and tomatoes in the most heavely broth. The bread was the perfect compliment to this meal. I work right down the street and I tell everyone to go there, I am just that thrilled with with the food and the staff! more

A sweet neighborhood cafe. 7/10/2007

I have loved Gigi's since I moved into the neighborhood. They make a wonderful selection daily selection of organic dishes including salads, quiches, fabulous soups, sandwiches and some amazing dessert items i.e. pastry, brownies.\r \r The know how to make a good cafe con miel (which most coffee shops do not) and they have a large selection of wines by the glass and a nice beer selection as well.\r \r The dining room is pretty large with internet hookups and the other side is more like a romantic wine bar and there is plenty of outdoor seating on 36th avenue with some shade available and good people watching;a nice neighborhood hardware store next door as well.\r \r They are very recycle and re-use conscious, so an earth friendly choice as well. It's a great place for families, definitely for singles, and a nice date place. It's a hangout for bikers both motor and non, joggers, walkers and everyone in between. It appeals to all of the diversity of the neighborhood and it's nice to see the wide array of people that live in that area. I wish there were many more such as this in our neighborhood(s)\r \r The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, but often very slow - esp if it's busy, so you need patience. If you're in a hurry, don't expect to get in and out quick with your morning coffee on the weekend. I\r f you have some time to spare, hang out for a while with your neighbors and enjoy. Pros: Food, coffee, wine and beer list. Cons: Slow more

Gem of a place!! 4/18/2007

I LOVE Gigi's! The staff is warm and friendly. The food is superb with a great selection of wines and beers. And of course their desserts are scrumptous. Most nights of the week they offer a dinner special. I often go there on Wednesday's with friends because they offer a pizza and bottle of wine for $20. And again, the staff is the best that can be found in the Cities. If you haven't tried this place you are missing out. Pros: warm, inviting atmosphere; wonderful food/desserts, great wine/beer selection Cons: can get a bit busy, it is a small place more

GREAT coffee, fantastic French toast, Baby friendly 3/1/2007

Gigi's is a great place to have in the neighborhood. It's got great coffee, friendly staff and divine baked goods. Not to mention all the deli items (the Spinach Walnut Burger is awesome!!) The atmosphere is very friendly, and now that I have a baby, I've been meeting with my ""Mom and Baby group"" every week because they have changing facilities in their CLEAN bathroom! I like going to Gigi's because the service is fast and the servers are all friendly. They have a really good beer and wine selection, which is surprising for a neighborhood cafe! All in all, we love going there just to hang out and chat, read a book or get a glass of wine. Oh and they have GREAT brownies and really good Iced Tea-Lemonade mix. You've got to check it out! Pros: Kid Friendly, Clean, Good Service, Great selection of food Cons: Parking limited in Lot, but you can find parking on street usually more
